Yeah, it works. It's kind of hit and miss. You have to hold your hand really still in order to make it work. It needs internet though.

if you point ur galaxy y to a star, does ur google sky map tell you what it is? i want to know whether galaxy y has magnetometer or not, some people say that it has no magnetometer. and sky map is to be used manually. please tell whether u have magnetometer for using sky map efficiently (pointing at a star).

Yes it does, I've never used it on manual. It's sometimes a bit jumpy but it works better outside. It's a brilliant app, as I never had a clue what the stars were called. It even shows you which stars are out of sight below the horizon and in the other hemisphere!

If you want to locate something it will show you where it is too.

I'm a new Android user. Just got my SGY 2 weeks ago. I haven't rooted mine but have updated to the latest firmware.

I have an 8gb SD card and still 83MB free in my SGY. I have deleted other apps and games because the phone was running slow when there was only 45MB left. So far, I'm happy with it.
