Help Why does Samsung Kies say that my device does not support software upgrading via kies?

I bought a Galaxy Ace. It initially came with:

  1. Gingerbread 2.3.3
  2. Build is GINGERBREAD.XWPKY, for regions France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, UK
  3. Unrooted

With that, let me add that I am from the Philippines. And I know that there's a 2.3.4 Asian ROM update (DXKPD) as per here: Have you updated your Samsung Galaxy phones to Gingerbread yet? | Pinoy Tech Blog - The Philippines' Longest-running Technology Blog

But Kies doesn't show any update. So I thought that Samsung has not released an update for that European region, and concluded that I might need to change it to my region. (Although my local carrier was able to send me GPRS settings while under this region).

So that's what I did. I used Odin on 2 attempts I did so far. I flashed it FIRST with a different region ROM (Germany, I think). SECOND time, I got it right. I now have 2.3.4 GINGERBREAD.DXKPD via Odin and using an OFFICIAL 2.3.4 Asian ROM from this page (mediafire link): New Stock ROM Android 2.3.4 S5830DXKPD | Rumah Android

Here's what troubles me.

  1. Regardless if there's an update or not, Samsung Kies tells me that I couldn't update my firmware even if it's an official ROM.
  2. I can't get GPRS settings now that the region's changed.

Finally, the questions:
  1. Is it possible that my phone is locked to that European region? Is there such a thing?
  2. Or did I use an unofficial ROM?
  3. What should I do next from here?

I'm sorry this is too long. I'm confused and I just need clarifications. I hope I made myself clear. Thanks in advance.

Samsung Kies is sometimes an ass.
You can't do much when it says you can't update.
The only thing you can actually do is to manually update via ODIN.

About your APN Settings, all it takes is a call to your operator and just ask the customer representative :)

1) It's not possible for a phone to be locked to a certain region, unless if you're talking about the S5830L or S5830B.
2) An unofficial ROM is KPH.
3) The only thing you can do is to use ODIN for updates next time.

Hey, thanks for the help. I got my APN settings now, thank you.

And I found out what's causing it. You know about CSCs? Mine was set to SMO, which is for Serbia. So I backed up my data, changed it to XTC (Philippines) via *#272*IMEI#, and that fixed it. Kies recognized my phone as having the latest firmware and 3g signals are being detected now. :)

The only problem that I think it resulted into is that I can't download anything from the Market. Even after I updated Market to 3.4.4 and cleared the cache, it always gives a -101 error. Any ideas? Thanks again.

hi d4ryl3.what was the problem with 3g?
i have problem with 3g.sometimes i don't have 3g,and i know that network is ok because it ok on other device.
i live in izrael but my rom is brasilian.may be i need to change csc?

Well, I couldn't get any 3g signals on my phone initially. But after reflashing my ROM and changing the CSC, it was able to receive 3g signals. Just be wary, changing the CSC will factory reset your phone. Google it for some tips.

And as of today, I'm still unable to download from the Market. Please help.

It's possible that you may need to change your ROM to your region.
Read about it here. Read everything it has to say, most importantly the preparations:

How To Install / Flash Firmware on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830

After you install your correct ROM, try the CSC method and see if you could change to your country.

Btw, I fixed my Market trouble. I did a factory reset. Then instead of restoring every backup, I only restored my personal apps and not the system data.
