itvplayer works at a very low framerate .hopefully 4.0 ics will be better for catch up tv

20111212 and 20111228 are the same firmware 20111228 has extra apps and games pre installed. bbciplayer works in sd not hd on live tv, i cant get catch up to work. youtube works perfect hq and hd. networking works for me useing playon. inbedded videos on the web work well.

Does it allow EPG scheduled recording? And it is possible to select the channels using the remote number keys (someone mentioned it was not possible in previous releases)?

You use USB ttl. Please be sure that drivers are instaled in pc for that converter.
Its powered form USB or TTL line?

I use converter (MAX3232 chipset) based on rs232 powered from com.

Sorry if it's been asked and answered already, but I have an ATV1000 running 2.3.4 (build 20111102) and I just can't work out how to play my TV shows and movies from my NAS. Is there a recommended app to do this?

If you want to reach the NAS by Samba try AnTek File Explorer, this has a major benefit as AnTek asks what app to use with a media type (e.g MKV) so you can tell it to use the "Movies" app which is Geniatechs player which is hardware accelerated and it opens right away there is no downloading and the AnTek app works over ethernet.

The only downside is the UI is not so great, if you purchase the pro version you can have different layout modes and make a little bit better.

The problem with various DLNA clients and media players is not all will either support certain media types and offload the video to the Geniatech player. Another Samba client with a better GUI than AnTek is ES File Explorer but the free version I tested would not open any media files other than MP4.

For those with update20111228.zip verify failed problems, reformat your SDcard as FAT16 then try again.

I was getting those errors constantly and only after formatting the SDcard did it work, also the update can take a while and look like it stalls but it will eventually go through.

u dont need any extra player/app to play/stream from nas.
1. go into network (on the box). it will find the samba
2. click on it once (on samba partition)
3. click on the top-left second icon (this has to be done only once for new samba files, so u wont have to do it again next time)
4. click again on samba partition and it will open the partition
5. find file and open i as usually

i also had great success with app: CifsManager, but for that ur device need to be rooted
