Did you "settle" for this phone?

I saw this comment in the Gingerbread thread and it struck me:

The Infuse was introduced at a very awkward time, in my opinion. The Galaxy SII had been released in Korea and the UK and while America waited months and months for the American release, they somehow decided to release the Infuse. I'm not saying most Infuse owners were like me, but me definitely, settled for the Infused. In other words, it was me giving up the Galaxy SII because the contract was up and it was starting to waste months/time/energy to continue to wait without avail for the Galaxy SII.

I didn't want to hijack that thread, but it seems like people were waiting for the delayed SII, and other people were waiting for the delayed iPhone5 :chuckle:.

For me, I was waiting for the LG Thrill because I was convinced I needed a dual-core phone. The Infuse was my silver medal when I finally gave up waiting because the LG dual-core 3D phone was continually delayed for unknown lengths of time.

But this phone is really great. The screen size and clarity are amazing. I squint and get frustrated at my wife's tiny iPhone 4 which people rave about. How do they surf the web on that thing? The processing power is great, and the 4G is amazing. I have yet to see a phone released that I am jealous of.

How about you?

I think my previous statement summed it up pretty well: I would swap any day if AT&T offered me a free Galaxy SII, but in the real world where no such deals come my way, I am very much content with my phone.

I still do get those moments when I do wish I had just waited for the SII, like when Grand Theft Auto III that I purchased ran like a disabled racehorse, or when the phone lags or freezes now and then when I open up a few too many apps (which aren't that many anyways, thanks to my borderline OCD) - or most iconic, the Gingerbread update which is finally looming on the horizon which I wouldn't have been obsessing about if I had gone for the SII.

I don't regret my decision because at that time, the iPhone 4 was the other option and I am glad I did not go with that device. Like you said, the screen is way too cramped (albeit, credit is due with the Retina Display - it is quite amazing, but I think the color contrast on the Super AMOLED+ trumps it), it's made out of glass and is rather un-ergonomic for everyday use unless you have a case on it, and this is finally very personal but after using both OS's, I am glad I went with Android.

So yeah... I did settle for the Infuse, but so far, it didn't give me any major problems as far as getting done what I need to do on a day to day basis. But then again, if that's always all that's needed, then why do people ever bother upgrading their phones, right? I am still rather upset that the SII porting to the States took such a ridiculous amount of time. I don't think AT&T (or the other carriers) have any valid excuse - they ran not just a few months, but half a year late (if not longer).

The only device i want is the note now, and thank goodness im getting one! (att version) If you though the screen was good on the infuse, be ready to be wrong lol. Still love my infuse though, its awesome! I also settled for the infuse, as really, most people could have this thing and they would not need anything else (i need more lol, with school and such). Infuse paried with cm7, oh boy it creates a phone that compares to a GS2 (cm7 makes it feel like its dual-core in every aspect, literally!)

I did not settle for the Infuse. I needed a phone and chose the Infuse. I do not regret choosing it. And when I need a new phone I will choose from whatever is available. It is not tied to the end of my contract. It is based on whether the Infuse still meets my needs. If I know something is about to hit the stores I might wait a short time, but we are constantly chasing technology and I try not to get caught up in it.

I couldn't have said it any better. Technology changes by the minute. I still remember doing lots of reading back in January 2011 and finding out about the Infuse. When I bought mine in May, it was a thoroughly researched decision. It was precisely the phone I wanted. I even left my iPhone 3G behind for this switch. Not a day of regret here!

That's a really good point and that's the mantra I live by, especially for the technologically ever-changing world we live in, but I think for me (and other Infuse owners who "settled") had a unique case in that the Galaxy SII was already out for half a year.

I mean, it's one thing to know that the next super phone is coming out, but it's another thing to see on YouTube people in UK and Korea playing around with their new SII's and it being flaunted as the "best Android smartphone of the year" on many tech sites.

If that wasn't the case, I'd be totally unpeeved :( but unfortunately, it did feel like settling because I knew so much about the SII.

i wouldn't say i settled. i bought mine in ealry august last year. at the time it was the top of the line phone there. maybe the atrix was out....but i didn't want that phone.. anyway i got mine, refurb sale, plus early fee, so it was like $38, so at least the lower cost helped offset the pate higher data charges i'd be required to have.

it's a nice phone for sure. my friend got an ATT glaxy sII and you can tell that the sII is faster....but not a ton.

Yeah take it from a guy with a SII, the Infuse is sweet, my brother in-law has one , I mess with it all the time for him as he knows nothing about phones, but I love it myself. I wouldnt mind owning one at all. I thinks its pretty damn fast, way faster than my captivate was, with a lot less hiccups, and the huge display is flat out sweet. I think the only thing this phone got jerked out of, was bragging rights due to its untimely release.

Well, this is good to know as I should have my phone this coming tuesday...Can't wait for it. My choice came down to this phone vs. the S II Epic Galaxy for Sprint but I could not pass up the 1 cent deal with 20% off of my monthly bill every month with AT&T.

Yeah, you wont regret it at all. It's a really great phone.

Looking at the LG Thrill now, I'm glad it wasn't released on time. That 3D screen was a terrible gimmick.

Well, that's good to know too! I was never really into the 3D aspect of any phone, I would rather have that feature on my tv( if anything). That epic galaxy II for Sprint is a killer phone too but I decided to try our AT&T's network then Sprint. I currently have TMo and I have had problems with them from day one...well, that ends on Tuesday! :D

No way in hell did I settle for the Infuse....I felt that I really upgraded (Came from iPhone)

The Infuse is my first Android phone....I bought it in October the same day the 4S came out....I had every intention on buying the 4S until I talked to a dude at Best Buy and asked "Why do I want the iPhone again?) he simply answered (I don't know why do you?) Generally speaking I'd be renewing a contract and paying 200 bucks for essentially the same phone....

"But it's Dual Core!!!" So? was your single core iPhone that slow? Nope....

"But it has Siri!!!!" Cool...Google has had that feature for awhile now...and it's just a gimmick....

"What about iOS 5?" Yeah what about it? Does it make iTunes any easier to use? How about those ring tones?

"Retina Display?" SuperAmoledPlus!!!!! 4.5"......HDMI outputs to connect to your 65" TV.....what were you saying about Retina again?

So yeah....I definitely didn't settle for the Infuse....on top of that...there were more expensive "Dual Core" phones like the S II...but guess what I only paid 75 bux for this thing.....and the only thing I'm pissed about is my buddy is picking one up today for $1......

****ing AT&T!!!!!

If it makes you feel any better, I paid about $200 for mine.

Yeah, I paid $150 in August 11. It was $50 just a month or so later. Such is the way of technology.

On the bright side, I bought my tablet for $200 used in October and just sold it for $175. It's good to not be under contact with hardware.

What kind of Tablet was it?

I've got a 1st generation iPad...love it...but I can't believe I paid 400 even back then for a giant version of my iPhone which I replaced....

Would love to look into another tablet that can do much much more like my Infuse can for much much less...

Viewsonic gTablet. Really decent hardware specs, but bad screen, too heavy, terrible software, even with a ton of custom ROMs and xda support. I wouldn't cheap it and go with a major manufacturer and at least stock honeycomb.

I don't think I settled at all. About three weeks ago I'd lost my trusty Sony Ericsson w580i--I'd been using one of those for 3.5 years, and when my original one got too wet on a float trip last summer, I bought another one for cheap on ebay.

Although I was beyond due for an upgrade with AT&T, I was waiting for the IPhone5 that was expected to come out. Between the cost of a new phone and essentially doubling my monthly bill I didn't want to commit to just any new smartphone.

After losing my old phone, it was definitely time to get a new one. I went into Best Buy set on getting a 4S, just because I wanted an IPhone. The girl who helped me sold me on the Android market over the App Store, and then convinced me to go with either the Infuse or the SII (she even showed off her own personal Infuse). At the time, the SII was $199 and the Infuse was free. I knew the SII was the "latest and greatest," but the Infuse wasn't really that far off spec-wise, certainly not to the point where I'd notice since I'd never had a smartphone.

So I picked the free Infuse. The money I expected to spend on an IPhone, or even on an SII, instead went into Best Buy's Black Tie protection thingy so if I really wanted a SII, I could just break the Infuse and trade it in. I don't plan on doing that, because I really like what I've got so far with my Infuse.

I don't feel as if I settled. I was using a Captivate (that my wife has now), but was sucked right in by the 4.5 screen and the fact I could get it for a penny at Amazon!!! I have never regreted my decision. I am now running CM7 and loving it more everyday!!! However, I would jump all over a Note.....except that I am retired and $299.00 is way out of my price range.
