Multimedia Dock

I just got a DROID 3 about a week ago and love it. So I purchased a multimedia dock online, and received it yesterday. It is the OEM Motorola dock. The phone will not fit on the dock. I have tried with the case on, and off. I have also tried with the little insert for the case on and off the dock, however it just will not dock on the darn thing. It seem like it is the HDMI port that is doing it. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Just to cover the obvious.

Are you sure you bought a Droid 3 dock, and not a Droid X2 or some other phone? The power/HDMI are in the same place, but obviously the phone will not fit in the other docks.

edit-
Also make you are trying to put it at the right angle. I had a little trouble getting mine in the dock the first time, then I got used to the angle.

Yes return it and get basically the same phone except 4g and more ram but no removable battery and no global capabilities. Anyway, the HDMI is notorious for causing issues with the phone docking so much to the point that people have literally taken pliers to the HDMI insert (make sure it is the HDMI and not the USB!) and ripped it out. After this "mod" the dock is supposed to work great... I really don't see the point of the HDMI port in the dock honestly, I cant imagine where you would ever use it. Now, having in the car dock would make sense so people with touchscreens and rear LCD screens could watch Netflix while on a long car ride. I've seen a few industrious users modify the car dock to do just this very thing actually.

This sounds awesome. Not that my '03 CR-V sports any of these abilities, but is there a build log somewhere that showcases how this is done? I'd love to see it.

And I agree, wait for, and get the D4.

Funny you should mention an 03 crv. I had a 02 crv until recently and I had my dx car dock in the driver's windshield corner with a dedicated DC charger ran down behind the pillar and behind the dash plus a 3.5mm audio in to the back of the aftermarket touchscreen. The dx sucks for HDMI out compared to the newer phones and I will have to dig up that thread on how to do the hdmi install on a car dock.

Also, installing an aftermarket headunit into a 02-06 crv is literally the EASIEST install ever. 2 easily accessible screws and pull on the bezel to get at the stereo. I did a writeup on crvownersclub last year on how to make an aftermarket HU look basically stock in those things.

And I still disagree about the d4 being worth it unless you absolutely must have 4g with a QWERTY. I really do wish we had more options though. Before the d3, the only decent QWERTY keyboard that vzw had was the ally. The of Droid and d2 keyboards are ridiculously too small and no dedicated number row=fail. Sprint had the Epic 4g forever ago and THAT keyboard is completely boss.
