My Life's quality has degraded noticeably since the Galaxy S 2 came into my life

Anybody else find this phone to be an utter #%@*!en piece of &*@!ing #%^@?

What a gem on paper. What a horror show in reality it has been. Totally stock and fully patched it just can't handle the role of smartphone. e.g.

* can't read already read emails from the gmail client or other client when offline. But some you can. Then you can't the next day. Demonstrated this to numerous people to their disbelief.

* Constantly fails to connect with wifi, 3G, and 4G networks.

* Predictive text is a total fail, particularly as compared with the Evo 4G.

* Batter life is nominally good, but the device is constantly going into some mode where it gets very hot and drains battery like it ran aground. Dead-tired of researching dead-end threads and theories on this issue.

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. I'm having exactly the opposite experience with my phone. I will say that I was having some service related issues because I live(d) in one of Sprints very weak coverage areas...past tense, since Sprint apparently put some more towers into service and my service has improved dramatically in the past few months.

The hot battery is usually a give-away that you are spending time in a very weak or dead coverage area. That causes the radio to go on a non-stop, frantic search for a tower to lock on to, which thrashes the phone so much you can literally feel the heat it's giving off. I found the heat signature so realiable, that I could tell when my phone had lost signal or had a very weak signal just by the amount of heat it would start radiating.

That or you have a bad phone. If your signal is good, you need to get this thing back to Sprint and have them check it out.

One thing I've started doing with my Android devices when I first get them, is factory reset. I had forgot to do this on my E4GT back in September (I think that was the month I got it). After a couple of weeks I had a massive battery drain issue, with the phone sitting there and the Android OS or system (can't recall which but known problem at the time) running at around 60-70%. I went ahead and did a factory reset that night, and I haven't had any issues since. I just find it sometimes eliminates issues to make sure you are starting out with a nice, clean image. You might as well give the factory reset a shot too, since that will be one of the first things a repair technician is going to attempt.

At radio shack tonight, the manager said he called Sprint and did this and it made all the difference to his phone.

I agree, I went to this POS from the EVO. It's like bringing a BUTTER KNIFE to a war. Battery life on mine is fine. That was my only complaint about the EVO. But this SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 EPIC 4G TOUCH...thats a whole new story. Hell, even the damn name is too long! My main problem is the email. It seems every week or two i stop getting work emails. As a realtor, i need my email. i ususally just ask a co worker for the EXCHANGE SERVER and i enter that and it works again, but i shouldnt have to do that. Now what? go to sprint and tell them to exchange it for a new one? YEEEAAAAHHHH like that will work, and even if it does, i'll then have to spend HOURS setting the damn phone up like i want it...GEEEEEZ.

find me a cliff....i wanna jump, or at least toss this garbage phone off!

I think I know your problem about the email. The phone has a power saving mode and when it is activated when you battery gets to a certain percentage it turns off auto sync for emails and all that stuff. But if you go in setting and turn it off that should solve your problem. I believe that's what it is.:)

So, has no one experienced this bizarre issue I have where the email (stock gmail and stock "email" clients) don't show some (or most) of the previously loaded and viewed email messages?

I mean, it's just crazy that when I go into a subway I can no longer access my email. With K-9 mail it's fine. Many have asked about the possibility of this being an imap, headers-only issue, but this is not the case as some emails are loaded and visible off-line, but then others (again, previously loaded and viewed) are no longer visible. Then they are, later on.

I think I'm going to try some ROM's and hope for the best.

Not sure what phone you have because it can't possibly the same one I use. I love this phone. I've owned numerous phones and this is by far my favorite. The screen size and amoled, the keyboard, customization, stock UI, etc. it's all very good.

I have some complaints but most are not related to the actual phone as the applications built for it just need to be tweaked FOR this phone. I have no issues with 3g, 4g, or wifi and GPS seems to be quicker than it was before with EL29 update.

Sorry to hear you are having such terrible luck with your phone.

I don't think it has anything to do with the phone itself. I'm experiencing similar weird Gmail behavior on my Asus Transformer Prime, which is upgraded to ICS. Sometimes I go in to Gmail and there is my folders, but nothing in the Inbox. Sometimes my screen just goes dark. The fix so far for me, is to arrow back out of Gmail, make sure it is background closed, and then reopen it. Fortunately with ICS closing it is as simple as a swipe on the screen. Gmail is my primary personal email so I hope this gets fixed soon.

Best phone ever. I'd let it marry my daughter but she's gotta up her game to be worthy.

That's funny right there. I don't care who you are, that's funny right there. (spoken in the voice of Larry the Cable Guy). :)

Root your phones!!!! All phones have their freaking issues, that is why we root. I hated this phone when I got it, but loved it after I rooted it. Now I am running my own rom, my own theme, and its freaking awesome.

Look on XDA for more info.

This person is 100% right although I never had problems with this phone even when it was not rooted my evo 4g would reboot all the time and lag out I almost sold it and went Iphone but then I heard about rooting and custom roms and I rooted it. It solved all my problems. No more reboots and it ran allot smoother. Almost like a completely different phone! Damn near doubled my battery life too!

Just to be clear, when you speak of rooting and solving all of your phones problems, you're speaking of the EVO 4G at that point, correct? I infer that from your original statement that you never had problems with the Epic 4G Touch.
