Hi,

I am thinking of getting a Samsung Epic Touch 4G Galaxy II for my next upgrade. I am wondering what the difference is between black and white other than the color and the texture difference on battery cover. Specifically:

Are they the same hardware versions with the same internal components from the same suppliers?

For the purpose of getting software updates, will they both get all updates at the same time (I don't want to pick the one that will get ICS later :) ).

thanks,
Osho

Same internals and hardware. The white variant probably has the lastest modem and kernel, but both will receive the same updates at the same time (though OTAs usually roll out slightly earlier or later depending on where you live). Though I personally love this phone, it may be wise to wait until the Mobile World Congress event at the end of next month where Samsung is sure to announce the Galaxy S 3 and it's likely release date. And if there is a simultaneous release date globally within the coming months, it might be wiser to postpone your upgrade because lord knows when the Epic Touch will receive an official ICS update.

From what I have read there is absolutely no difference between the white and black minus the color. I personally like the white only because every phone now days is black lol. But ya, I don't think there is the slightest difference at all.

There is a liitke difference. Ive owned the black version and picked up a white version Friday.

Although minor some of the stock Widgets are themed.

For example the Google Search Bar

Ok. I just picked up the white one myself after having owned the og black one the first 2 weeks it was out. I've been trying to see if anything was different....also in regards to an earlier post, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the s3 in the states.

That isn't a themed widget, it's just the latest version of the google search app available to all Android devices.

Oh ok...lol...my fault then. i get there really isnt a difference then. Also, I do think that the white version is a lot better looking.Whenever I pull it out, I got somebody asking me what type of phone that this.

I owned the black version for about 2 weeks and had to exchange for a new unit and ended up with the white one...

One thing i really do like about the white one over the black version is how the the bottom 4 dedicated buttons illuminate cleanly through the white panel. just my opinion really, but i believe that it's just overall more aesthetically plesant.
