You're looking in the hard drive mate. You should have an icon on the left called either "My Computer" or just "Computer". Click on that, and the right pane should show all of your drives - hard drives, CD-ROM, DVD, any USB drives and.... hopefully..... your phone's memory card.

Okay it shows;
Acer "C"
Windows office click to run
DVD RW drive
Removable dick "E"
Printer

I have no idea what "ROOT" is?
I've done nothing to the phone nor the computer!
It worked once and now nothing.
Thanks
try connecting only enabling the usb storage mode, don't open Kies (Kies for me is a piece of crap software and you don't need it for nothing, there are a lot of better ways to connect the phone to PC) just look for the mounted drive in windows explorer, if that doesn't work too then either you got a problem with usb drivers or usb ports, try plugging the usb cable to another usb port.
also I would recommend connecting to PC using wifi instead if you have a wireless network, install airdroid from market on the phone I think you will like it.

My computer is always WiFi. Yes I have plugged in the USB without Kies. All three of my USB ports work perfect with other things plugged into them. It's just the phone, it doesn't even display anything in explorer other than drive "E"?
So is the phone screwed?

I'm still playing,..............the little USB symbol at the top of the phone, I pulled it down and had the GREEN android, click ok and then the ORANGE android was on the screen.
I decided to check explorer at this time. It still only shows a drive "E" but when I right clicked it and asked to open I saw these files,....am I close?

yes those files are from the phone SD card and you have it mounted, now on the windows file explorer you can create any folder on the drive to copy/paste anything from the PC
remenber you cannot have the drive mounted if you want to use Kies, unmount the drive first (on phone and maybe the laptop too if the drive E doesn't disappear) then Kies should find your phone.

also always when the phone drive is mounted you have to unmount before pulling out the usb cable or your phone SD card data may get damaged.

Sorry but I am having trouble understanding what you wrote! (Mounted)? (drive mounted)?
I don't know much about computers or the phone!
Thanks

@wfeere: To unmount the SD card 'Menu'->'Settings'->'SD card & phone storage'-> 'Unmount SD Card'.
I remembered that on my PC with 10 USB ports, 8 usable, one in the front used to accepted ONLY my Sony Ericsson K750i cable & nothing else, nothing connected to it works so I now ignore it. Not tried it with this phone. I basically use ‘MyPhoneExplorer’ as I used it with the K750i & since it works with Android phones I could seamlessly bring in my contacts & other data. For syncing my basic data like contacts etc I use Bluetooth & for transferring major heavyweights like music to SD card I use wifi with the above mentioned s/w even though I have KIES installed & working I find it quite primitive. Might use it in future if there is an update (doubtful) for Ace.

same way you mounted the drive on the phone turn the "ORANGE android" to GREEN, that should be enough for the drive E to disappear from the laptop, if it doesn't right click the drive E, there should be an option to unmount or safely remove.

use this option only for removing (unmount) the SD card from the phone, for removing (unmount) the drive from laptop use the notification window

All I want to do is plug the phone into my computer. up date my contacts on the phone but through the computer or vise versa.
Maybe take photos from the phones camera and put them on my computer.

Thanks

cant you understand there are two ways to connect the phone to PC with usb cable?
one is to use the USB storage mode that mounts the drive E on PC, on the drive E you can copy any file from the PC or do anything you want, simple and best way to manage your phone!
the other is using Kies, only problem Kies doesn't connect to phone if you have usb storage mode enabled (drive E mounted on PC), that's what I have been trying to tell you, so why are you confused?
