Help I'm not getting newer update than 2.3.3!?

Dude...the phone is 18 months old. Android 2.3.3 is a RIDICULOUS final update. Seriously.

Totally agreed that it's silly that we're not at least getting the rest of the 2. updates - but full Galaxy S support died when the SII came out, let's be honest.

SIII next year will repeat the pattern [as will the iPhoneX to the 4S].

Agreed. I'd download and do the later upgrades without Kies but I'm not a techy and do not want to risk bricking the phone!

Man, Its sooo worth it, I honestly live for this stuff and i'm always searching on it and i have NEVER heard of a phone being bricked..ever. If you follow the guide say DarkyROM then it will be perfect..The performace is unreal. And now Darky has the "DarkyOTA" app which has tons and tons of modifications for the phone through an app!

I still maintain that you should be a little tech-minded before rooting your device. So much could go wrong and you have everything to lose. But, when you're paying

Oh Gawd.
I knew I shouldn't've done this. Just following instructions blindly with no clue what it all means.

Well, I'm upgraded but I seem to be back to square one. My home screens are wiped, contacts gone, downloaded apps are still visible in applications but not running properly - force close city. One or two work but most don't. First thing I notice is Pattern unlock is gone. Then that keypad settings have reverted and then that my home screens are wiped. I lost my home screens with the last upgrade which was through Kies but that time the apps all worked - just the shortcuts had gone.

Wifi works so it remembered somethings - the password. It's halfway there but all a bit messed up. Not bricked but looks like it'll take some time to get it back to how it was. Any ideas to avert a factory reset?

Glad I waited till after Christmas.
Happy New Year everybody!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. That's exactly why I won't update mine other than through Kies I'm afraid. My phone is a lifeline for my business, I can't afford the down time. Good luck and Happy New Year to you too.

Still surprised that some of you have only got 2.3.3.

Orange have never been know for their speed when pushing out updates and they released 2.3.5 a little while back.

Also as this has happened can't believe the official line form Samsung is that 2.3.3 is the last update as Orange aren't know for doing things on their own.

As far as ICS is concerned as long as it can be made to run OK on the SGS then fine though from what I've read it might need to be 'cut down' a bit due to space requirements.

Seems hardware is OK but space is an issue and removing something like Touchwiz would resolve the issue. Though for 'some' this would degrade the user experience.

2.3.6 is pretty good now I've got it all ironed out. I bought the phone with 2.2 and I'd never heard of ICS at the time so can't be disappointed. I still marvel at this thing every day. It already does everything I need and more. In time there'll be more stable custom ICS ROMs for those that really care.

I took some time to find out how to root too it while it was in pieces. A happy ending as far as I'm concerned.

I just upgraded my firmware from 2.3.3. to 2.3.5 using kies on my Galaxy S.....I wasn't even looking to upgrade, just attached the phone to my pc tonight and kies popped up ofering the upgrade....I'm in the UK using the Orange network. Just thought i would let those know who thought 2.3.3 was the final upgrade with kies.

Lucky Orange! I'm on O2 and nothing!
