Giving up my droid to be........A fanboy. :)

I AM HERE TO VALIDATE YOU

i have the droid because i think its 2nd best to iphone and i must stick w/ verizon.

Plz tell me if you are so miserable with your second rate phone then why are you "stuck" with verizon. Take out your wallet pay the ETF and get the heck out. Or is it because AT&T sucks balls in your area A.K.A all over the country??? If so then get an Ipod touch and be happy with your apple world. Although if you had an ounce of patience then you would see how much android will become. Also yes apple has had years to make the app store what it is so shut it! Also remember the original Iphone without even 3g or an app store that people payed out the butt for??? Yeah that was a piece of crap IMHO! So apple gets a full year to bring a good product to market after a crappy one but droid gets 3 months??? That my friend is being a fanboy!! I am sorry but when people spew that kind of ignorance I will spew something back !!!!!

A few points...

The thing about the iphone is that it is a "prettier" device. The closed OS does mean that Apple can ensure that "snappiness" and "fluidity" that attracts so many people.

BUT...many of the arguments on the plus side of the iphone are only advantages now because the android OS is still an infant. I mean iphone has had three years to fix problems and serious lackings (cut and paste anyone?!). After Verizon sold 1.2 million units in 45 days when the Droid launched, then the Nexus One came out, the momentum shift goes strong to any Android phone. Now there are multiple tablets and tons of new phones coming out. Not just the Droid, but Android phones in general will dwarf the iphone in numbers in another 18 months. Let's not forget Flash, Jobs hates it for some reason, and its coming to Android soon.

Why is all this important? If you go to the iphone now, you are in for most likely a two year commitment with AT&T. You are on the wrong side of the momentum shift. Give the Droid, or any Android device another 6 months to a year, and most of the issues ("pinch and zoom doesn't work as well") will go by the wayside. There are just too many users who want a phone on Verizon that is "just as good" as the iphone. Plus millions of other users coming on other carriers.

Now, looks, design, etc., that is matter of personal choice. The Droid is definitely more "robotic", and not as "pretty" as the iphone. But that's a matter of choice in design. For me, I love the Droid. I just had to buy my wife one (and got a free one for another family member to boot!!) because she loved mine so much.

Now she is loving it. (Of course I overclocked it for her and added live wallpapers and such ha ha). But she is raving about the Droid.

But if its simply a design choice, the Nexus One is just as pretty as the iphone, and that's coming to Verizon as well. If you must have the Apple logo, and just love the exact way and measurement and color of the Apple phone OS, and for a lot of people that's what it comes to, then you only have one choice. But logically, there's little reason now in terms of functionality and design to choose the iphone over the Droid or another Android phone. You won't be able to do more, you'll be able to do less.

Oh and the app store? The Android Marketplace jumped from 10,000 to 20,000 to 30,000 apps in 60 days, how much longer will it take until it equals the Apple store? Heck, I know people who got rid of the iphone because they didn't like itunes and like the open environment of Android.

i am no android fanboy, but i kinda just proved half your crap wrong

Proved half my "crap" wrong? What the hell?

Overclock fixes it? YOU BET? Lolno it doesn't even come CLOSE to making it as smooth as the iPhone's.

App store? You said you haven't even seen Apple's? And you're trying to tell me you're proving my "crap" wrong? Please use some common sense.

I know that they are IMPLEMENTING pinch to zoom, obviously I have it on all of my main apps with root, and on Google Maps which was officially released, and it's terrible compared to the iPhone's.

Um, yes it's LOADS better than Gmail. You've obviously never used it, you can sync basically any kind of account with EASE. And the interface is too easy, pinch to zoom, attachment support, allows you to have all your accounts in one spot with easy push, instead of Gmail in one, and others in the Email app that doesn't push.

Camera one you gave to me, so that's that.

Also, the Cut and Paste is PATHETIC on Android, Apple has revolutionized it for phones.

So please tell me how you proved my "crap" wrong? You sound terribly biased and uneducated in this field, so please stop.

hahahahahaha yeah cut and paste, talk about that, go on! when did iphone get it, oh yeah! LAST YEAR! and droid 2.0 is.... 5 months old? yep, you dug yourself a hole. Jump in and enjoy the applelicious death that you so want. I will enjoy google thriving and over powering iphone, android already is about to OUTSELL iphone, so more popular. everything will get fixed that you complain about, its called time

sit back and enjoy the ride. i know i am, i have been more and more and more and more impressed with droid every day and all i usually hear from iphone friends are limitations this and that, droid exceeded my expectations, apple sets my expectations very low.

This is a funny thread.

To the OP, enjoy your iPhone.

I can see some of the merits of the device. While it is much 'smoother' than the Droid, and Android in general, don't forget that the interface is pretty weak. I mean, you have 20 static, low-res icons...and THAT's it.

So it better be damn smooth when I pan from screen to screen, because it takes no computing power to transition 16 icons (remember, the bottom 4 don't move).

So, it's pretty good that my Android screen with almost 3x the pixels of an iPhone3GS, which has dynamic widgets and high res icons, as well as a live wallpaper, is just as smooth :D

You're such a pathetic fanboy, and apparently an illiterate one at that. If you were to actually READ you would realize that I would take android over iPhone OS ANY DAY, but that doesn't say that Apple has some advantages over android.

How in the hell is it relevant that they just got it last year when we are talking about the advantages of one over the other, it ISN'T. You seriously need some education, because you are reeking of dimness. It has better cut and paste, simple as that, doesn't matter how long it took them and how new we are, point is, theirs is better and more effective.

You guys wine too much. To the OP enjoy the iPhone and move on. I have no idea what the reason for this thread was in the first place. For everbody else why even argue about this. If you love your Droid no type of explaining why our phone is better will change the OP's mind. I personally think the iPhone is a great phone. It is starting to look a little outdated though and Android is coming up fast. There's alot of things about the iPhone I wish my Droid had but there is also alot if things I can do with my Droid that I can't see myself being without on future phones now.

*any* phone fanbois boggle me a bit.

The iphone is also a very nice phone, it all comes down to coverage and personal taste. The evil snarky side in me wants to say: between the new puritanical take of the apple app store, and your wife coming over to the droid side, enjoy your lack of...hard to say what with out being offensive, :D

The non-snarky side sez: enjoy your new phone, whatever it may be!

Well I think those with a bit of disdain for Apple have a point re: how apple exerts control via the app store and itunes.

The cell world has always been full of tie-ins, lock-downs, and proprietary nonsense. Google is having a big effect in this regard. Part of it is due to Apple's success -- one of the few things competitors can attack them on is their lack of openness.

Apple's and its fans' arrogance has grown too over the last few ears, so there's naturally some blowback in that regard. Lately they've taken to insulting Adobe even. Apple wouldn't even exist as a company were it not for Adobe and PhotoShop. They would have just been another Silicon Valley history lesson of failure like SGI was.

But I agree that it doesn't change that the iPhone is a great device, however I think it's days dominating the smartphone market are very numbered.

Nevertheless, anyone who thinks Apple "revolutionized" anything needs their head examined and a history lesson.

The iPhone definitely has some pluses over the Droid, and if you deny that, then you are one delusional fanboy.

-iPhone is A LOT smoother and A LOT snappier/responsive.
-Apple's App store destroy's Android Market, and using the argument that it barely started isn't valid, because the fact remains that Apple's is better for the most part. I will say that Android Market has it's ups, but not enough to overtake Apple's.
-Pinch to zoom works so much better and is implemented in a lot more than on the Droid.
-Email is far better
-Camera is actually functional and doesn't take a year to take a picture, and the better quality that we should have doesn't even show!

With those said, I still prefer my Droid by far, but to say the iPhone has no advantages over the Droid is a little odd.

I would have agreed with you had you not added the fanboy part of it. The iPhone seems smoother and snappier, 1) Apple's polish and their use of kinetic scrolling (something Google engineers don't quite understand), but 2) There are just some intrinsic issues with using Java and Android OS not fully utilizing the GPU for graphic intensive processes. You have this great GPU onboard and the CPU is in charge of all the scrolling, page transitions, etc. Nod: Apple.

AppStore does not destroy the Market. Both suck donkey nuts. The iPhone interface for the AppStore is horrible. I don't know why anyone thinks that it's even remotely good. It almost drives you to iTunes and your computer to browse the AppStore. But the in-phone app is horrible. Market is bad too. Nod: Neither.

Pinch-to-Zoom. Maybe you didn't get the memo (also, make sure you add a coversheet to your TPS reports). Android is getting P2Z across the board natively in apps like maps, browser, etc. For Motorola phones, P2Z will be available in other areas of the phone, not just those apps. Nod: Both.

Email is far better?!? No phone integrates mail better than Google Android and Google Mail. You're delusional and you're starting to lose me. Nod: Android.

Camera. This topic has been discussed AD NAUSEUM. The camera isn't that bad. The iPhone camera isn't that better. Just because the iPhone's output is rather saturated, people think that's a better picture. Hint: Color saturation doesn't mean accurate or even better. I'm looking at two pictures of my son right now: 1) My sis took on her iPhone and 2) A pic I took on the DROID. BY FAR, NO CONTEST, Android camera pic looks SO MUCH BETTER. Colors are richer on the iPhone for sure, but the quality even in a lit room, horrible. Nod: Android, no contest.

I dont get why people start threads saying there going to an iphone on an android site, I mean either people dont care or there gonna bash you so why even start a pointless thread?

sorry if it sounds harsh, just doesnt make sense to me

I agree, gets tiring seeing thread title after title of "getting rid of droid". I won't tell anyone what phone to use as personal preference is a big thing so who am I to tell people what to use.

However, I also don't care at all if people are switching, and don't need to hear about it

I lovz me some apple vs android threadz!!!11!!!11!!!!

It’s actually quite simple! They are both great phones for completely different reasons.

I chose Android for a very specific reason. I can make it mine.

I pick what I want for a text message tone. If I don't like the interface I'm not stuck with what Motorola or HTC or Samsung...... Decided to put on the phone I can metamorph it my way. The freedom of the android market and its getting better and better every day. Rooting, over clocking, Wifi tethering....... I could go on and on.

Of course all of this requires knowledge or the willingness to learn how to do it all and also to fix it if it develops a "glitch"

All of this also takes time away from other things you could be doing.

So if i did not care about making every aspect about my phone mine

If I wanted apple to decide what I need and what I can have on my phone.

If I did not have the knowledge or the want to learn. thus need my phone to work perfectly all the time. Because I would have no Idea how to fix it if it suddenly stopped.

I would have bought an iPhone because it is a good phone.

I just could not make it mine. Sure I could jailbreak it but apparently Apple severely frowns upon that. Like Bramsy said above You getz no Cool-Aid!

Google on the other hand could care less if you root your phone and do what you want to it. You Carrier might care but Google does not.

LOL, i love verizon's network so much that its worth keeping the second best phone (MY OPINION GODDAMMIT, CANT I HAVE ONE?!). Oh and i do have an ipod touch. HAHA!

anyways, im not saying the droid is a bad phone. its like comparing a beamer and a mercedez. both are really good cars, but some prefer one over the other. i prefer the iphone over droid. nontheless, the droid is still an awesome smartphone.

overclock fixes that i bet

It doesnt make sense to me that you guys would say that a rooted droid can be just as fast a stock iphone. if so, then it wouldn't be fair to judge against the iphone that it can't multitask cause a jailbroken iphone can.

You may not know it but you are. If you've never owned the iPhone then I don't care who you are your opinion means absolutely nothing. All you can do is assume what it's like.

iPhone is a lot smoother and a lot more responsive. My buddy has a rooted Droid @ 950mhz and it still had nothing on my iPhone 3GS.

I don't think you understand that the Droid will never be as smooth as the iPhone why? Because the iPhone doesn't multitask. It doesn't have things constantly running in the background to slow the phone down. You don't have to keep using task killer many times a day just to keep unwanted apps from running in the background.

Pinch to zoom is 10x more fluid and smoother then on the Droid.

App store the iPhone wins hands down. Much wider selection of apps not to mention big companies such as etrade have apps on the iPhone where as the Android they do not. Games are way nicer too.

Email I think is real close but I give it to the iPhone again. Just because it's easier/faster to use.

I've been an iPhone owner since the first one came out and recently just switched to the Droid. I was bored of the iPhone OS. Everything on that phone worked and worked REALLY well.

I prefer having control over my phone where as with the iPhone you have to use the phone how Apple wants you to use it which is fine. If you've never used an iPhone or Android phone and want to get a smart phone and carrier's don't matter the iPhone is better by FAR.

Love my Droid and don't plan on switching back to Apple anytime soon.

"Never" is a looooooong time. As new kernels, new Dalviks, and our app store matures, I think you may have a different opinion.

I don't care what you use. But let's not even try to say that a non-multitasking device is a better option. That's simply ridiculous. If that were so, I'd go back to DOS 6.22 and be done with it all. DOS ran flawlessly ... better than any Mac. Now, do you see how foolish your argument appears under that light? I didn't think so. :D

this thread would have been a tad more useful had the OP shared why he is going to the iphone over the dread. he states that there are pluses and minuses, but he doesn't state what those are for him. would have been useful (for as useful as this thread could be anyway) had the OP shared why he prefers iphone over the droid.

as for me, i will stick to verizon. i'm not "stuck with it" (as a previous poster incorrectly ascertained from someone else's post) but rather I choose to stick with it because unlike Sprint, AT&T, and T-mobile, it is for me and the places i travel, the everywhere network.

I never said it was a better option. It all depends on the user and how they want to use the phone.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is about multitasking. I never had a problem not being able to multitask on the iPhone. If I had to go back to the iPhone I wouldn't miss the multitasking ability of the Droid.

EDIT: By me AT&T by me is pretty damn fast. Sitting at my house I was able to get a download of 2.95/400. Upload sucks but most of the time your downloading anyway.

Oh and for some reason wifi on the iPhone was better especially on the upload. I have Verizon FIOS with the 20/15 deal. On my iPhone I was able to get 12.5/9.5 the Droid only managed 9.5/1.5. But at these speeds anything you do is pretty much the same speed nothing to get excited about.

Things running well and the pretty factor are an interesting topic.. unfortunately the pretty wins. look at microsoft vs novell. Novells os wasnt pretty but it was bulletproof... mickeysoft invested in pretty... looks like we know who won. I love my droid.. but apple has sold a TUN more phones so I will give them that..

@damstr;sour grapes!!!you don't have a choice to start off. I bet you won't want to mutitasking or able to replace the battery and that's the reason you owned a iphone.I'll bet my bottom dollar that you'll switch to the iphone4g if they came with multitasking.
Btw,you did not own a mac because it has multitasking!!right!!
