Help Display randomly refuses to turn on

So, sometimes (most notably when I need it, of course), it seems that my display fails. I'll be on a call, or have just replied to a message, and the display won't turn on. I'll feel the vibration like I'm getting a text, and see the blinking lights, and hear the noise if it's not just on vibrate, but no matter what I do, I can't get the display to power back on so I can see things.

If I hold the power button, I can feel it pop up with that menu, but the only thing that fixes it is pulling the battery. Any ideas? It has done this for some time, and I can't think of any apps that would cause it.

The only reason I can think of that may cause screen lag is the use of the app SetCpu via root. In this case one has set up a profile to minimize the cpu usage when the screen is turned off, but since you did not mention anything about root, the culprit must lie else where. I haven't heard of this problem happening on stock phones so I would install System Panel from the market and see what all is running in the background, inactive, etc. It could be a rogue app that is using data (or trying to connect to the internet) to constantly update or an app that keeps the phone awake. You could also try turning off all the animations in the Display Settings. Worst case scenario is you have a defective unit and need to go into Sprint for a replacement, just be sure you can reproduce the problem on the spot.

Just had this issue today with both my wife's and my GS2 ET

Its like the phone is still alive and booted, but cannot get the screen to wake up (power button does not wake screen).

Had to pull battery to reset.

Stock Android (2.3.6/EK02), no root, fresh 2-day old phones. Running Juice Defender on both.

TIA for any help/info.

I've had an increase in customers coming into the store recently with this same issue, I did a hard reset on them and fixed the issue, then saw a few of them come back a few days later with the same issue and they had juice defender on the device. I uninstalled it and it hasn't done it since. So maybe try that?

_Epic, thanks! I will give this a try.
