Root First time rooter needs help!

So I have been searching and searching to see if anyone else has had the problem I having. So my phone is running gingerbread i assume sense its the latest update. And i have downloaded Petes motorola root tools and the motorola drivers and winzip and followed a tutorial off youtube that i felt was the most in depth. So i change all the setting on the phone hook it up and hit the root button, finds my phone says it resetting and then it goes to this black screen with 1980's computer look to it and in the upper right hand corner it says boot loader 20.40 or something then on the right side it says battery ok, data cable something. From what I have seen this does not seem like its doing the right thing and I have let it sit there for a half hour and it just stays on the same screen. Please I hope someone can help me with this problem I really want to clean my phone of all the useless stock apps. I hope this isn't to noobish of a question.

That is the bootloader. Sounds like you took a wrong turn somewhere. You are going to have to download rsd lite and 'sbf' read this tutorial http://rootzwiki.com/topic/331-guide-flashing-droid-x-sbf/

Have fun, its not so hard take your time and follow the instructions. Many of us have sbf'd quite a few times.

I wouldn't jump to SBF'ing just yet. Try pulling the battery and see if it will boot normally first.

BTW, you might want to read the tutorial that's a sticky in the "All Things Root" section.

what the above poster said. try a battery pull first, if that doesnt help, you may need to SBF, but that is not likely

YOU DON'T NEED TO SBF. I had this same problem. Do a battery pull to turn it off and reboot it. Use pete's as you usually would, but every time it reboots unplug the phone until it gets to the boot animation then you can plug it back in so it doesn't get stuck at the bootloader. Do that for all three of the reboots and you're good.
