Help Text Messages Randomly Deleting

Has anyone experienced an issue on the Droid where the stock messaging service will randomly delete all of your threads? It has happened to me twice so far and it really bugs me... I like to keep the people I text most on my list and I like to be able to see past messages. If you have experiences this, is there another (maybe better) texting app that I could use to avoid this? I like how it lists my most recent messages and how it lists the threads so I really enjoy the stock SMS, but I really don't want to lose old messages randomly.

I also like that I can increase the cap to 5000 messages. Egregious!

Also, I am still getting some freeze up and restarts (maybe once a day max... or once every few days) and Pandora seems to crash if I let it play for extended periods of time. It will stop functioning but appear in the status bar and I need to kill it and re-start it to get rid of the icon. Anyone experiencing these things?

I've had this issue with my verizon Eris, it did it for the first time a few hours ago. I'm curious if it has anything to do with reaching a maximum number of texts and the phone running out of memory for them. Although I would expect more from google.

I'm planning on asking consulting verizon on the issue and probably switching to chompsms to avoid this problem in the future.

ugh I hope something is done about it. For now, I use wavesecure and back up my SMS every so often to make sure i have another option. But its good to know its happening on multiple phones and not just droid. Sigh, i hope someone figures this out soon.
