Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

It's plugged in and not charging.... I have it plugged in and need to move it to a certain angel to charge

Using the stock cable or a third party? Happened to my OG droid. Had a third party cable that I used to charge in the car while navigating, after a couple of uses, it wouldn't work anymore unless it was at a certain angle. Sometimes those third party cables aren't made to the same tolerances as the factory ones so they don't fit as snug and the pins are lined up as precisely, so when it gets a tad loose, the pins don't line up at all and thus youre phone doesn't charge.

The 4-foot stock cable that came with my Nexus actually went bad. Cables DO go bad from time to time. Verizon covered it under warranty and, since they didn't have another 4' cable, replaced it with a retail NINE-FOOT extended cable (retail $29.99) for free! If your stock cable goes bad, take it to Verizon.

I do rely on google voice, but I can access gmail at work and have google voice set to forward all voice calls to my office phone during working days/hours. So it's not a big problem for me. I could see where it would be for others though. Even if I did have mobile data on, I might not get a notification from google voice for an hour sometimes after the actual voicemail. I also have it set to text my actual cell number when I receive a voicemail.

actually now that you mention it, i am able to access google voice, although not gmail, at work. so i can get/send texts. i never thought about fwding calls to my work phone...

is that a setting you control in the desktop version of gvoice? or on the phone? i would entertain the idea of getting tags to program this automatically when i'm at my desk and away from my desk. may be a neat way to use nfc... albeit complex.

Do you have another cable around you can test out?

so this is interesting. i wanted to download an app. open up market and i notice i've got no data and no connection. i toggle airplane mode, nothing.

still no data, i find the app on my computer and download from the website. within seconds i see my data pop back up and the download begins.

why when i want my data to use any app i have no connection, but when google/market pushes the dl to my phone, it suddenly wants to cooperate?

On a call with them now, they acknowledged the issue and said that re-provisioning makes sense, she had me turn the gnex off and she is doing something to the account. She just came back on line and said she re-provisoned and re-synced the account. She then had me power the phone back on. Once the gnex was fully up, she had me pull the battery while on and remove the SIM card for 30 seconds then reboot. She then gave me her email and asked me to email her if it happens again. Here's hoping this fixed it!

Thanks for keeping us posted. I've been on the phone a lot the past week (I forgot to report back... ALL of IT was let go here at work... our work-through day is March 16th) and I haven't had any one-way audio problems lately. I'll be sure to give Verizon a call from my wife's Fruit Phone and mention reprovisioning. Let us know how it goes!

Have a question and want to see if anyone else has noticed it.
Sometimes when using the stock browser (usually on this awesome site!), when I hit the back button, it frequently just refreshes the page. I have to continually hit the back button to actually go back. Anyone else notice this? And, FWIW I'm on AOKP 18 with all four softkeys.

Oddly enough, I can access gmail but not google voice at work, lol. But I don't know if it's something easily changed from your phone. I have it in my settings to automatically forward to my office on Monday-Friday between the hours of 7AM and 3:30PM. Those are my normal office hours. If it rings there when I'm not there, then it goes to voicemail eventually and I'll get it on my cell phone and can call them right back. I think there's an option to even ring your cell before going to voicemail if there isn't an answer on your primary forwarding phone. I could be wrong. But it's not something I change ever. I set it up on that schedule and leave it like that unless I'm out of office for an extended period of time (multiple days).

Let me clarify, the settings I refer to in which I have mine set to forward are on the desktop site.

I don't use stock browser. It gets disabled as soon as titanium backup gets dolphin up and running.

I'm on 17 and have never experienced this. Have you tried resetting the nav bar buttons back to stock and see if you experience it or are you thinking it is the stock browser itself?

Thanks. I've got a couple of irons in the fire and sent my resume out to several companies. I've already heard back from a few places but no follow-up calls. There's time, and I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be "extended" (as they call it) past my March 16th date. They are already nervous over who is going to be providing IT support for 30- 60- and 90-days past the merger... we're like, "we don't know, you let us all go." I mean, really? It seems that letting all of IT go at once (~175 of us) wasn't thought-out very well.

Being extended isn't a bad thing... it's a job and a paycheck for however long they need me (up to 6 months post-close). My only worry is lining up another job for March 19th and being extended at the last minute and having to pass on the other job.

Anyway, the spousal unit and I have been through hard times before. We'll be fine. :)

i had this great idea, googled it. lo and behold, i'm not the first one. go figure.

anywho, i'd love for Google to implement this in Jelly Bean. Support for multiple user profiles on android tablets. there could be one or multiple accounts to merge applications on the device, and each app could recognize the user profile upon launching the app.

You've got the right attitude! More people need to have that attitude in this world. You'd think some people thought the world was coming to an end if they lost their job and had to take a lower paying one and couldn't afford their premium satellite package with HBO, Showtime, etc. anymore. Hope you find another position soon!

My two cents (which is all it's worth) is that lateral moves often let you jump two rungs up the ladder, instead of one rung at best with a current employer. Knock 'em dead!

Hi everybody! I've been lurking around since the early days of the pre-release thread. I love just about everything about my Gnex, however two issues have really been bothering me.
First, the external speaker quality seems rather un-dynamic. I installed the paid version of Volume+, which does help somewhat, but the speaker is still nowhere near my old Droid OG. The second issue is the vibration motor. Mine is so weak that I frequently don't feel it even if it's in my pants pocket. Again, not even close to my old Droid.
Can these issues be fixed? Has anyone else experienced this?Any input would be greatly appreciated. Please forgive me if this has already been covered.
Thanks!

Well, the Feds are starting early!

They just shut down MegaUpload for violating piracy laws. This is completely bass-ackwards: instead of going after the download sites, why aren't they going after the uploaders?

Because there's no money in that

i think what we're seeing is the first guinea pig. someone was going to be the example. there's no way their going after big name sites. but MegaUpload, albeit popular, doesn't have the brand loyalty as the other guys (think if this happened to google... boy would there be a pissy fit). but if they want to be serious about cracking down on this issue, and hardly anyone will disagree that it needs to be dealt with, they gotta start somewhere.

one of the arguments against passing SOPA and PIPA was that laws are in place tackle copyright and piracy offenders. personally, i would have been surprised if we didn't see something like this in the coming weeks.

i think to answer your question tho, it's certainly easier to go after one person/company than it is to hunt down thousands if not millions of individual offenders. and if they (MegaUpload) has knowingly facilitated illegal downloads, they deserve the scrutiny and punishment. google removes youtube videos that infringe on copyrights... they should be doing the same.
