Root Liberty question

I just rooted my phone using SuperOneClick, and then installed ROM Toolbox which seemed an interesting thing to have.

I have a D2 with GB 2.3.3, but I find it a bit slow, and I'm constantly clearing the keyboard cache because of the freezing. I'm thinking about trying out Liberty after reading mostly good reviews, but I have a few questions, and I apologize in advance if some of them seem silly.

1) I assume my apps will all still work as intended, correct?

2) It tells me I have to wipe the phone to install the new ROM. I assume this is like a factory reset, and I should unmount my SD card before doing this.

3) I also assume there's a good way to restore my contacts and apps after installing the new ROM. Is this as simple as re-running backup assistant and restoring from Google?

4) In ROM toolbox, there are 3 versions of Liberty. Are the Froyo and GB ones just hacked versions of those ROMs, and the Liberty 3 the full version?

1 - All apps will continue to work the same
2 - Before Flashing a ROM always wipe dalvik and cache - probably best to do a factory reset too. That way you'll get a clean install. Downside is you will have to reinstall all of your apps.
3 - Google contacts will restore automatically (gotta love GMail!) Backup assistant should work as well, but it is likely to have been removed from Liberty.
4 -Use Liberty 3; It's pretty sweet actually.

I also have something called Lookout Mobile Security, which claims to have done a system backup. Maybe between that and Google, I won't lose any contacts.

Do you (or does anyone else) know of a way to make a list of apps that are installed (other than writing them down)?

1) Yes, Liberty is the closest you'll get to "stock" without running Stock.

2) Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik.

3) I'm an advocate of keeping Contacts in just 1 back-up source, so if you're using backup assistant may I recommend using Google instead?

4) LIB3 the Bloody Sunday iteration is the most recent and best so far.

ps: I was running Liberty prior to SBF'ing back to Froyo and pulling the GB OTA update. While I like Liberty...Stock for now does what I need it to do.

Thanks for all that.

The phone's life started with using Backup Assistant, and I've since exported all the contacts to the SD card and imported them into Gmail, so I think I'm covered.

EDIT: I notice that Lib3 is in jrummy's ROM Toolbox, but I'm assuming that since I have to wipe the phone, I can't install it using that. Is this correct or am I missing something basic?

To install using rummy's ROM TOOLBOX you'll also need ROM MANAGER to be installed.

Otherwise you can download the most recent ZIP from their website and do it manually.

Well I pulled the trigger. Backed up my stock ROM, then went into bootstrap and did a factory reset, wiped all the caches, and installed the latest L3 from SD card. It was actually VERY easy.

So far it seems MUCH faster. The fonts are a bit on the huge side, but nothing I can't deal with. I went back to Launcher Pro for the home app, because I'm used to it, so it's all very familiar.

Best part? Battery now shows 1% increments instead of 10%

How's LauncherPro treating you? I hated how sometimes it'd bug out on me when I was running Liberty 3.

Every once in a while on boot up, it force closes, but other than that I haven't had any problems. I was actually thinking it was caused by my overclock (I've since installed JRummy16's Oc'ing app, and I'm running it at 1.25GHz @ ultra low voltage) but I suppose it could just be LP tripping up.

Maybe I'll switch back to the standard Liberty3 launcher and see if it cleans up the FC issues.
