galaxy nexus to rezound people!

Essentially, for me, the driving point was the battery life. For whatever reason (signal, OS, etc) something was putting a heavy drain on the battery of the Nexus, giving off terrible battery life. This was what made me switch to the Rezound. Not to mention also, the camera on the Rezound is much better, and the amount of settings and options is doubley as high. And the shutter lag is almost so close to the Nexus, that I don't see why Google / Samsung would put such a focus on thier zero-shutter lag, but reduce the quality of the cam. The speaker on the Rezound is like 5 times as loud. Plus, having a removable SD card is a big plus! All in all, the only thing I really miss from the Nexus is the AMOLED screen. Wish the Rezound had that....but I'll definitely take all the extra advantages.

Returned the GN, just didn't feel right. No dedicated menu button, to far a reach for the back button. missed having a nice UI. Screen only 4.65 when viewing pictures or videos, not really larger for websites. Stock OS couldn't do a lot of the things we use a UI for.

Got the RZ yesterday - no regrets

I'm glad we have this thread, after days of not being able to decide what to do but I'm finally pulling the trigger and bringing the Nexus back next week. You guys have been able to use both devices in real day to day scenarios as opposed to just looking at the specs or playing with a demo unit.
You've made a wise decision. The radios on the GN were sub-par IMHO. Signal strength numbers aside, it couldn't hold 4G when transitioning into a weak signal area. Call quality was equally poor and matched its pitiful battery life.

The Rezound has been a pleasure to use. The GN had a lot going for it as its bootloader can be unlocked and has root now, a gorgeous screen, bloat-free UI but in the end, I wanted a phone that I'd be able to use wherever I happen to be. That wasn't happening with the GN.

This is spot on. I gave it a full 4 days too. I couldn't hold a signal anywhere that I normally could with my TB. Then, when I compared them side by side in a VZW store the rezound signal was much better.

Then I tried speedtest in my house, where on my thunderbolt I averaged 15 megs down. On the GN, I only got 700 KB!

Picked up the rezound..., back to the way it was with my TB.

I could do without the bloat, but hopefully when we get ICS we can disable it without rooting.

I'm thinking about shipping my GNEX back tomorrow :) The phone design is awesome, screen looks good, ICS is sweet but so many drawbacks. Maybe I'm just in a bad 4G area but I get terribly slow speeds. I just pray to go that the Rezound, when I get it, has faster 4G speeds. Can someone tell me, who's been on forums a lot, is the Rezound just better in the 4G area? Has anyone been complaining of slow 4G speeds on their Rezound?

I just have a few questions about the Rezound really quick. The VZW rep told me that the Rezound is expected to get ICS in January, any truth to this? And has any sort of root been found for the Rezound yet, I want to remove all that bloatware if I do get the phone and is there an ETA for root? It root for sure going to come, is it a guarantee or 50/50? I don't mind waiting a few months for root I just want to be pretty sure about it though

Is the Rezound the type of phone for more of the "everyday" user? And the Nexus is more for the "developer or hacker" user. Just right now it seems like the Rezound has more use even with the GNEX being rooted.

Is there really a noticeable speed difference between the phones, can you actually notice it?

I'm not a techie and don't get in to the nuts and bolts, but from what I've been told is that even after the ICS upgrade it still won't be a "pure" andoid experience since it Sense will still be running (ruining) on top of it. I also don't know what rooting does to eliminate the Sense.

Well I did a side by side comparison of YouTube on both. The Rezound full screen, the gn a smaller inset screen, both on HD. Volume was crisp on both, but lower on gn.
Camera speed about the same, gn beats Rezound for panoramic ease. Phone reception no noticeable difference where I was, but good for being inside a concrete building.
ICS is amazing and should be on other phones also, coming soon.
All in all, the Rezound is a really good phone, no regrets. I got it about a month ago from Costco for $50, great deal.

I wouldn't get 4G on my Thunderbolt at home. Now I'm always getting a 4G signal. My download speeds went from 3 Mbps to consistent 10+ Mbps. The guys at HTC took more out of their failures with the TB than Samsung took out of their previous 4G phone.

Potential nexus refugee here...I love the nexus feel and ics and an open/rootable platform. But this thing has issues I don't think will get fixed:

- nasty aliasing/artifacts in video playback (don't know how much this is "normal" for amoled but I watch a ton of video in a pitch black room the quality of playback annoys the crap out of me. I know LCD is basically "hiding" compression artifacts but I'm not streaming a bluray here.
- speaker volume is LOW. I can use volume+ but then the sound is distorted and sounds bad.
- amoled color variations in the screen. in my case lots of yellow hued areas
- signal level in buildings. I drop 4g entering basically any building and sometimes even 3g. unacceptable

The fact that I can temp root to remove bloatware is nice, but honestly I'm really anxious to get the rezound without s-off. :( Do you all think it'll eventually happen or will we be stuck? if it had s-off I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Still on the fence about returning the nexus but I'm really disappointed in the screen. samoled is supposed to have great blacks but instead I'm stuck with the crappy ghosting on the black parts of video.

Thoughts?

I literally drove to verizon twice while I was passing by doing christmas shopping only to get all indesisive on myself and not make a move. After going in and messing around with the rezound probably 3 times and talking to 2 different CSRs that own nexus's themselves I decided a temp boot will get my by until ICS is release and hopefully we get S-off. My big things with the nexus are the battery life being TERRIBLE for me even with the extended battery, the awkward feel of it in my hand for one hand texting (coming from a OG droid/brief run in with a 4s), plus it can sometimes get pretty hot for some reason. I wanted to give it time to see if there were just some kinks but it's just not for me. I'll be going to return my Nexus & shhhtufff tomorrow. It's funny because I'm glad I finally made up my mind, haha. ICS and some of the features of the nexus are so nice.. I just really don't think it's going to be practical for the way I use my phone.

I hated having to return my Nexus. Detested doing so. While I love my Rezound, I'm very disappointed at the Nexus' shortcomings preventing it from achieving its potential as the stellar phone it was meant to be. These bugs truly hold it back. Loved ICS. Loved the design of the hardware and how it felt in-hand. But there's no excuse for things like the speaker volume being ridiculously low, signal dropping completely in coverage areas, and call audio quality being iffy, etc. These are basic functions in any phone that are just expected to plain work, regardless of carrier or manufacturer. Yet, these are also essential functions, without which, a phone might as well be a paperweight. Aside from the yellow tint in the Rezound's camera shots and the idiotically flush physical buttons, the phone worked and worked well. I was excited when I switched from my first Rezound to the Nexus. Sadly, I ended up relieved to be able to switch back after just a few days. I'm glad, however, that there are those not experiencing all of these issues. I hope they can be resolved. Especially when you consider the non-advanced users who will see this as a potential cool phone to switch from. The phone needs good publicity, not bad.

I feel the same way. The reasons are slightly different for me, but I almost feel like it will be relief to return the nexus, despite all I love about it. :( I sort of think the signal issues might get fixed. But if the galaxy note is any indication of how Samsung will treat the Nexus' video issues, then I will be glad to wash my hands of it.

I remember the DROID X having similar volume issues that was fixed in one of the first OTAs. As far as signal and battery drain fixes, I have my doubts.

I had the DX and like everyone else was promised that a software update would fix the volume issue. Well, the software update came and went, but the volume issue remained the same.

A lesson I learned after owning that phone. I will never trust a company who promises to fix something with a software update. From now on, if it's something I can live with when I buy the phone then so be it. Otherwise, it's going back or I am not buying it.

Hmm, good point. But by that same account, there are certainly no assurances for me that the Rezound will get S-OFF, either. :( So I'm gambling that I may get stuck with a device that is forever locked...hmm
