Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in mid January

I dont own an Acer yet but I am looking at them since BestBuy is having them for Black friday. I forget why I initially decided not to go with the Acer.. sure I will remember.

I am enjoying playing with my Kindle Fire but with no SD slot and no bluetooth, I am about to unroot it, then do a Factory Data Reset and give it as a gift for Christmas and get something that will run ICS.

Funny, with ICS running I may not have to even root the Acer, since the biggest reason I have been rooting my android devices is to try and get the VPN working for Cisco /pure IP Sec connections.

So that announcement makes it more likely I will pick up an Acer very soon. :D

i too want to pick this tablet up, but i hear that it has really horrible battery. do you think ICS will help to improve battery life?

I really hope it does. Although battery isn't as great as other 7 " tablet, with proper setting and disabling wifi when your not surfing makes a difference. I have an older Samsung Gtab 7 and although it has longer lasting battery I have to max out the cpu to get it to perform faster which in turn wastes more battery and it becomes almost like the acer. IMO though if you can get it for $250 or less its worth it. Preferably an online store where you don't get taxed.

Battery life on mine is doing better than the Coby. I read for a couple of hours a night.

Somehow, I don't think ICS will let you get rid of built in bloat. The big thing would be better use of the SD card. I finally figured out how to point FB Reader to the books on the card. FB reader will bookmark from there. Aldiko would want to import the book to automatically open page.

I still would like to read more about what ICS is expected to do.

where's the ambiant lighting setting?

or do you mean to say you turn the brightness down?

and I call BULSHIT on your tn hour claim. this guy cant sleep for ten hours!

He is correct on the ten hours. I use mine daily and depending on what I am doing, I seldom have to charge the battery more than once every three days or so. On days where it gets a lot of use, I have made it up to and beyond ten hours. On standby, the a500 can run for over a week without a charge. If yours is not matching ours, then an app or apps is sucking your battery dry. Go into your settings and check battery useage to see whats doing it. Like on any tablet, turn off features your not using at the time such as GPS and bluetooth. You should get decent battery life like the rest of us.

Anyone heard anything about a new release date? I've been searching daily and coming up empty handed.

XDA reported that the A200 got the update, and have speculated that the 500 is next. So I'm guessing it's trickling down eventually to us A100 owners.

Also according to their post, there are apparently a few A500 owners who've managed to get a modified version of the A200 Honeycomb update ROM to boot on their tablets; so I suppose if you're REALLY jonesing for some ICS goodness, you could TRY booting the A200 ICS ROM on an A100.

If you do, don't forget to post results!! :D
