Root Droid ICS ROM possible?

So, as we all have heard, CyanogenMod is dropping support for the Droid. My question is then, is there anyone out there who is thinking of trying to get ICS to work on the Droid?

I am very much removed from the knowledge of requirements to run ICS and such, so we might be so far off that we can't slip by like we did with Gingerbread, but I thought the reason we got dropped was more due to the amount of difficulty finding legacy drivers for our hardware, not because we didn't have the specs to be able to do it (I mean, they even got it running partially on a G1

).

I do understand this would probably be a very small group of people - but if you are looking at trying to build an ICS ROM for the Droid and read this, message me if you need a tester

I'm in tech support so I understand troubleshooting, and can take very good notes - usually good enough to make up for lack of knowledge in some arenas.

1) Motorola DROID has not even gotten Gingerbread yet.

2) Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Minimum Hardware Requirements – 256MB RAM or More ?

3) Makes me think....ummm, no.

This doesn't quite count in my opinion because I'm running Gingerbread on my Droid now courtesy of CM7, unless you're trying to point out the fact that we have gone one step away from offically supported already, and thus a second step is less and less likely. I have always looked at ROMs as a trade-off. I release some of the expectations that everything will work great out of the box and in return, I get to enjoy things that corporations have decided for me that I don't get (for whatever reason, such as overall customer experience or profits or work hours needed).

That is a very large point against the Droid getting an ICS ROM, yes, however I don't know what the requirements are (and I tried a good bit searching - just don't know the right location or key words to use) for Gingerbread that they overcame to give us that. Once I can see the different hurdles I can understand better the level of difficulty. I am pretty sure our devices can use virtual memory of some configuration, so if ICS would work, but we have to act like we only have 100 mb of storage space, it might be possible to work around that.

Plus - like I said...they got ICS to run (albeit badly) on a G1

I'm still hoping

With all of this, I am still watching the Rezound for a good deal since that is most likely my next phone. ICS is all the Galaxy Nexus really seems to have (besides a nice form factor), and once we get a ROM out for the Rezound (and clear the s-off), I believe that 4.0 will use the Rezound hardware better than what we currently see for the Nexus 3.

I'll chalk this up to it being late when I replied lol.

I could have sworn you had asked if we'd see ICS from Motorola.

My apologies. I'm betting someone can make ICS work on the DROID, but it would be limited at best, like CM7 / GB is, b/c of our lack of processing power and RAM.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if ICS works on the venerable Droid,lol....someone make it happen! I'm on a Razr now but would love to see the old guy push it past the limits!
This is also makes me think of the PC operating systems. I've been told that Win 7 is alot more efficient and doesn't use as much resources as Vista did and that got me thinking maybe the same thing could hold true of Android OS. As they progress,they may become more efficient at using memory and thus may not need more but would run more efficiently with less. I don't know...something to throw out there and think about. That would work in the OG's favor; more with less! Who know's...she may have a future yet!

Another thing - ICS is supposed to be the first Android OS that can make true use of multi-core processor. Our DROID doesn't have that. it's gonna be extremely tough to port AOSP ICS to the DROID.

More likely an ICS theme for FroYo / GB ROMs will hit.

I just loaded it and the only thing that didn't work for me was the camera. It's very fast!

Yeah, ICS 4 BIONIC has the same problem. However, I will probably try it out sometime soon on my old DROID - it will be interesting to see what it *can* do, since I won't be using the camera anymore....

Tempted to try this on my old droid and compare it to my Gnex. I really love both phones, but in a way I miss my droid.

If I can successfuly get my WiFi working on my OG, I'll give it a shot. Problem is, I can't get the alpha ROM to download. MegaUpload is shut down (thanks SOPA) and I can't get the other to work. I'll give the pre-alpha a shot. Don't really need it for anything than just messing around.
