[Verizon] [KERNEL][4.0.4] Franco M4 & Nightlies (6/5)

Good to know this works. I've seen some say to flash the reset kernel then let your phone boot up. Much quicker to flash back to back as long as it works. Gracias mi hermano!

update on #15. So far soooooo good :)

So I killed the battery, cleared data in setcpu, booted to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, flashed reset kernel then Franco 13.1...

Here is what I notice by flashing the reset kernel to make sure ram disk is accurate...the battery charges slower and the phone is not hot during charging. I have the phone on conservative 350/9200 no modded UV, no hotplug enabled. The phone is screaming fast and just feels soooo fluid. Thought I would share. I am going to stick with this kernel until next Monday just to do it justice and download some others to put in the queue.

Will report batt life soon!

13.1 really is a special kernel imo if one can call a kernel special :p just look at BB's and my battery tests!

Kind of like 1.2.1 & 1.6.6 exp versions by imoseyon.

With kernels newer is definitely not always better.

Too early to say about 15, but the 2 new governors based off conservative are really interesting and quite different from one another. 15 is overall snappier than 13.1 especially on the gazelle gov. Battery life...I'll judge by Thur this week!

Hey guys, I know that 15 just came out yesterday, but what is everyone using for their governor? Specifically with the "turtle" and "gazelle" options. It first booted into turtle and it is definitely noticeable faster that the latest imyosen I was running before. Looking forward to seeing battery life going forward.

I'm using francoturtle (names crack me up btw :p). And I've slid my max slider down to 1000MHz. I leave min at 700MHz. This is what I use (so does franco), you'll have to play with it over a few days and see what suits you best.

I need clarification on the cpu1 off when phone is sleeping, WHich governor are we suppose to choose in Set CPU so that the cpu1 is off while phone is sleeping to have awesome battery life? do we HAVE to buy the market app to enable that feature?

Hotplugging will work on all governors on this kernel. So choose the governor you want then follow instructions in the OP. Android Terminal is the app I recommend using to enabling hotplugging manually, but you could use franco's app or make an init.d script. If you want the simplest method I'd support the dev and buy his app :)

Loving this kernel, but just installed 15 today and it replaced my boot animation with a Franco Kernel one. I didn't see any warning about this before installing; has anyone else run into this? Is this going to happen with all future updates?

edit: Oy, it replaced the one on system/media rather than putting itself in /data/local, too. Not happy about this at all.

No he got a lot of user feedback to make the boot ani an option in future builds. I listed this in the OP: Note: #15 comes with a custom boot animation if you don't want it then put your preferred animation to /data/local instead of /system/media :)

15.1 will break today and the boot ani will either be removed or he'll have an optional dnld w/o it.

Updated to 15.2

With these revisions coming so fast it only makes sense to conclude there are several new features, bells, & whistles being thrown in. Just know that we, the people, are the testers and if you have issues revert to what worked best for you.

Having said that, within the last month, 13.1 is the best kernel to date by franco imo. It is the best kernel for my phone with AOKP.

I keep hearing that. Is there a link to download it?

I'll either do a 13.1 or this 15.2.

BTW, are there any real differences between 15 and 15.2? since 15.1 seemed to flop.

I didn't try 15.2 yet. I did try 15 and 15.1. I just wasn't feelin' it in my gut and I trust me gut! I am not liking the way 14's and 15's scale through the frequencies and I've had some odd glitches I've never seen before in previous versions

13.1 is in the 1st post in this thread

Haha that is sweet! How ya been jmar :)

So I just woke up, from a "dead sleep" as I often call it, on my couch with SportsCenter going on the television. Life is getting better all the time. I have the day off so I get to chill with my boy while the wife helps out at her sister's house. We are feeling blessed and that, my friends, is all the difference!

Hey guys, when I was running InteractiveX with Imosyen's kernel, it was advised to use NO profiles. Is that the same case with Franco's? I'm using the "turtle" governor and generally have a screen off underclock setting. Should that be okay?

I think you should do what you want, but just know franco adamantly opposes using any kind of screen off profiles. Your phone already has a built in one and these custom kernels are way different than the ones of old on older phones that we were all so used to. Test it and see what you think :)

I am on 15.2 right now. I am running 1000/350 turtle w/ hot plug enabled using Franco's App! Darn kernels come out so fast and I give in to my crack flash addiction! I still have 13.1 on standby but I am liking the new governors.

I'm just curious. Why is the newest kernel set at 700mhz min and not 350mhz? Wont battery be worse like this?

Not sure how to answer that but at least we can set it to what we want...speaking of which...for those of you using the Franco App...are you using it to set clock speed and governor? Or are you still using SetCPU?

I am using Franco's App, fwiw.

Did the latest update to the app break this for you? I can make changes, but they never seem to be actually applied.
