Message threads?

Can some explain in detail how the message threads work?
I create a new message and it logs it in what ever thread was last.
If I reply using messages sometimes it sends to wrong person.

Example:
I txtd person#1
then person #2 txtd me.
opening messages I replied to person #2
but it went to person #1.
my only guess is it goes to whom ever created the thread.
very bad app. still trying to figure this out???

Like how to reply to the correct person and whom its going to. in threads??

maybe try ChompSMS or Handcent. You might like those better.

Your contact list might be jacked up.

Did you have the contact list imported from another phone at Verizon's store?

Strange reply-to things happening there. I've never heard of this. You can SMS an e-mail address, and the other way around, though.

I find it peculiar that the messages are going to others though. Very odd. I'd take it to Verizon and just show them what happens, as you do it. I've never seen this.

oddly enough I am having the same problem. When my mom sends me a txt it comes through, then when my daughter sends one it sticks it in my moms thread. only does it to a few addresses. I haven't figured out why it does that though, makes no sense. I did a factory hard reset and it didn't fix it. BTW it does it on chompsms and handcent. It's very irritating

so I think your right it has something to do with contact list, BUT I made my contact list from scratch when I got my phone then exported it to my wife's gmail and she has no problems. Maybe I'll just take her phone LOL yea right. Guess caddyman is out this weekend????

Open the contact list, and open your daughter and your wife.

Make sure either of them don't have TWO phone numbers attached to their name.

I had this happen, now that I think about it one time, with my Mom calling from both her and my Dad's cell phone.

My dad's contact number was number xxx-xxx-xxxx. My mom's contact numbers were xxx-xxx-xxxx and ALSO yyy-yyy-yyyy. She texted me from yyy-yyy-yyyy, and when I replied, it went to my Dad. Strange. My dad doesn't even text!

But since the phone number was listed under both contacts, it made a mess.

Try opening the People App, then clicking on your daughter or wife's contact, and looking at what phone #'s are attached to each.

I'm running out of ideas, but I hope this helps!

What do you mean by TWO phone numbers, my mom has a home phone and a cell phone. Daughter only has cell phone. I for the life of me can't figure this out. The worst thing is it's random people. My wife messages me and it puts her's in a separate thread. My friend from work messages me and it puts him under my mom's thread, then another friend msg's me and it puts his in a separate thread, it's really strange.....

TKS but its a email that is stuck and I already deleted it and blacklisted it. so no chance of it still being around. It stuck in my phone some how. Going to try a factory reset after I backup all my stuff.

No threads or messages today deleted all.
My friend from work txt'd me I replied to him (so I thought)
It went to my friends email.

I mean when you open People, then select a contact, you look at what Phone Numbers are listed for that contact. Make sure that your mom, daughter, and wife don't have each other's numbers listed in their listing. Just in case. I find it strange that it would be texting random people though. That's tough. I've never seen it.

I'd love to look at both of your Contact list, if it could be exported, so I can see if there's something goofy about it. It's not that easy though. I just can't imagine how that would have gotten out of whack. You might be able to go to gmail.com and export your contact list. But I'd definitely start from scratch, either way, if your contact lists aren't too big.

You know what, here's what I'd do.

Open People.

Open each contact, one by one by touching each contact, then hitting Menu > Delete.

Let's see what happens, when you have NO one in your contact list. See if it keeps texting random people, or if it keeps each phone number in its own thread, like it should.

This will accomplish what your 'hard reset' will, but less painfully.

Please report on what happens with your text threads if you have NO one in your contact list. (All texts will just list according to phone number).

I will be appalled if it keeps texting random people.

ok gonna try that and see what happens. But a funny thing did happen I remember. I added my mom, manually, added her home, cell, and work numbers. Then she sent an email to my phone via txt msg. then my daughter msg'd me before I had added her back and it stuck my daughters phone number under my mothers thread. For some reason my mom keeps sending me txt's through her damn email because she won't use her phone.... but it should still separate them

i didnt realize chomp had one. i use it mostly for the reminders.

sorry been diggin out of the snow. Didn't try anything on phone yet but now im getting double notifications after a chomp update. deleted chomp checked all contacts no dups

Does deleteing a contact on your phone delete it in your google gmail account? I cant delete all my contacts. What about hard reset does that affect your gmail?
