Help camera takes terrible pics......

I think its just easier to complain than to try to solve the problem. And its easier to blame the device, than to accept that maybe its user error or a dirty lens.

And there are probably some people who actually had a defective camera.... it happens. I went through 5 original droids with all different physical defects. With the number of Nexuses (Nexi?) they made, the odds are there are some defective units.

When I was on vacation I took some horrible shots. I went back an figured out I was focusing wrong (and had a misty lens from the salt spray) and now I am happy with the camera. As you can tell from all the shots I have posted here, I believe this camera is very functional but I am quite willing to consider that there may be problems. I'm just unable to find any defects in the camera itself.

I was one of the persons who towards the beginning of this thread was quite unhappy with the camera but I posted pics and actively sought a solution as opposed to just writing the camera off as a pos. After an exchange for a different reason, I began experiencing much better images. Albeit the indoor shots weren't always as good as those on the Rezound I also had, but they were certainly serviceable. I do believe there is chance some might have a bad camera. I did. But otherwise, there are numerous possible reasons behind the poor pics other than the camera itself.

Glad things are improving for you! I hate when one of my new toys isn't living up to my expectations.

Our family gets together during Christmas, we all take various pics with our personal cameras and cell phones and then we contribute them to make a family calendar. The calendar arrived in the mail today and after looking at it my wife said "you need to stop taking pictures with that phone of yours. It takes terrible pictures. "

To all who are unhappy with the camera on the Galaxy Nexus, do yourself a favor and install the app HDR Camera. You will thank me. I was so disappointed in the camera that i was considering returning the phone. After installing HDR Camera, the results sre amazing. Sharp pictures and vibrant color. The GNex camera is now better than my Sony camera.

Does it have the same camera as the original Galaxy S? I dont own the Nexus but im SERIOUSLY tempted on returning my Razr for the Nexus, but the camera is my biggest fright. I take pictures on a fairly regular basis and the phone is my main source for taking pictures so Im kind of a harsh critic when it comes to phone cameras. The Razr's camera, needless to say, sucks. The camera on my old Fascinate is still unmatched. Like I said, it was also a Samsung and a 5 megapixal which makes me think that it is the same, or better camera...These are just for reference, but this was my Fascinate's camera and it did pretty good in low light and bright sunlight...

or... learn how to take photos with the GNex, because face it, its really tricky to get the right image with the GNex, as proven time and again by our forumers that it is possible to take decent photos with the GNex.

@redraptor its actually a different (better) lens, it has improved backlight illumination (suppose to take better pics in low lights) and it is what enable GNex to take instant photos (Yes the zero shutter lag is not due to the software, but hardware).

Is the camera super-excel-magnifi-mega-opto-badass in terms of picture quality? No. Can it take great photos? Yes. Can it take the best photos you've ever seen? No.

In particular, I am a bit disappointed with the pano image quality... but the video quality seems really good. Also the sunset setting seems to do a great job of reproducing the colors accurately...

So far the camera seems comparable to my 8MP sony point and shoot in terms of quality. However, camera is not my biggest concern with a phone. It's a necessity and it would be a decent camera, but as long as I can snap decent pics, that's fine with me.

I just started trying the HDR Camera free version. Nice results so far. Pics seem much better than stock app. I'm noticing the file size of the pics generated using HDR is much smaller than stock images. This concerns me a bit. Does the paid app have diffrent compression settings?

I finally decided to compare exact shots from my year and a half old Fascinate with those taken with my shiny new GNEX. They are very close, however... when zoomed in on my computer you can definitely see greater detail in shots taken with the Fascinate. For example, when looking at the wood fence surrounding my pool you can see detail of the wood grain in the fence with the shots from the Fascinate. That level of detail is missing from the GNEX. Colors also seem to be truer with the Fascinate.

I also took indoor, low light shots with both phones and again the Fascinate shots show greater detail whereas shots taken with the GNEX (with flash) show banding.

So from a purely camera perspective, the GNEX can't even keep up with it's older sibling.

Add poor signal quality to that and it looks like I'll be heading back to VZW before the 15th. I love ICS and the speed of this phone. But hardware quality is definitely not there. And I actually need a phone with a solid voice connection as it's highest priority.

To say I'm disappointed in the GNEX and Samsung is a huge understatement.

Bad photos are because of operator head space and timing. The folks I show my photos to always exclaim how superb they look.

This is from the panorama option in camera. Un-retouched. Taken today.

very nice!

I'll just add that I think there should be manual settings, some of the "auto" settings are just silly.

Is there a "Support camera takes excellent pics" thread yet?

Please upload for us several pics of headshots, in low light with flash. I have yet to see one person on all the Internet submit a such a pic. There is a reason.

I still say this is the worst camera phone on the planet. I cannot get 1 single low light pic with flash without red eye city. Happy to see though that it is *possible."

Red eyes happen to any camera with flashes even dslr, it just has better chance to not have it since flash is farther apart.
There're techniques to avoide it.
Since red eyes r due to reflect light from flash, make them look at u instead of camera, or tilt the angle, or make it pre.flash by tapping on screen to shrink pupil on eyes so it would reflect less light.
