Droid Incredible 3?

With all the people who got the Incredible when it originally came out switching from the Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus, Rezound, and other new phones, I was wondering if anyone who got the phone a few months after it came out, like me, was thinking about a Droid Incredible 3.

This phone has been rock solid for me and I love it, but in a few months my upgrade will be available and, if HTC keeps roughly the same release schedule as they have with the two previous Incredibles, the Droid Incredible 3 should be out around then. I know some people say the Rezound is the spirtual second successor to the Incredible, but I am hoping for a real one.

No real news or leaks have been posted about it yet, but it's still early, and I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts about this.

I can upgrade my Incredible by the end of the month. I really want a phone that has GSM (ie SIM card) capability so that I can use it in Germany. I prefer no physical keyboard.

Aside from the iPhone it seems only the Incredible 2 offers this. I prefer to stay with an Android phone (and probably Verizon as I have been generally happy with the service)

I've been very disappointed that all the new phones from Verizon are straight CDMA. Does anyone know if there's anything in the pipeline with GSM? I would be willing to wait a few months if that would get me a cutting-edge phone with GSM capability.

Droid 2 global is the only other one that I can think of off the top of my head. VZW website allows you to list phones by global capability.

I am right there with you on this. I am looking for a phone that has CDMA, global GSM, AND LTE. I want one that is similar in size to the Incredible and has better battery life. The first gen LTEs were all battery killers, and I think Rezound falls into that camp, unfortunately (IMHO).

I have been following Qualcomm and the Krait architecture (S4- MSM8960), and it seems likely that chip will be a winner for above requirements. It is dropping to the 28 nanometer size, will have all the radios above (so 2nd gen LTE, plus bluetooth, wifi, etc) all on the single system on a chip, so it should have much better battery life.

So far, it seems the only phone I have seen that might make this a reality soon is the HTC Ville, which seems like it claims to have the S4, but also talks about HSPA+ (there is a couple of flavors of S4 for that), so hopefully there will be two flavors, one for Verizon (MSM8960)...maybe it will be called the Incredible 3 (I doubt it though). It looks like it might come out around the right time frame, in April-ish.

Anyway, if others have anything else they are watching that fits this bill (CDMA, LTE, GSM, better battery life, not too large), please let me know.

Cheers

Was doing some reading on the HTC Ville as well... Keep the fingers crossed that HTC will make another 3.7" device for us folks that don't want those bigger phones.

I could live with the size of the Incredible 2 (4"), that is pretty good, especially when you think that is diagonal, and they dropped the optical pad, so it isn't THAT much wider...after that though, it is starting to get too big for me too.

I think for me 4" is the sweet-spot for *telephones* .. if I want something bigger I'll start looking at tablets :)

But I guess more choice is good, to each his/her own.

I would agree, I could deal with the Inc2... But bigger then that... ya, I would be looking at tablets also... It will be interesting to see what comes out next year. If nothing smaller, oh well, I am happy with my Inc..!!

agreed - size is starting to be the big issue for me. i also don't like the large devices. my inc is not going to last forever....

I honestly thought i would NEVER move to a bigger phone either, but here I am typing this on the huge galaxy nexus and it doesn't bother me a bit and now I actually prefer it. I couldn't imagine going back to smaller phone now. The larger screen makes everything easier and more enjoyable and, with the galaxy nexus, it doesn't feel any different in my pocket.

its really hard to avoid euphemisms in this thread

I just went back to my Dinc after several months with that horrendous piece of crap LG Revolution and I have to say, I am really digging the smaller size. I thought I would miss the 4.3" screen on the Revolution, but happily I couldn't care less. The Dinc is so superior in every important way to the Revo that I can't believe I ever tried to replace it for the bigger screen!

I've fallen in love with the Dinc all over again! I plan on keeping it until it dies. That said, I agree that 4" is probably the sweet spot, since the one thing that has always bugged me about the Dinc is the optical track pad and the waste of space that could have been screen.

I could deal with a slightly larger screen, but anything over 4.3" would be too large. I just want better specs and ICS on a similarly designed phone.

I also plan on getting the Transformer Prime tablet when it's back in stock and I have a little more money saved.

The 4.65 inch screen of the nexus (and future ICS devices) doesn't make the phone that much bigger than any 4.3 inch screen phone out because the the lack of physical hardware buttons.

But I have a feeling the incredible line of phones is done. There doesn't seem to be any leaks for any HTC phones that hint at an Inc3.

*crosses fingers*

Here's to hoping there is an Incredible 3.

I too am wondering about an Incredible 3. My Incredible 1 has served me well, and lived longer than usual for me, due to the hard slip case I got from Verizon. But,,, a slightly larger screen would be nice, as well as unlocked DSM capability when I travel. Currently have a separate, unlocked GSM phone for overseas. I've no need for 4G and the higher priced plans that requires.
Current Incredible 2 fits my needs, and being due for my 2 year replacement now, I might go for that soon when next I see a sale.
Would be really nice to know if an Incredible 3 is just around the corner and still fits all my desires. tho. If anything, if the specs would say 4G or no GSM, then I'd know to grab the Inc2 before they are sunset.

there is definitely no Inc 3 around the corner, if at all. There has been some specs leaked for a new HTC world phone though, but would probably be at least 3-6 months tills it sees the light of day.

4g costs the same as 3g, and if you currently have an. Verizon unlimited data plan you can keep it when you upgrade (and use 4g).

HTC 'World' Phone might be interesting. Just poking around after you mention it, I was seeing various specs. 'HTC World Phone' isn't a very product specific search term. Saw one that says a 3.8" due in Spring. but little else. That would be a step down from the current Incredible 2, it seems. The ref'ed HD video would be wasted on me as well. Also saw 4G mentioned, which I won't do as things sit now.
I'm in no rush, and can wait for the full specs and thus, the right phone. Inc1 is still doing fine. Guess I will have to wait n see.

....
Looks like vz changed the plans from when I signed up 2 years back. Currently have a family plan with unlimited data. Looks like they don't even offer than anymore, so wonder if I would grandfather in. ??? They used to have a difference between the 3G and 4G plans/options also, but don't see that offhand anymore. I would also be looking family plan again, since I get a discount thru my employer on that for all the family, so long as I am the primary.
Offhand looks like it would get pricier for me if signing into a new plan. May just be getting to the point that I say "heck with it" and have a basic phone..... or look at other carriers.

Your unlimited data stood be grandfathered.

Your unlimited data stood be grandfathered.

I think your unlimited plan is grandfathered until you get a phone from VZW with their discount. To give you the discount, they'll "renew" you for another 2-year plan, but it's not a really a renewal but a new plan. When you do that, they'll change you to the capped data package.

So, be careful when and how you upgrade your phone -- it may downgrade your plan. :-(

That won't happen; I just upgraded with a discount and still have my unlimited . Only really have to be careful when upgrading through a reseller if you are a former alltel customer.

If you upgrade through the Verizon website, through Verizon's phone ordering, or at a Verizon corporate store, you will retain your grandfathered data plan.

If you upgrade through Amazon, Lets Talk, Wirefly, or a Verizon authorized retailer/reseller who is NOT a corporate store, you will have to choose one of the tiered data plans.
