On-Screen Keyboard

Since my keyboard unit isn't here yet, I've got to use one of the on-screen keyboards and am pretty unimpressed. Neither choice is as convenient to use as the one on my HTC Desire smartphone.

The Asus keyboard has auto-completion and numbers on the main keyboard, but is missing critical punctuation there such as an apostrophe. It's a pain to type "isn't" and have to switch key layouts in the middle of the word.

The Android keyboard has more punctuation, but only auto-correction and not auto-complete (and we know what fun auto-correct can be).

So what are you using, and are there better 3rd-party solutions out there? So far I find using the keyboard less convenient than on the smartphone since I can't really use the two-thumbs technique that I'm pretty good at on my phone.

I havent tried it on my Prime yet but I have Swift Key on my Evo 3D and its the best I've tried. I will update you once I try on the Prime. Good customization and really learns your typing. The predict is far better then any other keyboards I've tried.

I downloaded Swype and it works great but recently I downloaded A.I. keyboard for tablets and it's pretty cool. The keyboard is split in half so you can use your left and right thumbs to press the keys

I have Swiftkey and I absolutely love it, especially being rooted. But it looks like you will have to buy Swiftkey for tablets version for the Prime. I'm not about to spend money again on an application I've already bought but then again, I didn't look more into it to find out if my previous purchase works for the Tablet version :thinking:

A.I. and Swype work great

I use Swiftkey on my Nexus AND my Prime. Fantastic apps.

I bought Swiftkey (tablet) and love it. In landscape, the split keyboard works way better than the stock keyboard. A few (inner) keys are a little bit farther than I'd want, but overall it works fantastic. Highly recommend paying for the app, worth every penny.

Do you guys know if I have to purchase Swiftkey for Tablets even though I've already purchased Swiftkey for the phone?

Yes you have to purchase swiftkey for tablets separately, even if you already have the swiftkey x for phones.

Also worth mentioning is that we will very soon (next week I hope) have the ICS keyboard.

(Which I find to be very good on my Galaxy Nexus).

If you do buy any keyboards right now, make sure they are ICS compatible (I know some like Swype aren't yet -- though Swype is saying end of the month for an update).

Thanks for the suggestions. The best choice is always highly subjective, but I installed the Thumb keyboard and find that it does everything that I need for my usage. I really don't expect to use it all that much once I have the physical keyboard in hand, but would just use it for a quick email response or online posting.

I use Swiftkey on my phone, so don't think I'm ragging on it but...

...Thumb Keyboard is by far the best tablet keyboard out there (in my humble opinion of course.

) The customization abilities it offers absolutely blows SwiftKey out of the water. I type WAY faster on my tablet with Thumb Keyboard than I do with SwiftKey, be it on my tablet or on my phone.

Okay, so I'm giving thumb keyboard a shot. I've been a fan of Swiftkey for a while now, but that's the beauty of Android...choices. so, I'm gonna give it a spin for a bit and see. First and only complaint, if you call it that, is with Swiftkey when you hit a comma, it automatically put a space after it. Not a big deal. Just have to get used to it. Thanks for sharing.

Edit: I have no idea why my post started with a sad face. Still have to figure that I've out. Please ignore the sadness. :-D
