Root RUU for 2.01.601.11

Why? You can always RUU back to the old version and manually update.

how can you do that? hboot 2.11 will not allow 1.02.605.6 with hboot 2.10 to flash. you can install the system/boot/recovery images, but in a jam you may not be able to do that.

i agree its prolly not likely to need an RUU with the s-on bootloader, but in an absolute worse case scenario where you have to relock and flash a whole stock RUU,there is not one that will work if you have accepted the OTA.

i always like to have RUUs for the current firmware on standby on my PC for peace of mind ;)

I was under the impression you just use the mainver magic trick

that will let you downgrade to older boot/system/recovery images without having to edit the android info text document. but it will NOT let you downgrade a whole RUU. the newer bootloader will still prevent it from downgrading the hboot and radio.

i did try,for S&Gs,to downgrade in the following manner:
-made sure main version in the misc image was 1.02.605.6
-relocked bootloader. when it rebooted,it saw that i was not running 2.01.605.11,and locked up with a security warning
-booted from fastboot to RUU mode.
-ran the 13.02.605.6 .exe RUU onthe PC. for a few minutes it looked like it might actually work, but then failed as expected.
-ran "fastboot reboot-bootloader" to get back out of RUU mode.

it was at this point that my phone could have been softbricked until the 2.01.605.11 RUU came out. luckily, i was able to unlock my hboot again, wich factory reset and rebooted my ICS rom. if the unlock hadnt worked becasue of the security warning,i would have been up a creek without a paddle,so to speak ;)

done similar with an s-on evo 3d,but always had a failsafe ruu to run after,so i had never tried to immedately re-unlock. wasnt quite sure what would happen, lol

so you updated to the 2.01.605.11 OTA update, giving you the new mainver. and new hboot more importantly.
then changed ur mainver back down to 1.02.605.6 to accept the OTA, and it didn't work?
Just trying to make sure I understand. I've been wanting to try this.

that is correct sir. ive tried it,and variations of it on an evo 3d so i was 99% sure it wouldnt work, but figured it was worth trying on the rezound anyway. ;) gone,im afraid, are the days of fooling an s-on hboot into downgrading by simply changing the main version number in the misc image :(

there are too many checks being done. the radio(i believe) is checking for a signed hboot, and bricks the phone if it doesnt find it. only hopes of a downgrade are figuring out some way to change the hboot and radio out as a pair, assuming the signed s-off hboot available now has a matching radio. or a different radio could be patched to not check for signitures. but then youd still be stuck with that radio

*sigh*

i really wish the xtc clip would support it,as i think a radio s-off is the only way these newer phones will be able to function :(

thanks for the link, downloading now

In order to make this work on my rooted/unlocked phone, correct me if I'm wrong but I ~think~ I need to
Re-flash stock recovery
Re-lock phone
Flash RUU

This should get me the OTA.
Then I will un-lock
Re-root
and all is well...

Does that pretty much cover it?

actually, the 2.01.605.11 IS the OTA,and you dont need the stock recovery to get the RUU to work,so technically all you need to do is:
-relock
-run RUU
-re-unlock
-permanently or temorarily flash your recovery and reroot

id prolly sugest that you dont permanently flash the recovery this time. that way when the next OTA rolls, you can just take it and not have to deal with all this again :)

Thanks for your help.

I relocked bootloader no problem.
Unable to run RUU. Getting an error message!
I downloaded RUU from the link provided by Andybones. Is there perhaps another better link?

To run the RUU (just making sure I'm doing it right). Connect phone to PC via USB, set to charge only then run the exe file correct?

This is the error I get: "Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications."

If you're on Windows 7, run the RUU as admin. Also make sure HTCSync is not running, etc etc. Maybe reboot Windows and try again. That sounds like a Windows error, not an RUU error.

andys link is to the RUU in footballs folder,it wont get too much better than that.

I used a link over at XDA to get the RUU.
Ran the EXE as an administrator. The RUU won't connect to my device.
Yes I have it plugged in.
Yes I have USB debugging connected.
No HTC isn't running on my PC.

I dunno. Frustrated. Doesn't help I'm not feeling well...

How far does the progress bar get before it craps out with the message you posted? What's the last message you see on the RUU dialog? Do you get the RUU dialog at all?

anyone see an RUU for the newest update? ive been watching footballs folder and havent seen it yet. now that im on hboot 2.11 it makes me a lil nervous to mod things without an RUU to run as a relock/last resort ;)

Thats a good point! I never thought of it like that.

Although you cannot restore hboot, radio, etc you can flash boot.img and system.img via PH98IMG.zip with a matching android-info.txt. This I am sure of. So you would not have been stuck if worse case scenario happened :D

Use Dev-Host.org. I use them to mirror my ROMS when my site is having difficulties. No throttle up and down, woot!

Do this....

Open a command prompt and type "adb devices" and tell me what it says. This is assuming you are already in a folder with ADB.

now that i know i can unlock if i for some reason try and relock and get stuck in bootloader,i agree there arent many situations where you couldnt just restore the boot/system/recovery. i have,in fact made up some "mini-RUUs" containing just those. just in case i need to get back to stock without having to fool with relocking and running the full RUU. ill upload them somewhere in case any one else wants them as well. :)

cool, ill check out! ive got a bunch of thunderbolt big files that need relocated, thanks to stupid megaupload

last and not least, here is the PH98IMG extracted form this full RUU:
Get RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1123r_3161E_9K_QMR_release_233635_signed.zip on Wupload.com

i actually had "couldnt connect to dervice" errors also with the .exe, but didnt think too much about it since i had some other windows open. it may be that there is an error with the .exe file.

you can download the above, lock, and rename to PH98IMG and flash in hboot.

or you can flash it in fastboot with this guide: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/480350-easier-way-flash-pg05img-files.html (yes thats in the thunderbolt forum but it works for all HTC phones :))

Thanks for the help.

I'm usually not this much of an idiot but I had a stomach bug all day...felt like absolute garbage. Much better today.

I didn't realize at first the RUU had to be run under Win 7 as "administrator. Got that part and opened the RUU successfully. When the RUU EXE tried to connect to my device, it was unable to do so. (I've had my device connected to my PC many times so I don't think there is anything I'm doing differently). Connected via USB, USB Debugging on etc.

Ran the CMD prompt in ADB and get this message:
adb server is out of date. Killing...
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
HT1A2S206797 device

So I think that's telling me I'm connected OK.

~feels~ like I'm just running the RUU wrong somehow. Do ALL other windows need to be closed? I am running it as an admin, I cannot think of anything else that is preventing the RUU from connecting to my device.

1. so you've had an issue connecting to your device as well? weird!
2. Do ALL other windows need to be closed to get the RUU to run properly?
3. Entirely possible there is an error with the .EXE.

you can download the above, lock, and rename to PH98IMG and flash in hboot.

I am going to flash it in fastboot. Seems easier than what I used to do (pop out the SD card, use PC to move it to root of SD card then reboot). Plus, with my old DINC you could get the SD card in and out without having to remove the back. A minor annoyance on the Rez, but being able to flash in Fastboot makes it a non factor.

Again, thanks for all your help. I hope I can get this thing fixed (58% downloaded!!)

Scotty tried your fastboot method which seems really cool.

Got to the command line to flash the RUU and got the error message: error: Cannot load 'PH98IMG.zip'
Broke down and loaded the .zip to the root of my SD card
booted into Hboot/recovery and attempted to run the update
got the triangle/exclamation point error; VOL up + pwr into HBOOT and saw the following error listed:
e: can't open /cache/recovery/command

this one is beyond me to understand.in the past, every time I've updated by putting the img on the SD card it has worked. For some reason, this time it just...ain't...working!

You thornev and Scrosler have really have been supportive on this and I very much appreciate it. It shouldn't be this hard and I feel that it's prolly something I'm doing wrong...I just don't know what.

Did you put ph98img into the same folder as adb/fastboot? That error comes from the file not being present in the same folder as.fastboot. also make sure you added ".zip" to the command line. Make sure you have changed to your adb directory.

As for hboot, you dont use recovery to.install. hboot should find the file and ask you to update.

Dude...total user error (but not what you might think).

When I renamed the file to PH98IMG it got an extra ".zip" appended to the file name. I checked the properties of the file, noticed that and fixed it and the fastboot method worked great. I now have the OTA (5 bar radio signal and proper software version number). Easy to now go in, unlock and re-root.
