screen issue - maybe caused by soft keys?

so i got verizon to ship me a new phone and on the newer version, when i go to black screens such as the About Phone screen, i see that the bottom of the screen is lighter than the original phone i got. so my old GN the screen was more black and gradually turns to a lighter color. my new phone is showing the gradual change, but it's a lot lighter towards the bottom. i think the pics show it, left is new phone with more lighter color on the bottom and old is on the right. other than this, i think colors are ok b/c different colors such as reds and purples look the same on both phones. the other issue is that when i go into other menus such as text, the gray on the bottom that shows compose new message is slightly lighter than the old phone.

my question is, which is the better screen? or people with no banding (the original reason why i got a replacement) on their screen, is your screen lighter at the bottom or is it more black?

also, the newer phone, shows whites a little brighter on automatic brightness where the old one shows them a little grayer.

both phones are on automatic brightness

i read somewhere that maybe it's bc light from the soft keys are leaking into the screen? does anyone know if this is the case?

also, new phone shipped with 4.02, no download was given, and new phone also has baseband I515.10 and old phone has I515.09. what's the difference? both phones have EK05/EK02

Those are supposed to be like that. There is no light leakage - it's an AMOLED phone. There are no lights. The screen itself generates brightness and colors.

You're just seeing some variation between screens - the settings menus and such are SUPPOSED to be brighter on the bottom because the menus are designed to be like that. It's part of the color scheme. Also, since they're both on automatic brightness, it may just be that each light sensor has caused the screen to be a different brightness. Crank them both up to max and compare.

Nothing is wrong with either screen. Pick the one you like the best.

it's still very noticeable on max brightness. it's a shame samsung cant have a more consistent manufacturing process. does this occur across all amoled phones? where the screen varies for everyone manufactured?

What is very noticeable? The difference between the screens? Or the gradient where it's lighter on the bottom?

The gradient is normal.

All manufacturing has differences, but displays have a lot of inconsistencies. I don't know why it matters, though, because you'd only notice if you held one next to another. By itself, each screen is perfectly good - you only see that they're a little difference through close comparison.

everything is still noticeable. the new screen is still lighter at the bottom, therefore making the gradient more pronounced than the original phone that i got.

it matters b/c i paid good money for this and other people dont have this issue and i do

is there a reason why this is moved? the screen bleeding is not just a verizon issue. i feel that less people read the verizon forum and i'd like to get more responses to determine what is normal

The screen is not bleeding. The gradient is designed in. It's supposed to be there. It's not part of the screen, it's literally the color that Google made the settings menu background.

The screen itself is not lighter at the bottom - it's just a slightly brighter screen, overall, and thus the gradient is slightly brighter as well.

The point is that there is nothing wrong with either screen. Pick the one you like the best and send the other back. It's not an "issue" - it's a variation in screen brightness. It's impossible to tell from pictures whether yours is more or less bright than anyone else's because you can't make the exposure perfect.

The difference is barely noticeable, and would be completely unnoticeable if you didn't have a second phone sitting right next to the first one.

You're looking for an issue where there is none. Pick one, send the other back, and be happy.

The screens in the gnex vary. I've seen 4 and none of them look exactly the same. I actually got lucky and prefer mine to the other 3. It's not as bright as one of them, but the colors are warmer and more accurate to my eyes. I believe this is all just manufacturer variance in the OLED technology. Just like with TV's. Ever had one professionally calibrated? I have and there is not one like the other they are all different. I'd just keep the one you like best. It's more like "which one is better to you and your eyes"?

Looks like the phone on the right has more of the purple tint, i bet if you lowered brightness on both phones the one on right will show grays as purple?

To me I would keep the phone on the left. I have been through 3 models all have different screens.
