HTC Rezound OTA is here

Hello there,

I am on a rooted and factory issued ROM rezound. Verizon began downloading the file was nice enough to inform me that data fees may apply those dicks. This is the third time it has downloaded and I wake up next to my phone with a red triangle with an ! in the middle placed over a cell phone. A little something like this

What does this mean? What should be my next actions? I feel like Verizon is phone raping me by auto installing firmware updates anyway I can stop this or should I just sit back and pretend to enjoy it...?

I've been just taking the battery out and putting it back in and it works fine.

Thanks so much!!!

I have two questions for the all-knowing and all-seeing helpful folks here...

1. Since I like my phone the way it is but wish to be able to backup my apps and settings, I would assume I should not worry about the unlock from htcdev.com and just root. If I want to be rooted but not unlocked, is there a perm root available?

2. How do I root my phone, temp or perm, if I've already installed the latest OTA update (yesterday)?

Thanks in advance.

@vzwuser76

didn't think this was a "good thing" at first. i found my OTA was waiting for me initially, but DL'd the night of jan31. everything was fine (i actually like the 5 bars even though i only get 3 at home), but i noticed that everywhere my wife was getting 4g, i wasn't.

infuriating.

i'm so dumb. not a noob, but def no senior member. i rooted my SLCD DInc almost immediately a year ago and being out of that game for some time, i didn't even think of a hard reset. once i did that, it finally worked.

don't do speed tests (just don't care that much), but my 4g is def snappy and i happy.

hope my brainfart-fix helps someone else.

thanks to all.

So I got a second chance for the update today..restarted my phone and once again firmware started downloading... Then nothing again. Restarted again and then an air push thing appeared in the notification bar..clicked it...and nothing happened. Restarted. Still no update.

I basically want the update to get rid of the headphone jack noises along with hopeful improved reception... My 3g always looses its connection where it shouldn't...

Why won't my phone just update already!?

I don't think it makes any difference. I can't remember getting an update in the last year since I switched to Verizon that I was able to permanently keep from eventually being pushed to me and installed, security flaw, or not. I'm not sure why they even have the defer button as a choice because eventually, you're getting the upgrade. Of course I had the Thunderbolt, so every update may have been considered a critical update.

not2gutta, I know I've read here that you don't want to do a factory reset and I don't blame you. Most people rank it as about as much fun as having hemorrhoids, but that may be the only choice left to try and is what CS is going to tell you to try before sending you a replacement phone. Or you can just wait till the ICS update instead of taking your chances with this one. :)

Is it just me? Or did they adjust the Linkify library with the Rezound OTA update? I can no longer click on addresses in webpages to auto-launch Google maps, etc. I have to copy and paste now. I carry both a DInc and a Rezound, and I swear it worked on both pre-OTA. My rooted and ROM'ed DInc will always work, but it sucks that my Rezound is now crippled, thanks to Apple.

I thought the Apple suit only affected Android 1.6 thru 2.2? If you don't know what I'm referring to, Google, "HTC Linkify".

still have not received the update. Took out battery and even removed sim card. Anybody else that still have not received it?

I haven't gotten mine either - spoke with a level two tech support guy (for what ever that designation is worth). He said they push the update to a number of phones then wait a couple weeks to evaluate problems. If no significant problems or only problems then can be quickly fixed, they send another group out in a couple weeks and continue that pattern. Some might not get their update for a month or so - on the brighter side, if you are in that delayed group, you may have less problems.

No im going to have to factory reset bc mine has download the update but has never prompt me to install it. I went into settings and check new doesn't work now, and the old software is still there. I took it to verizon and they told me I would have to factory reset it to allow it to install. I read that someone else on here had to do the same thing. But is this software update really worth it?

so i just had a prompt to update.... 52mb was the size... since i already got the recent OTA i was quite surprised.... how big was our recent OTA anyone know?

I tried to catch a screen shot of it but messed up and just turned screen off, when i turned screen back on it was gone. check for update does nothing... rebooting phone....

am i going crazy?

I finally had success in installing the new update.. after a hard factory reset the firmware started downloadin again and rook forever then stopped before completion.. tho when i rebooted the phone to get it out of the notification bar , it prompted the download while off. Worked...

I think it may improved my signal because it shows bars of 3g where I didn't before.. nit significant tho. I wanted the download to get rid of the headphone static noise along with ending the periodically freezing... Battery seems a lil worse but I've been traveling in and out of 4g areas for the first time... And I don't see the verizon location agent using my battery :)
