Unfortunately, no, the settings aren't retained on a reboot. However, before if I simply closed and re-opened the camera application, the settings were changed back to widescreen. Were other people not seeing that? At least now when I close it and re-open, it maintains settings as long as the phone is still on. I rarely turn off my phone anyways...

Try waiting like an hour...it will (?) forget the settings. I can close and open mine and it remembers too...cause it's still waiting in the background, but once android really closes it, after whatever amount of time, the settings revert to the new (crappy) default.

Ok, so I've had a few issues with the original Gingerbread update, the most significant for me being the camera bug everyone faces and that it caused bluetooth to stop working with my car's audio system. Other than those, I've not had much to complain about. I've loved my phone before and since the original update. It has been more stable than Froyo and battery was pretty much on par with Froyo.

Now Moto pushes out this new keyboard update that was not affecting me, and suddenly my phone crashes 1 hour after the install. It completely froze, and I had to do a battery pull. This is the first time I've had to do a battery pull since the original Gingerbread update. I'm really hoping this isn't a sign of more to come.

Sorry to vent, just frustrated that they force these updates upon you when you don't want/need them. Because it always seems to screw something up for someone. This time the someone is me, I guess.

I registered just to comment on this topic. I was on rooted OTA 4.5.602 and unrooted my X prior to applying the 8MB 4.5.605 update. The update went flawlessly, as did the reroot process using One-Click 1.06. I was able to use ScreenModeWidget to toggle between Auto Lock/Never Lock/Screen Stay modes until 4.5.605. Now the Screen Stay mode only applies the 15 minute maximum setting in my display options. The only available values are 15sec, 30sec, 1min, 2min, 10min & 15min. There is no accessible option below that.

For those of you who maintained the Never Timeout option, did you update using the 8MB or 113MB OTA file? It is very strange that the option is only present for some users on the same OTA 4.5.605 build.

I was rooted prior to the OTA to .605 and didn't unroot before DLing it. I rerooted after the OTA and I have all the timeout options. I have no idea how to tell how big my update was. If you tell me how to check, I can report back, but it's odd, for sure!

I believe that anyone still on Android 2.2 would have received the 113MB file and those on a prior Gingerbread build received the 8MB OTA update. The file is downloaded to the "cache" folder which I believe is only accessible on a rooted device. Since my file no longer exists I imagine it's deleted at the end of the update process.

What's more puzzling is that mxsjw is also missing the "Never Timeout" option but his remaining timeout values are different from what I have. The inability to keep my screen active is driving me nuts!

BTW, if you landscape the timeout option screen you should have the ability to scroll to verify the last available value.

Factory reset tonight...fixed it. back to :30, 1, 2, 10, 30, and never...fricken weird huh? :thinking:

My phone updated last night with no problems. I'm unrooted (whatever that means) and so far, I haven't had any problems except that the new mail and text icons are smaller and harder to see with my middle-aged eyes.

I do have a question, which I hope some of you pros can help with.

What are profiles and how do they work? I'm clueless as to their purpose.

Any clue as to why the address book and contacts are now exactly the same thing? Used to be one would let you swipe across and see status updates. That's gone now.

Do like the new colors for texting screens. The old ones were heinous.

Anyway, thanks for helping with my questions. The Droid X is my first smart phone and I love it but it can get confusing.

I have a DROID X that was rooted and flshed to Cricket. It was originally flashed last year and then had issues with it downloading and trying to install an OTA update (4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US). It would not give me an option to disable the download, or install, and would sometimes lock up the for hours then said "install was not successful". I went back and had it updated to 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US, and Android 2.3.3 . It has been working great for a few weeks, then lastnight, I get a popup saying that update 4.5.605.en.US has down loaded and is ready to install. It gave me the options to "Install Now" or "Install Later". I choose install later, but it pops up every hour. I'm happy with my phone the way it is, and was wondering if I could stop it from asking me to update, or downloading future updates. If I do update, will it still work on Cricket, or default back to Verizon. Do I need the 4.5.605 update??? Please help!

You should start your own thread. Besides that, if you're rooted you shouldn't do an OTA update. I wouldn't do an OTA anyway; who knows if it works well?
