[Verizon] [ROM][CWM][LTE] ICL53F Deodexed Rooted Busyboxed + Softkeys + APM/AB MODS (12/17/2011)

Having enjoyed Fab's ROMs on my OG Droid I decided to christen my Gnex with this ROM...

I flashed as instructed, added the ABM/Power Menu Mod and Nova Launcher...everything seemed fine, but couldn't really tell I was on anything other than stock since my "About Phone" info looked like it did before I flashed...

Only problem I had was when I tried to turn off phone and put on charger...phone showed "charging battery" on black screen but device froze...only way to fix was to pull the battery. I then wiped cache & dalvik again, but it froze again once I powered off and put on charger...I then did a FULL data wipe and flashed just the ROM..no mods...turned off and put on charger and device froze again...finally charged it overnight while leaving it on...restored a backup and trying to figure out if I did something wrong...

Anyone else have anything similar happen? I've gotta be able to turn off and charge, so until I can find solution I've got to stay stock or go to another ROM...not what I wanted to do....:(

Hey guys just wanted to let you know I found a fix for the the charging freeze issue if you are on 4.0.2 still. The problem is located in the insecure boot.img that is located in this ROM. Flashing the original 4.0.2 boot.img fixed this issue promptly for me and should do likewise for you. I hope this helps.

Commands

* adb reboot-bootloader
* fastboot flash boot boot.img
* fastboot reboot
* Done!

First post so Hi Everyone.

Two things. One I checked the md5 on the rom and no matter how many times I download it is wrong. Second I tried flashing anyways assuming the md5 might not be updated but my phone just reboots to clockwork recovery. It never loads. Is anyone else seeing a similar issue? I always make backups so I just restored to my earlier backup.

Is anyone here running the 4.0.3 version yet? As a slightly stupid question, i assume that when you wipe the data anything stored on the "sdcard" will be saved much like it was on the old phones. Or was i misunderstanding and he meant to wipe the cache data?

Yes I've run his latest version it is nice and NFC is a go.

When you wipe data/factory reset and flash a new ROM, your virtual sdcard will remain intact. Nothing you do in CWM will delete anything on your sdcard (virtual) except if you go to mounts and storage and format sdcard.

If you are coming from his 4.0.2 ROM and want to flash his newest 4.0.3 he recommends wiping data and cache. Which to me, means: wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache (under advanced), and format system (under mounts and storage). That's what I did and what I'd do :)

I said I would post up my thoughts on this from and since I am going to make the switch to v2 I figure now is a good time. I have zero complaints. If I didn't know that I had flashed this then there would be no way to tell. The pre loaded Verizon garbage is gone. My battery life is great. I played with my phone all day and still had 50% battery life after 9 hours. Looking forward to v2. This is a great from and I recommend it to everyone who wants a stock feel that is solid and has some nice tweaks.

Awesome to hear this thx for the feedback! I ran v1 and it was just as smooth and stable as any of the others I've tried.

One thing i would love to see added to this rom and in fact all rom's would be to add the ability to create and submit a bug report. Granted alot of people probably couldn't write a bug report that was useful but I do it everyday. The worst part of being a software tester is that when you find something wrong with something you use not at work you really want to submit a bug report.

For those reading this I am not saying I am having any issues with this rom. So far it is still solid. Haven't had as much use with it today though so I will do a better update later. One suggestion is make sure if you download this rom CHECK THE MD5. I can't emphasize that enough. I had 4 bad downloads before I got a good one.

Alright I had more time to tinker finally. I still have no real complaints about this rom. It's exactly what I wanted. Basically stock with some tweaks. ICS to me is great out of the box and really only needs a few small enhancements. I am going to do this in a list format to make reading my findings a little easier.

PROS:
-Stable
-Basically stock
-Google search bar can be removed
-Long battery life (11hours with lots of usage and still 46%)
-Good Signal on data and phone
-Received and sent all text messages
-Camera works very well and autofocuses
-Screenshot is a great feature
-Built-in performance settings is great, if that's something you want
-Added widgets in notification drop down in a great feature
-Homescreen page indicator is asmall touch I like
-Facebook sync works (If you care)
-Removal of Verizon Garbage Apps is Awesome!
-Reboot added to power off menu is a feature I need to survive. Thanks for that.
-I have had zero FC issues thus far.

Cons:
-Homescreen drawing is not very smooth and seems slow
-Gallery drawing is not very smooth and seems slow
-Sometimes will not automatically capitalize letter I or the first letter of a sentence
-Camera focus and shutter could be faster (May just be a hardware issue though)
-I had one random freeze after hitting reboot and had to battery pull.
-With search bar removed I would like to see the ability to add a label or somehow utilize the added space on the homescreen.
-I would like to see a built-in battery percentage indicator that can be turned on/off if the user doesn't like it.
-Would love the ability to submit a bug report.
-This last con is not really an issue with the rom but more the ability to download it. I have had to try a number of different links in an attempt to get a good md5 match. For people who don't check MD5 (if you don't you are kinda asking for trouble) this can be a serious issue and will make them think the rom is bad. Plus they can screw themselves over big time if they also don't make backups.

This is just a very basic stock ROM. I deodexed the ICL53F system image from Google (Android 4.0.2) rooted it and installed busybox. I saw that no such stock ROM was available and decided to share mine.

Features
  • Stock 4.0.2 ICL53F
  • Deodexed Framework and System Apps
  • All APKs Zipaligned
  • Latest Superuser and su
  • Busybox Installed
  • Insecure boot.img (adb remount privileges)
Requirements

  • LTE Galaxy Nexus
  • Clockwork Recovery
  • Kernel and baseband in screenshot below (if you don't have them, look in the 2nd post for the fastboot images - flash them in bootloader prior to flashing the ROM)
Screenshot

Instructions

  • No need to wipe data coming from stock
  • Boot into Clockwork, make a backup (highly suggested)

Some things to watch out for

  • The first boot will take a few minutes

So between the first two posts, I got this to work, but I decided to wipe everything. Now, the phone is completely unable to get service. It waits on the first step of setup for a very long time. I'm in an area with service, and I've restarted several times. I'm not sure what to do now, but a it's not much of a phone if the radios aren't working :-/ Any ideas? My phone info matches the picture above.

EDIT:
Sorry for my stupidity. I apparently missed "radio-cdma" when updating the cdma radios, and must have flashed the cdma radio over the LTE :-/ Anyway, it's straightened out now.

Don't be like me! :p
