Anyone get the EL30 update yet?

Looking for advice. I got the EL30 update pushed to my Samsung Epic 4G this morning from Sprint. I've seen a lot of people saying they can't receive calls and am scared to allow the update. So my conundrum is:

A) Is a minority of people having a problem and posting because they have problems and I should go ahead with the update?
B) There's really a problem. How do I get the update to go away and stop coming up on my screen?

I got the update night before last - went to work yesterday morn with a broke phone - kept throwing force close, wallpaper wouldn't scroll, nothing wanted to respond at all. figured out that if i waited forever after each step, i could, in between errors, go into settings/applications/all and clear data on launcherpro and launcher. uninstalled launcherpro - rebooted - then downloaded the "clean" sprintid. bunches of reboots - works fine now. will mess with putting launcherpro back on this weekend.

What is the "clean" sprintid? Also, I don't think I have launcherpro. I'm debating whether I should accept the update or not.

slide red button to left to ignore, green button to right to answer.

there is a menu benaeth the two to ignore with text.

i still don't like it.

Oh great... doesn't help us people with red/green color deficiency.. I didn't even know they were two colors !!! And my callerid used to have photo's from day one. It would show the little droid dude when there wasn't a photo which was an easy way from a distance, even without glasses, to know if it's someone I know calling me.

Looking for a DISLIKE button.

After I recived the update two days ago my phone was running strange force closes on things apps not responding right, I did a hard reset thinking all was good. After redownloading my apps(only 12) my phone is giving a low memory warning.... but I still have plenty of space I only use one app at a time(two if playing music and like checking facebook or something) but making sure to close out of them...so any idea what the deal could be...oh and I now tend to fall in to roaming more but live in a great coverage area. -_-

The photos are still there for me, but I set those up in my gmail contacts list, so maybe that's what's different?

I have CleanGB; which is fantastic! It was my first time ever rooting and flashing a ROM, and I had been wondering if I would receive update notices, and what to do if I did.

Now, my phone is nagging me about this update. I created a backup...

Should I install or ignore? If I ignore, can I get rid of the annoying notice?

Installed, only problems: phone info still says gingerbread el20 (but it is updated to el30)
Had to restart only once because it kept hanging up on calls (apparently didn't refresh phone app on software resart) now no problems
Wallpaper will not scroll :( think there is an option to renable that... had to do with the battery and animations. So could be it was reset to not scroll
Keyboard is fast! Not as many missing letters! (Wpm too fast...heh)
Not a huge fan of the phone answering menu, but considering I don't send to text often it makes more sence functionality wise.
And when did we start being able to web surf during a call? O.0 was that the first gb and I didn't notice?

anyone having battery issues since the update? the last 3 days my battery has had the low battery warning by the time i get home from work (7:00) typically i didn't get this till around 10:00 at night. first day i figured it was because i had traveled that day and the phone didn't have a signal, but the last two days i've been in the office as normal and its just burning through battery. i've restarted it. still burning through battery. the phone is warm too, but singal is fine.

Found this update on the Sprint website, hopefully it will help some of you having the answer calls issues.

"1/26 update:
If a force close error is displayed when you receive an incoming call, ensure the "reject call with message"
set up includes no more than 5 messages. To access these settings, go to
Menu > Settings > Call settings > Reject with message, choose the menu key and select 'delete', check
the box next to each message to be deleted and select 'delete' again. "

I found this in another thread, and it helped with the call crashing problem. In case anyone here needs this fix, please use this. It worked for me~ (So excited that calls now stopped crashing!)

Over on the Sprint forums, they've posted a fix for this without needing a reset: Go into Menu -> Settings -> Call settings -> Reject with message. If you have more than 5 messages in there, delete some so you have less than 5.

People are reporting that once they do that, they are once again able to receive calls without the force close happening. Hope that helps!

I don't know how to reactivate the wallpaper to scroll again though. Mine is still stuck.

Edit: Aww shoot, Master_PR posted a minute before me! Hahaha :3

I received the update last Thursday morning and I have had no problems at all yet. The last update seemed to slow my phone down a bit but now I have noticed everything working a bit better even my wifi working better also my battery lasting a bit longer than it was before. I was scared to update after seeing some people had issues but luckily none here.

I received my phone a bit before Christmas of 2010 if that helps track how they are being rolled out.

I did the update on my Epic 4g w/keyboard. MINE WORKS PERFECTLY. I wasnt going to do it because of everyone not being able to accept calls and due to my past experience with the gingerbread update that crashed my phone and it had to be reset. With the gingerbread update, my phone freezes up almost everday and I have to take battery off. So I figured what the heck, might as well try. Well it worked perfectly, no more freezes on my phone and I love the new look to answer calls. So, if ya already have the gingerbread on your phone, the new update shouldn't hurt ya. but not sure if ya never update your phones. I say, stay with the updates. NOW IF YA CANNOT ANSWER CALLS, TRY THIS...I know this sounds crazy and I dont know why this works, so before ya go reset your phones it can't hurt to try. Ok go to Menu, Settings, Call Settings and click Reject with Message and create new reject message. And DO NOT keep any more than 5 messages on there. Keep 5 or LESS. To delete the other one, click menu then delete and click the ones to delete. Good luck and please let me know if this worked for ya that couldnt recieve calls?????

There was a Sprint rep at work the other day (employer has a booth where different vendors offer deals for employees). I asked the rep about the update and he swore he hadn't heard of anyone having any problems with it. (And claims he's the head of the repair dept at one of the downtown Sprint stores). Not sure how much of that is company line.

OTOH he swears that the majority of problems he sees on phones are caused by Lookout. Stood in the employee both imploring me to remove it. (And then replace it with some Sprint specific app). This came up when I mentioned that I had enough probs w/ the gps and didn't need more issues.

So far I haven't 1) installed the new update that the phone periodically nags me about or 2) uninstalled Outlook.

Just wondering about folks' comments on this gentleman's comments?
