Right now I'm lovin my V. I just want to see another 4" screen option with Virgin. I know there are a lot of folks out there having good success with MT but the negative reviews have me hesitant to pull the trigger on that device. I'm still holding out hope that we see a new and better phone soon.
Maybe something will be announced at CES? If so, it probably won't be anything much, if any, better than the Triumph. The new LG Optimus 2 was just announced, and it wouldn't be surprising to see that take the place of the OV, but it's still no better than the Triumph.

What would be really nice is if VM got a Galaxy S2 variant. I wouldn't be too shocked if they did, since it's already been out for quite a while.

LG Optimus 2 keeps it simple | Android Atlas - CNET Reviews

good god I hope they kill the Optimus 2 before its released and make something nicer.

Its got the specs of the optimus slider without the keyboard.

if it had at LEAST a 3.8 inch screen I would accept it, but this is just ridiculous. the standard minimum screen size should be 3.5.

like Cheechmo said, a Galaxy S2 variant would be far better and is more likely.

I feel like sprints business is selling service plans on their expensive, subsidized phones, and they dont want to bring those class of phones to their prepaid markets in fear of cannibalizing their main sales. it certainly did that for me. I ditched a contract smartphone for the OV, stuck through to the Triumph, and have no plans to go back to a contract phone unless Virgin Mobile USA disapeared altogether.

it seems the prepaid carriers are hesitant to release high end phones. MetroPCS and Boost mobile dont have any "high end" phones, just good ones. the Triumph is the best phone available on prepaid unless you are on a GSM carrier and buy one of those high end phones off contract and use it with the prepaid SIM.

^^^ Yeah last time I was in there, they had them too

Just visited 2 BestBuys yesterday morning. No more Triumphs at the 2 stores I went to. Both clerks indicated they were not certain if they were getting any more in stock. Inrestingly enough they both admitted that most likely all the returns they got might be influencing BB's decision making process.

On a side note however StraightTalk is getting into the 4" Android market supposedly by end of this month. My wife just got an email from ST giving her an opportunity to preorder these 2 new phones !!

Well .... take a peek below. Even StraightTalk is getting it !! There are 2 new phones coming by end of the month. I was a ST user but dropped them this summer in favor of Virgins OV. I'm tellin ya .. Virgin needs to regroup in a hurry !!

LG Optimus Black and Optimus 2X Coming Soon To Straight Talk – Prepaid $45 Unlimited Talk, Text, Data

I just got an email from StraightTalk for an opportunity to reserve these phones. Apparently coming to WalMart soon. I guess read it and weep for Virgin !

The best buy last time I was there was out of stock, but I didn't ask if they were restocking or not... but if ST gets the LG optimus 2x we better be getting something good too!

Edit: Actually thinking about it... If ST gets the Lg Optimus 2X then I may think of going over to them... Plus I'll get a discount since I work at Walmart :p. Unless VM steps up and gets a better phone... I mean the Triumph is nice, but its starting to fall behind, and snapping axis issue is really annoying at times. :/

Supposed to be ready on February 7th. Can you confirm since you work over at Walmart ? They are supposed to be in stock already.

Well I work outside so I don't even know when stuff goes on sale let alone if they are gonna start selling something. I mean I can ask and see if I can find out anything, but the 7th is tomorrow so might as well wait and see if they get it.

So wait, on that straight talk plan u get 4g coverage? and on the LG optimus 2x, it looks like a pretty slick phone but if u get 4g coverage and unlimited data for just 45 and that nice of a phone...i might have to switch cuz the 3g with the MT is not so hot.

So what would u rate the LG Optimus 2x against the MT? and does the straight talk really cover u with 4g or is there some catch there?

ya i looked it up marc, it looks pretty slick but the 4g has me kinda worried, look at this coverage map. Support - Service Area See how for non android it covers more and for android its like in half, but on another link it seems to cover more so idk bout that but i mean i live in where it seems to cover but no way to zoom in to see for sure.

Also does this phone have the possibility of running cm7 to where devs would work on it u think also? thanks for the input so far :)

I think there might even be ICS for it... I don't remeber what forum is more active whether it be android forums, or xda, or it might even be sdx. Check them all for the t-mobile g2x. As far as coverage it shouldn't be different for different phones unless they run in different bands. As long as its a 4g phone which the g2x is you should be fine if your in the coverage map. And I can look to see what forum the g2x is located at.

Edit: so it looks like xda might be the more active one although the android forums is still active. Here's the xda forum for the g2x: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1114
And for android forums one: http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g2x/

I bookmarked both those sites and ty, i kinda skipped around and the MT was my first phone i ever rooted so since the G2X phone is already out on another carrier and has cm7 or other roms running on it. Does that mean for sure this one for straight talk wont have any issues possibly to flash those since it worked on the other ones for the other carriers? Hope i explained that well enough lol. Cuz if so im seriously considering switching...like within a week since my bill for the Triumph is coming up then also.

Well it really just depends. Roms for the OS (optimus s), mostly ran on the OV and vis-versa, but there were som issues with button mapping and such since the placement is different. So it just depends on how close of a match it is to the G2X. And considering it would most likely be using T-Mo's network it might actually be T-Mo's version of the G2X. But if it different it should be fairly easy to port roms over to it and rooting and such should be the same method.

Yea im hoping so cuz i just got done watching some review vids of it already on youtube running some roms and cm and i must say...more i watch the more its looking good and just the simple fact of 4g honestly. Im one of them who skypes and really like doing video chats and such and its honestly impossible almost on the MT unless ur on wifi.

I was at airport when i was flying back to tx and saw this lady using 4g to do a video chat with her dad and the clarity of it just amazed me, no skipping and was HD, was pretty slick. idk what phone it was but no way to do that on the MT. So i think ima make the switch after it comes out and if i can get some hands on at store hopefully.

Time to see if cousin wants to buy the triumph lol, thanks for the info again too Marc :)

NP. :D. And yea with 4G its amazing I can watch HD video with hardly any buffering and no skips once it has buffered. And where I am I could hardly browse the web let alone video chat with my MT lol. Any more questions I'll be up til like 1 or 2 am my time.

There is one thing i couldnt find info on really or maybe i just didnt look good enough on the site but is there a data cap on straight talk or a limit of GB per month? I know the triumphs limit kicks in around march to 3gb so im curious what the limit is of straight talks is. I do stream netflix at home sometimes on Triumph through wifi and i honestly probably would when im out and about killing time and with 4g if i had it.

If its not capped or has a decent limit then that would make my decision easier too i just really wanna hold the phone cuz i do really like the screen size of the MT but in some of the vids the screen looks kinda small on the LG Op.

I'll see if I can find anything. And streaming does take quite a bit of data, but if you have wifi at your house then you won't waste as much data. I have a 5GB 4g cap before it drops down to 2g speeds, but since I have high speed wifi I really don't use all that much data. Anyways I'll look around and see what I can find maybe even walk over to Walmart and find out.

ya i googled myself but couldnt find any info on the LIMIT, i found one where a guy was complaining because it seems like ur not allowed to use the phone for hotspots for ur laptop but i clearly saw in a video that was a official review that it was a feature of the phone. Idk if it will carry over to straight talks plan but thats not a biggy to me.

All i could find was for one of the plans was that u get 1000 mins and texts and 30mb of data, 30 mb of data sounds really low for straight talk so i hope there aint a 1gig cap or something cuz that would just stink lol but ya ima keep googling and see what i can find out.

EDIT: well i found a post but it was back in 2009 and it said there cap was 5gigs

Ok from what I have found its kinda like VM its unlimited to a point. Like a don't abuse this unlimited data cap. So not a set cap, but it is there supposedly. As far as tethering goes IDK. My MT4GS has it built in and it works idk if T-Mo's prepaid plan actually allows it in the TOS though. And I'm fairly certain for ST it is against their TOS to tether.

Edit:
ST TOS said:
