With my new Razr due in from Fed Ex today I was wondering if anyone still uses a shield over a gorilla glass screen. My Ally with gorilla glass has been without a shield since I had it for over a year with no scratch. Though I keep it in a case inside my pocket for a little added protection. Do that because a previous phone was severely scratched just by keeping it in my pocket.

I went with the Zagg Invisible Shield from BB. Another $8 had it installed with no bubbles.

I stopped using screen covers with my DX and don't use one on my RAZR with no scratches at all on either screen. It depends on how the phone is used and since your Ally is scratch free after a year I would expect the same for your lovely RAZR.

I agree with this sentiment.
I'm fairly gentle with my devices. I've got the phone in a case, but no cover on the glass. The gorillas
are fairly proud of the scratch resistance, guess I'll find out how good it really is.

My screen is BUTT NEKID! I had one first couple of days from Verizon, thinking I wouldn't be keeping the phone but that soon changed. I would like to find a simple thin hard slip on cover for the body though. I have noticed very fine scratches on the back areas that touch surfaces.

Well my wife makes fun of me but I found the best minimalist "case" in the world. It is low cost, very light, see through, perfect fit, and the screen can be operated fine through it: Ziploc snack size bag.

I use no case and no screen protector .. I didn't use a case or screen protector on my Droid X and I got it on release day and only very small minor scratch that you have to hold just right to even see it

I don't use a screen protector on my Razr. No scratches so far.
I didn't use one on my Eris for the last year and it was really scratched up, but the scratches were only visible when the screen was off. So I've decided that scratches are no big deal. The Verizon rep was adamant that I should have a protector when I bought my Razr, but I was not persuaded.

Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant and although it is very tough it's still possible to get some hairline scratches if you're not careful. Even though I rocked my OG Droid for most of its lifetime without a screen protector and never got any scratches on it, I decided, for peace of mind, to go with the SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protectors.

Just screen protector and a TPU skin. Just to be safe. Plus the Cruzerlite TPU skins look great!

I use screen protectors on most of my portable electronic device displays for one reason only -- to enhance resale value. People are much more willing to pay good money for a used device when they know the screen will be scratch-free.
That said, I've been very happy with Zagg's InvisibleShields in the past, *until* I bought one for my RAZR. I don't know if I got a defective one or not, but it made the RAZR's beautiful display very grainy.
So I ended up switching to the SGP Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protector. It is 100% better in terms of display visibility and clarity, and doesn't have the "rubbery" feel of the Zagg. But the downside of the Steinheil protector is that it smudges very easily and I have to take a microfiber cloth to it regularly. SGP makes another type of screen protector that supposedly minimizes smudges, but I think I'll stick with the Ultra Crystal one.

For the first few Weeks I had my razr I didn't use a screen protector. I keep my phone in my pocket and im very careful with it but I noticed a few fine scratches on it so I bought the zagg from bestbuy and I hate the cover. It went on perfect with no bubbles but the picture quality is bad at first. it got better after a few days but still not good enough and the texture is grippy and rubbery. The feel of it is terrible. it also has a orange peel look to it. I think I am going to order a sgp screen protector and see if that one is better.

I've had my Razr for about a month and I bought a Zagg screen protector from RadioShack. Gorilla Glass is very strong and scratch resistant by itself. (Check out this video Motorola Droid Razr Scratch Test! Droid RAZR scratched with a KNIFE - YouTube ) So you can use your phone without a screen protector and I can almost guarantee you that a year from now you probably won't have any scratches on the screen even without a screen protector. I used my Droid X a little over a year and I never bought a screen protector for it and by the time I was done with it, it had like one or two very minor scratches. Gorilla glass is very very durable and scratch resistant. However, I would recommend a screen protector for your Droid Razr so that you can sell it and get the most amount of money possible once you are eligible for your next upgrade and you have no use for the Droid Razr.

I have tried putting a screen protector on my Samsuny Epic, but the Gorilla Glass for some reason makes them bubble everywhere. I have applied many screen protectors to family members as well as my own phones and never had this problem. I know I don't need a screen protector with Gorilla Glass, but find that they wipe off easier from my makeup and pro-active face cream. Gorilla Glass smears and it takes a whole lot more effort to wipe it off as opposed to just wiping with my shirt or against my pants from the screen protector.

I sell these phones, and tons of others with gorilla glass, and have screen protectors and cases on both my wife's and my own RAZRs. I've seen enough scratched gglass displays, so I just don't risk it.

We will soon see on Jan 9 an announcement from Corning about Gorilla Glass 2 which could be very interesting. I'm expecting increased hardness (scratch resistance) and tensile strength. I've been waiting foe the day when the "glass" contains an aluminum oxide or diamond coating similar to what is used in department store checkout scanners.

I have a screen protector on mine, just because I like to be as cautious as I can with such an expensive item. Also, I carry mine in my pocket as a default and don't like to risk it.
I do notice that it affects the picture. most noticeably on anything predominantly white or lighter in color. I have though about removing the protector and rolling naked ... but I always hesitate.

Actually I do that a lot myself. The only thing about it that annoys me is grabbing the phone when a call comes in - so i might stop putting it in a plastic baggy. Other than that the phone is naked; though I might cave in one day and get a tpu or tpu like case with kick stand. I guess the first time I drop it I'll probably reconsider using a case (if it survives ).

I was surprised that I don't need to remove it from the baggie when taking a call. The caller said they could hear no difference in my voice quality or loudness when inside the baggie and I could hear them fine.Actually I do that a lot myself.
