[International / GSM] Need input/help--Restoring Stock VZW Apps For OTA 4.0.3

Hey guys,

The Nexus is my first android and I am absolutely loving it. I have unlocked bootloader, rooted, and flashed clockwork mod so I am good to go, though I am still running stock as I want to wait and see what updates Google has to offer.

Cutting to the chase, I have screwed up. I ran Titanium Backup, backed up EVERYTHING, and decided to delete some apps. Being a dummy and knowing that I shouldn't do it, I uninstalled MyVerizon Mobile, but left VZ BackupAssistant.

My question is, will deleting this app affect my Nexus as far as being able to download the next OTA? I've heard nightmare stories of people not being able to download OTAs due to uninstalling "bloat" that actually wasn't bloat.

Lastly, if this will affect my phone's ability to install OTA updates, how do I go about reinstalling the app?

Okay thanks for the input. I'm hoping this wont affect the OTA download
For aome reason, I am not able to redownload MyVZ Mobile to give me peace of mind. The phone doesnt recognize the app anymore now that I've uninstalled it. Anyway, thanks for the help, hopefully I will be alright.

EDIT: Was able to finally reinstall myvzmobile. Thanks for the help, mrichick.

You're welcome ;) Remember too that for these weird problems, there's almost always a workaround that gets us back on track. So if you ever do have a problem with the OTA, you won't be the only one I'm sure...help is always near from my experience.

Did you eventually have to do anything special, BTW, to reinstall the app, or did it just mysteriously work after a certain number of attemps?

More than likely you would need to move those apps to /system/app instead of /data/app to make them system apps not user apps for the OTA to see them if it checks to make sure you have a clean /system. Also as stated above you need to be on the stock recovery, if you just renamed the recovery-from-boot.p file you can change it's name back and reboot and it will change your recovery.

Honestly this is a nexus phone there won't be any real differences between 4.0.3 OTA and most roms other than it will have a kernel you can't overclock and it will cause you to lose root if you take the OTA. Because of no OEM UI and the lack of bloatware there won't be any dramatic difference between 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. You can try flashing [ROM][Wookie Gonna Getcha Final - RootzWiki to see what the update will look like (without VZW's apps) as it is a pure android rom without any special tweaks from the dev ;)
