Help Swype for Nexus?

Can anyone explain why the stock Swype keyboard talk to text feature isn't Google based? I believe it's dragon diction.

Swype was bought by :"Nuance"? the company that owns dragon natural speaking. So the most recent versions use Dragon, which although i haven't tested is generally considered the best in the industry at voice to text.

Personally I think its a good thing.

Please note:

If it isn't preinstalled on your handset, or downloaded directly from beta.swype.com, the Swype .apk file is considered warez by Swype themselves. Please don't risk putting Android Forums in their legal team's gunsights. ;)

Still no support for the gnex as of today.

So even though it's free, and beta, it's warez? They seem pretty uptight. That said, understandable that you don't want them to come down on the forums for that, but BOY do I wish I had swype. Loved it on my DroidX, miss it daily on my gnex.

Yeah there are several 3rd party keyboards that use dragon for the voice to text now another is flex9

And FlexT9 is owned by Nuance as well. Maybe they are positioning this as their General Marketplace keyboard while Swype is their OEM keyboard solution. Anyway, I am very happy with FlexT9 and have to assume the two share technology. I went from Swype (came preinstalled on my D2) to FlexT9 and really didn't have to pay attention to the change. Just entered text the way I always did.

I hope to god that the new ICS swype will NOT include the stupid language button, Im so sick and tired of hitting espanol everytime i type somthing as its right in the way on the modded-leaked version.

I never had a issue hitting it. but now that I look, its just strange having something like that on the keyboard? Do people really change languages that often?

Long press the swype button -> Language Options ->uncheck any languages you don't want.

The button remains, though you can't inadvertently switch languages.

Interesting.
Just downloaded the official installer and it let me download and install the official Swype without any problems.
Haven't received an email from Swype, but this version seem to work just fine on the Nexus. :)
Maybe this is the long awaited update?

On the 02/13 David Johnstone (an admin over at the official Swype forums) posted the following 2 posts:

"By now, many of your are wondering, "Hey, so where exactly is this next beta update?"

Though the overall amount of bugs is dwindling, we are addressing a few issues here and there and are simply unwilling to release this beta prematurely - the last thing we want is for your user experience to suffer as a result of a hasty release on our part. You can rest assured that we are as excited to release this next beta as you are to receive it, and we are working hard to smash these last few bugs.

We do appreciate your patience greatly, and thank you for bearing with us."

&

"We will be updating this forum as soon as the next beta download becomes available. Additionally, Swype will notify you that an update is available.

Keep in mind that updates may take up to 72 hours to arrive on your device. You will receive an update notification the next time your device checks in to the Swype Connect service. If you would like, you can manually initiate this process by pressing the "Refresh" button in the "Swype Connect" section of Swype Settings, though your update request may be deferred based on server load. If you feel that your device is taking too long to update, do keep an eye on this but please wait at least 72 hours before reporting update failures on the forums.

Thanks!"

Can we remove the Swype installer once the official Swype has been installed?

Is there any real need for it?

I thought there was a way to have Swype use Google's Real-time dictation instead of Dragon. Anyone know how to do this?

Or do I have to change my keyboard back to Google input everytime?

you "should" be able to remove the installer, I don't know why you would though. it doesn't take much room and makes updating the app MUCH simpler.

I don't think there is a official way to use "google" instead of "dragon" on swype. Anything I can think of would probably involve someone messing with the "APK" file and is not supported/bad/don't do it/ etc :p
