Help Is there anyway to mirror the GN to TV via WIFI?

I know you can through the mini/HDMI converter cable, but i was looking for something easier than having to deal with any wires.

I remember my Droid X I could setup as a media server and I could play photos (never tried videos) on my TV and PS3. I can't find that option on the Gnex.

As in dlna?

imediashare is a good app for dlna, but its not true mirroring.

Cant play games or anything like that.

No, unfortunately you will need an mhl adapter, your phone charger, and an hdmi cable (kind of a pain in the ass).

The type of wireless mirroring you are suggesting I believe is still in an in infancy stage, otherwise I would love to get rid of all of the jungle of wires behind my TV

If you mean dlna, then yeah, as civicsisedan said you can. The Moto Droids just come with software pre-installed, with the Nexus you need to download one. I use Skifta, works fine with my Sony bluRay player.

My Samsung TV is DLNA capable, so I would be very interested in learning how to tie my Nexus to it...

EDIT: Looks like Skifta may just do the trick!

EDIT EDIT: I was successful in using Skifta to stream a movie from my Nexus to the Samsung TV. Looks and sounds beautiful. I can imagine that photos and music will be just a good!

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Photos and music also stream beautifully. While it's not a true "mirror" as the OP asked for, Skifta does do a great job of streaming user content to a DLNA-capable TV

I tried using Skifta and Imediashare lite and both stream HD vids like crap. Granted I did it through the PS3 not the TV but they stuttered all the way through. Too bad this didnt work well. It could have been a nice replacement to the MHL adapter and such.

I read an article (via Currents...love it) that this is one of the ideas for Wifi Direct. The Nexus is capable of Wifi Direct, but you have to have other hardware that is capable of Wifi Direct in order to share things.

So, we shall see.

In the mean time, you could go total over kill and get a wireless HDMI transmitter, but you'd still need the mini/HDMI cable between the phone and the transmitter.

I "discovered" Skifta a couple weeks ago and initially had the same "choppy" playback that byrds8 mentions when I streamed through the PS3, but then tried connecting direct to LG TV and it worked great. The only thing I wish it offered (unless it does and I missed it) is the ability to FF/RWN or bookmark my spot on a pause.

One thing I really like, is that you can use the app without having to have content on the phone itself. I can have XVIDs on my laptop, and then use the phone app to link the TV to the computer. I have PS3 Media Server on the laptop, but that only lets me connect to the PS3. Skifta allows me to stream straight from laptop to TV without needing any extra AV equipment on.

Now THAT'S news! I tried that and my PC shows up... but there is no media found in Skifta. Does my PC need a DLNA client? Do I need Media Player open on the PC? How exactly did you pull that off? That would be a great plus for me!

WiFi direct does exactly this and is supported in the GNEX. I use it at work with a Samsung Smart TV with WiFi direct support and a common WiFi connection. Mirrors the device exactly.

what do you mean mirrors? like mirrors the display? or the just allows you to view content? i didn't know Wifi Direct had built in display mirroring...

I installed PS3 Media Server (PMS). It's free (open source) software that runs on Java. I have it running on my PC (Mac in my case) which includes a watched folder list. Then, when I open Skifta, it links to my computer and sees the files in the folders that PMS is "hosting".

PMS supports photos, videos and music although the specific file formats supported are based on the codecs your PC's renderers can handle (i.e. if your PC can't open/play the file locally, Skifta won't be able to either). If transcoding is necessary, it happens on the PC side -- this may result in stuttering/stalling of playback if you don't have enough processing power or network bandwidth.

How? In depth. What steps do you take to get this to work? What do you do on the device? On the TV?

I will have to double check the exact steps when we set it up initially. If I recall, we attached the TVs and handsets to the same AP, enabled wifi direct server on the TVs, then enabled wifi direct on the device, searched for the tv, and connected. The entire display from the handset and tablets were shown on the tv

This might be the part where you're losing me. When I check the "Wifi Direct" option, nothing happens. It just has the box checked. Is a menu supposed to pop up when you do that? Will that menu only appear if another WiFi Direct object is enabled in the vicinity?

BTW, I was able to play pictures and music from my GNx through a DLNA-enabled and networked Denon 2112ic AVR, but I can't figure out how to play pictures from my Picasa albums. Is it possible to do that at all without having to dl the albums to the phone first?
