I got the tpu case which came with a screen protector and ordered the steinhil (sp) one as well.

Have not used either yet as I still have the screen shield that it had in the box, you know the one with GALAXY NEXUS in raised letters across the middle.

Hah...same here. I ordered a case from Incipio that comes with a screen protector but I sent it to a different address in case it did not make it here for the holidays. I still have the "GALEXY NEXUS" screen protector on. I can't wait to put a regular screen protector on though :)

I didn't get one, because for whatever reason my phones don't tend to scratch. I'm easy on them. And I don't like them. It sort of seems odd to me that they're necessary. Why not just make the screen out of whatever the screen protector is made of?

But I'm not able to use a clip holster for this phone, so I'll be carrying it in my pocket. I've decided I better put one on and I ordered the XO Skin.

Screen protectors aren't scratch resistant. Being plastic (and more elastic), they're tolerant to fine scratches.

But the main deal is anything that can really trash a screen - like out here on desert treks where I live - will eat up the screen protector instead of the screen. Then you replace the trashed screen protector and move on, phone like new.

The need for a screen protector is simply driven by one's environment and use conditions. If you don't need one great, but if you do, they're a lifesaver.

We get sandstorms here that will turn windshields grey-white and blast a new car down to the primer and even bare metal. Doesn't happen often - but it happens. You wouldn't go without one where I live.

The famous youtube key test is one thing - but sand is one of the active ingredients in sandpaper.

Everyone's mileage varies. ;)

I installed one before I even touched the screen. Well OK OK I installed 3 because the first 2 were epic failures due to dust
Someone suggested steaming your bathroom up first, worked like a charm for me and I've never ever kept one on because they always come out bad. I have one imperfection but I used a bath towel instead of my proper cloth and got a lil strand on the side.

I ... am a little disgusted that I feel like I need one due to the lack of Gorilla Glass.

Not to sound like a jerk, but you lost me at this sentence. I couldn't take anything else seriously after that. The Nexus has fortified, scratch resistant glass. In fact, Samsung has their own materials division which includes their own brand of glass and substrates, I think they know what they're doing.

To me a screen protector is unacceptable. I would rather have a slightly micro-scratched beautiful display, than ruin it right from the get go with a screen protector.

Noticed I have some hairline scratches on my screen today. You can only see them in the glare at the perfect angle, but if you know where they are you can feel them ever so slightly with your nail when going over them. There weren't any screen protectors I liked for the GN yet (been through the various brands of wet ones and hate them, and the few dry ones are short because of the curve) so I was going to go naked for the time being. But seeing as how I got those marks in only a week, I guess I'll just have to buy a temporary one till something better is out.

I got the Zagg one, its not that great in my opinion gets very smudgy and is harder to clean than I anticipated. Not to mention the hefty 23$ price tag. Live and learn, I suppose...

i had a skinomi on it , was horrible

got a best skins ever and its much much better. Im patiently waiting for my brando ultra crystal but thats going to take time to get here.

Cannot comment on the GN given i've only owned it for 2 days but, my iPhone 3GS had Gorilla Glass and no screen protector during pretty harsh use (keys in same pocket) for two years, and had not one scratch on it.

That said, I'm planning to get a protector for the GN after reading these forums. Probably overkill. One thing I can tell you is that the glass is much less (or it not at all) oleophobic than my 3GS was. Side by side the 3Gs shrugs off fingerprints that just layer themselves all over the Nexus.

My sister has a razr which I believe has gorilla glass, right?
I was helping her with the phone today. I was in her app drawer and it was misreading my touches. I told her to remove her screen protector but she swears she needs it.
I told her "then enjoy your frustration not getting the correct touches."

I was in a restaurant today and the exact same thing happened to me. I thought the fortified glass would be just as good as Gorilla Glass, but I guess not. Now I'm debating on whether or not I should relock the bootloader and think of a reason to use on Verizon for them to let me exchange the device for another one. I ordered an XO screen protector a few days ago, but still, I'm scared that the few small scratches that can't be seen when the screen is on, will eventually grow to something much worse. Any opinions on this? Should I exchange while I still have the chance, or just slap on an XO screen protector, hoping I get it right (the protector will go on no matter what, it's just that if I happen to get a lot of dust underneath, it will be thrown out and another one will not be purchased for quite some time)?

For me, the feel of a screen protector is far worst than some micro scratches. If there is one that I cant tell it is there, I would consider getting one but it isnt a priority.

If the screen gets a scratch, it gets a scratch. Once I get two scratches, I get more enjoyment out of my phone because I dont worry about babying it anymore.

Peace of mind.

I ordered some Steinheil oleophobic screen protectors. I pulled in to my drive way and saw the box containing the screen protectors at my front door. As I was getting out of the truck, I dropped my Nexus and put a huge deep scratch in the bottom left of the screen. It was too late. I am very sad about this but it will be the last scratch I put on this phone.

applied zagg screen protector on the phone. It's not cheap neither a easy job to fit it on, but it sticks the screen perfectly. I have to admit that I do feel a bit of resistant from it while doing pinch zooms and pattern unlocks. It feels more like moving your fingers on a rubber, but for easy keeping without extra care(I'd like to keep the phone in pocket along with my keys and coins) and directly use without pulling it from a punch every time ( a punch also blocks sounds) it‘s worth it.
