Help how do i make ringtones?... yea i am a noob

and do i have to make a folder for music i get from my pc or is there a default one?

It's a goddamn nightmare. Maybe there's a cool app, but if you want to do it manually, you have to take a snippet of the song, then create a folder on the SD card named ringtones and put the snippet in there, then reboot the phone or use sdrescan from the Market. Then go into your ringtone settings in Settings|Sounds. Then choose your ringtone.

Oh, and if you hook up the phone to the PC in storage mode, the ringtone won't play because the SD card is locked by the PC. So it won't ring.

Hey there is! Its called Ringtone Maker! Its a free app in the Market and you use it to create a snippet of a song, it automatically puts it in the ringtones folder and they don't pop up in your music library (unless you want to take a snippet of a song and save it as another song). You can also add fade ins and outs. I've been using it since my Hero (It used to be called RingDroid) and it's pretty awesome!

OP, you should get that app.

If you still want to do it manually, create a folder inside the ringtones folder named .nomedia. These won't show up in your music programs. That goes for any file you want to hide from media programs.

I find it's way easier than Cobravision would have you believe (no offense). I just plugged the phone into my PC, put it in mass storage mode, and copied a folder called media to the phone. The media folder contained a notifications, ringtones and pictures folder. When I disconnect from my PC and the SD card was automatically remounted I went into the usual settings and changed to my new ringtone and notification noises.

I definitely didn't need to reboot or use a scan tool. I also don't use a snippet of the song, I just throw the whole thing on there.

To answer your original question explicitly though, yes you have to create specific folders. Namely, a media folder which can contain folders for pictures, alerts, ringtones, notifications, and probably more I don't know about yet.

Try ringdroid or zedge from the market. Zedge is king in my book.

Stop right there. The only time I plug my device to my PC is to copy a >2gb file.

try Zedge ringtones (free app) . other people have created 513K ringtones and you can usually find the song/ring you want.

SO, I downloaded Ringtone Maker. It found a ringtone I put in a sound folder. How do I now make that the sound my phone plays when I receive a call? I tried long touch, menus. It plays the clip fine, but I don't see how to make it a ringtone for the phone.
