Galaxy Nexus Battery Life

There is DEFFINITELY a bug that is causing bad battery life. I factory reset my phone last night, turned off all mobile data, nfc, touch sounds, screen lock sound, and removed all widgets. I didnt download any apps either. Im attaching a screenshot i took after i woke up today.
Something kept my phone awake two times while i was asleep.

Morning all. So I am confused, is it better to have wi-fi on, vs a good 3g signal, or not. What uses more battery, wi-fi or 3g/4g with a good signal. Keep it always on or not?

I left mine unplugged overnight to see the drain and it went from about 86 to 70%, with a total of 12 hours at 69% discharge. Pretty much just sitting there. So I will see how it goes with light use today. I have an extended battery for a couple of days and have done most of the tips listed on this thread.

Thank you guys for sharing all of your knowledge, it sure helps all of us newbies.

(coming from an Omnia II. This is my 1st android, so there is a learning curve)

I am struggling to get a screen shot, so here are the stats I got from the past day:

Wifi on the entire time. Set to 3G.

9% Discharging
23h 19m 11s on Battery
Screen - 41%
Android OS - 24%
Mediaserver - 9%
Phone Idle - 8%
Cell Standby - 7%
Android System - 4%
WiFi - 2%

Sent about 50 SMS, about 50 Gmails, some web browsing, Google +, Constant Twitter browsing, 3-4 hours of XM streaming while sleeping, 4 Foursquare check-ins, 3 start-to-finish Wordfeud games, about 20 minutes of Angry Birds.

My battery life experence yesterday. I have cycled my battery at least 7 times now.

6h 38 min. Most of the day I didn't use my phone much. Just after work I was playing on it a bit. Screen on time was 2h 13m with screen brightness set to 5% brightness.

I hope there is a fix for this soon. I might flash Android 4.0.3 from peteralfonso.com tonight to see how it fairs.

Very happy with my battery life now. Over 4 hours of screen on and usage! This phone negates my need for a tablet, I love web browsing on it. A huge improvement from my first device and this device for the first 3 days I had the phones. This is with CDMA only, mostly on wifi, Screen at 25% brightness (which is still bright), and heavy web surfing, youtube, mms, sms, market, etc.

So, I good test for me with battery life is to listen to music when I take ride my motorcycle to work, as in today.

In the past with my rooted Dinc, depending on the ROM I flashed and how well calibrated my extended battery was, after a 40 minute ride with the music on my battery level would go down a range of 10%-40% (very upsetting when it would go down by 40% or so in just 40 minutes).

Today, was the first time for me to gage my battery life with my test. I woke up and it was at 100% (made sure to unplug and replug in before I left the house to get it up to 100%). I sent some text this morning and checked email. Rode to work with my music, and I only lost 7% battery, level was reading 93%, still is after some email and text this morning at work.

I am very pleased. I have several business appointments today and will play music while I am out to see how it goes today.

Agree, this is important for me to. How much listening to music (locally) decharges the battery. I listen to 2-2.5 hours a day on my commute to and from work. At work its mostly facebook, email, twitter, web browsing every once in a while.

Screebl is an app that I need to find a replacement for b/c the dev hasn't issued an update in a while (and obviously one is needed for ICS), and it is a wonderful tool.

I'm a Screebl Pro owner and use(d) the program on my OD for as long as I can remember. I emailed the Dev of the app and he said he is working on a 4.0 version. he said it requires a complete rewrite so it is taking some time. You should email him and let him know your interested in an update. Might help if he knows Pro users are out there waiting for an update of this great app.

Something is not right here. I have the standard battery with 4G turned off, no bluetooth, no GPS, and a 3G signal ranging from -70 to -83 dBm all day from work to home. I had also fully charged and discharged 4 times and numerous other charges. Had the phone since day one.

Only two widgets, calendar and minimalistic text. No rogue apps running.

A few text messages, a 5 minute phone call, couple of quick google searches, and a few WordFeud entries. I'd say it was very light use and LOW screen brightness (About 10%).

Results were:

- 35% discharging
- Screen (47%, Time on 1h 39m)
- Android OS (26%, Keep awake 3h 27m)
- Phone idle (7%)

Essentially I used my phone for about 1 hour and 45 mins. Very, very dissapointed right now. Couldn't upload pics because work computer is outdated.

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue. My battery is draining WHILE CHARGING! I have the phone plugged into my computer and I see the battery draining while the screen is on. The only way it charges is if i have the screen OFF. This can't be ok. Is anyone else having this problem? A phone that is being charged losing its charged the moment the screen comes on??

I recall reading somewhere online (we all know everything on the internet is true) that though the Nexus can charge USB it does not charge while the screen is on, which would explain why you are experiencing this.

I know from reading that this is also the case for my ASUS Transformer, will charge USB from the computer but only when the screen is off.

Pretty much can't charge and use your phone at the same time, or have your cake and eat it too.

Is the charge indicator on, and say after 10 mins, you notice a reduction in the battery %?

Could be supplying sub .5A of current on that usb port.... enough to light up the charging circuit, but not enough keep enough power coming in vs being consumed.

Try a different cable or use a rear usb port.... or try a different computer. Just a few suggestions!

I use a powered usb hub at home, and I'm not sure how many amps it puts out but it appears to charge faster than the oem wall charger :D

Wow, this place is AMAZING! I didn't even think that it was possible. I changed USB cables and BOOM, it started powering up. Thanks for the tip. I was about to request time off to go to my friendly neighborhood Verizon store to request a replacement. Now I'll just go in and buy another USB cable.

Second day on the extended battery here.

1% discharging (yes, about to die!)
9h 41m on battery
Screen: 43%, Time on 2h 03m (brightness set to auto)
Andriod OS: 26%, Keep awake 4h 18m

I'm hoping Google will roll out an update that will make this thing more efficient. I love this phone, but I'm not real thrilled with the battery life so far.

Edit: ...and it just shut down!
