Curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded and installed it. If we are going to hold speed tests as proof of a change in speed then the update doubled mine!

Truth is they simply made, what was one bar signal graphically now show two bars. The signal is neither better or worse. I know I won't convince anyone. Believe what you want but my speeds are basically the same. Well I did get twice the speed I normally do in my house so maybe they gave me the speed lost by the others. Thanks hehe.

ok.. solved my hotspot problem.... it was the power management on both the phone and the tablet! I finally turned off the sleep/night mode on the phone. For a moment the hotspot works only when i'm looking/toying with the phone (when the screen is on). Also plugged in the power into my tablet so that wifi's power mgmt won't kick in while looking at the screen when running speedtest on the tablet (silly me - i wasn't touching the screen to keep it active!). Before this it sometimes will not complete the test but will time-out/stall. Now the hotspot and speedtest are both working fine with the tablet. If you can read this message, the hotspot is still working fine even though I'm slowly typing on the tablet :) bye.

I did Speed Test last night after the update and got less than .5Mbps upload and download. Slooooowww. Same thing this morning. On the other hand, WiFi still cranks and the phone feels a tad snappier. I'm on the fringe of a 4G area so I'm curious to see if this update will "pull" the 4G signal better.

UPDATE - Interesting. It seems the update downloaded last night but did not install. Turned on the phone this morning and it said 2:45m until the update installs. When the countdown hit zero, nothing happened. Phone software is still at level .6. I wonder if installing the Amon Ra recovery prevents the update.

I received the update last night. My location in my work office is teerible for data and call reception. Thus I wouls easily lose 10% or more and hour of battery life. Today I only lost about 5 percent under the same use. It is easily the best battery performance I have ever gotten at work. I realize it is only one day but I can't complain.

One additional note about signal strength that is independent of this OTA. I've found when I keep my phone on CDMA only I'm getting 1X. Alot. As I mentioned earlier I'm not in the best location in the world where I work. When I switch to 4G I never get dropped to 1X (or if it has, I haven't seen it yet). 4G drains the battery faster but since I'm using the 2750 mah extended it doesn't matter. Right now I'm at 82% after four hours. I've used the phone for 49 minutes and I have quite a bit of email syncing going on (four accounts every thirty minutes). In any case, I used to never use 4G but now I pretty much use it exclusively when not on wifi as it appears more reliable. Speed test ~ 10,000 kbps. BTW, notice how your signal strength goes up when the phone is sitting flat vs. how it is in hand?

Welp...I did the update and then tested from the exact same spot, then borrowed my coworkers rezound that has NOT been updated. Mine is on the Left, hers is on the right. notice the speed differences. To confirm it was updated, notice the 5 bar 4G and 4 bar 4G signals bars.

I hope you killed all tasks that may have been running in the background for both phones.....

Were the phones lying flat or was one or both held? BTW, you got results (it seems as the photo isn't crystal clear) from four days back and don't seem outta line with today.

They were both laying flat on a table right next to each other the same way you see it in the picture. The previous tests are from all over my area, home etc. I get my fastest speeds in my break room at work rather than anywhere else. haha

I hope you killed all tasks that may have been running in the background for both phones.....

I didn't but mine (left) was from a fresh install and reboot...so if anything the phone on the right would have been running more.

The phone on the left has location services on....were you both pinging the same server? I think I see a figure reflected from a grassy knoll on the phone on the right!

We were pinging the same server...made sure of it.

I'm shocked anyone is using Speed Test results as a reliable before/after performance metric at all.

My speed test results are all over the place, always have been since day one, ranging anywhere from 8 all the way up to 22. It would seem completely normal to me to see variances of a few Mbps anytime I run a test, so I wouldn't think to use that as a hard fast gauge of post-update download speed perfromance. Maybe that's unique to my location, and everyone else always sees just about the same speeds everytime they test, I dunno.

Seems like there's so many variables, even beyond my control, that so long as it's relatively fast and isn't preventing me from accessing whatever content I want and/or isn't slowing me down, I'm not sure I really care if it's 15 down one day and 11 the next.

Speed Test might be useful to gain trend data over periods of time and different locations/conditions, but I'm not sure I'd treat it is a diagnostic tool so much given the myriad variables in the network itself.

Oh, also: mine updated just fine, and I've noticed no real difference of any kind in terms of usability. Speeds seem within the same range of "normal" as they did prior to the update.
