I dont know what to do... i can get the note, but i would have to pay the cancelation fee of my contract(200 and something, roughly 210) + the 300 phone price, but i have a $50 dollar BB gift card, and i would sell my inspire 4g. Should i wait for the SG3? or should i buy the note?

Most of the people getting this phone is strictly for the size so if size is your thing get the note but the note is basically a bigger version of the skyrocket with a stylus and the gs3 is a totally different phone all together but it will be a smaller screen I will be getting the note and I am strongly thinking about getting the gs3 off contract

You can cancel out that ETF by selling your old phone and whatever accessories you have for it. That's how I've done an upgrade every year. Craigslist worked well for me. Good luck!

Wait a minute....so you have an Inspire 4G which is an AT&T phone why would you need to pay a cancellation fee? That makes absolutely no sense.

My contract isnt up yet, its up in november, but i need a new phone so imma cancel my contract and buy the note

EDIT: I am out of it so I didn't read the November part. I would just say that is going to be a hassle to do that. I mean you would end up paying more in the end because remember AT&T changed their data plans so you are automatically going to be paying $5 more a month if you do that. Also, I think there is some kind of fees associated with starting a new account. Plus you may lose your cell phone number. I don't know, it just seems like too much of a hassle. I would buy it off contract. What is wrong with your Inspire that you need a new phone?

The keyboard when i go to type will freeze certain keys(im positive its a touchscreen issue) the a,w,p,l will not work sometimes after i type really fast. and the lady on the phone(i called att) said that their would be no problem i just go in cancel(wouldnt mind paying 30 for 3gb) and she said i pay the ETF and then buy the phone+18 dollar fee

Well if the AT&T lady said you can do that then go for it dude, as long as you know it's a better deal than buying the Note outright. Plus dude said above you'll lose your unlimited data.

I dont have unlimited data...i just switched to att april last year, verizon screwed us over and told us to pay the double bill or they will cancel our service, so we left, kind of a good thing we had 1-3 bars tops around my area. Full coverage with att though! =D But i think imma get the note around the end of march that is when i get my student refund check(broke college student.) and i told the lady that i screenshotted our convo and she said that is okay and i can use it as proof that she said i could do the cancel and stuff

If it were ME, which it isn't. I would buy the Note off-contract and then use your November upgrade for the GSIII. That's just me though. I think once the Note comes out on AT&T, the price for it unlocked will come down to possibly $500-$600 price range. The GSIII will probably be about the same price that the Note is now or the Skyrocket at $250-$300 which means about $600 unlocked as well. Also, you would actually SAVE money this way. Think about it like this: if you were to cancel your contract and buy a Note, you would be paying about $470 (let's face it, no one is going to want to buy a used Inspire that has touchscreen problems for much money), then if you wanted the GSIII later on that will cost at least $500-$600 (more towards the $600+ end when it first comes out) so then you are up to $1000-$1100. But, if you buy the Note unlocked now and right now it's about $650 (minus the same $50 price I put on the previous calculation is $600) and then for a GSIII later on would cost $250-$300 (on contract), so your total would be about $850-$900. Plus, take that $5 you aren't putting into a new data plan and instead for an INSURANCE POLICY (so you wouldn't be in this mess in the first place) and you will be good. I don't know, my calculations show you would save money by buying the Note unlocked (though I would wait for it to come out and see the AT&T off-contract but offered through Amazon or even eBay price for it).

I can tell you right now, that lady is wrong. If you CANCEL your current line, your number is gone, they bill you your last bill plus the ETF. They will then check credit again to open the new line w/ a DIFFERENT number and you will have a $36 activation fee (not $18) unless you have a FAN put on your account that waives this. The only $18 fee there is is an upgrade fee; I think she was confused. If your contract ends in November, your full upgrade should be available in July, which means you MAY be able to get an early upgrade... in the case of the Note, that would be $299.99 + $250 +$18 fee. I think that may be more worth it than ETF + losing number + credit check + $299.99 + $36 activation fee + first month's prorated/advance bill, but only you can make that decision.

Called att, and the lady said i would lose my number ect...but she also was a very nice woman and put an early upgrade on my account, and she said if best buy gives me any problems to call them and have them put the early upgrade up. She also told me to call asurion since my phone is under warranty so i can get a new 1 for free, and then i can sell it to make up for the 550 i gotta pay to get the note =D

Good thing you got it done already because the upgrade fee just doubled! Well, it goes in effect on Sunday, but still...

Actually, irregardless if you have pre-ordered, I am pretty sure that activation fee is going to still be $36. It's an activation fee, so basically once your phone is activated then that fee will go on your bill. So everyone that just ordered, I believe, will have this higher fee on their bill. There are some protests going around on change.org about it. So, go on there and sign every one that you see!
