Root [XT912].::UNofficial::. Update to 6.12.173.xt912.verizon.en.us

**Non-Rooted, Still on 100% Stock Razr**

Updated last night. Quick hits that I've noticed is that the phone is noticeably faster and the minor lag I had seen when going from standby to normal use has almost disappeared in its entirety. Battery life seems to be better, although surfing the web still kills the battery mercilessly. Panorama mode is a nice addition to the camera and it seems to do better taking pics.

Will update as I go throughout the day.

**1/23/12**
Battery life is incredible in standby and wifi only modes (on wifi only, I've gotten nearly 16 hours off battery with moderate to heavy usage!). Data handoffs are superb. Smart Actions is still moody, only working when it feels like it, but when it does, it works flawlessly. The camera, while quicker, still leaves much to be desired quality wise. Only odd quirk I've noticed is that the screen locks up on me (i.e., screen becomes unresponsive) at random. So far this has happened 2x pre-update and once post update. Turning the screen off and back on seems to resolve the issue, but it's weird.

All in all, worth updating prior to official OTA.

1st of all FORGET about clockwork and boot strap or any of that garbage

This update works via factory update from the sd card.

Flash the phone back to stock with RSD. You do know we have those files now right? Takes only a few mins and your phone is just like it was the day you opened the box with the exception that all your presets and account(s) info will still be there, (unless you did a hard reset) but in any event it will cure all your ills and then you can update.

You can always flash back to stock and never miss a regular OTA update, with exception to the locked bootloader our phones are now an open playground, I would think a ROM developer would know these things but and I digress I don't know jack crap about ROMS yet I know all about how to flash these updates, so go figure huh? :D

More info here: Installing 6.12.173.xt912 - DroidRzr.com

For me these instructions are confusing. Im not rooted I have the zip file on my sd card what do I do? Thanks

I just checked in my apt, and the switch from 4G...which is amazing in itself to get in my apt, away from the windows at that.... to 3G was fine.

So far this update improved for me reception for both 3G, 4G and the switch from the different networks is fine. Hope this update gives others similar results. For me in a very bad reception area...this is nice. Averaging 200kbps down on speed tests....lol that should give some folks an idea of how bad the reception is in my apt.

It does not show the file when I go to update. I downloaded it and it is on the SD card (not in any folder), but when I go into restore and then update, the file is not shown. What am I doing wrong? Stock/non-root. Thanks.

I assume you mean recovery not restore. The zip file needs to be on the root of you SD card and just apply the update. If you can't fine it go into file manager and make sure its on top.

I updated, but besides the new prettier icons, I see no difference with the update (good or bad). There is still the magical mystery when using smart action to turn the radios off when screen is off, in regards to if data connects or not when the display is back on.

Seems the same to me, except for additional insane bloat that will be frozen, later this evening. I appreciate the hot spot issue was fixed, but I do not use it.

The ability to hold a 4g signal is much better. That is the only reason I upgraded to the unofficial leak. I was having problems with the phone constantly switching from 4g to 3g to Nog. The helped in a big way. I have solid 4g lock in places that were problematic before. I have had no problems with the leak. there is reportedly a problem with the search soft key, but I never use it.
