Help Gs2 poor wifi reception

I dunno if anyone is following this thread anymore but I dropped the phone into Samsung for repair. The report sheet stated they replaced the PCB and im happy to say that my reception issues are now solved. WIFI reception is now strong all over my property.
The phone went in monday morning to the vermont repair centre (Victoria, Australia) and was ready to be picked up wed lunch time. Great service, no questions asked even though the phone is slightly beaten up already.
If anyone has bad reception (and i mean more than a couple of meters from the router/modem and through 1 wall) send it in for repair.

Hi all, I had my s2 for a couple of months and first smart phone.
I was connecting to Pub private business router with passcode.
Worked well for a couple of days, then around and around obtaining ip address, wont connect. Everybody in pub, 4 people no probs.
No adjustment few days later started working again???. Now given up again.
Any ideas please. Paul Crowthorne Uk

Paul.

If u havent tried "forgetting" the connection then re connecting with it try that. Otherwise the app i used to check my signal strength is called wifi analyzer. Free on android market. Compare ur signal strength with that of others next to you (assuming they also have an android phone). If there is a huge difference in signal strength i would suggest you sent it for repair as i did.

Hi,
I have had my S2 since Oct last year and until recently no probs with wifi. It worked all the time at home and was fine anywhere inside or out. All of a sudden I can't connect to WIFI at all. Not even in Maccas. It just keeps trying to connect and then no go. All other devices in the house no issues. Tried a hard reset, and a firmware upgrade....no luck. Took it for repair and told them the issue they just say they did a software update...ok maybe mine got corrupted? No, I get home and lo and behold still the same issue. I couldn't even do a hard reset again as that got stuck part way through and then didn't do anything to wipe the phone. Am going to be doing an email to their tech support after speaking on the phone to them. They say that they might just give me a new phone.....but I am not sure it will fix my problems with what others are saying. Such a pity as I really like this phone and other than this issue all of a sudden all was fine for 4 months.

My new S2 gives me almost no Wifi signal at all. It doesn't matter on what kind of router, or how close I am to te router. My iPad is on 100% and my S2 is almost out of range.

No new updates available from Samsung - and I'm close to moving from Android to iPhone. Bad for marketing, Samsung.....

Mine had the same issue. Send it in for repair. It fixed my issue

the S2 is just a heap of crap

i got mine and instantly had 1 bar where my htc has all 5 for cell reception
on top of that 5 feet away from the router and no signal
370$ for garbage

samsung has a long line of crap phones .... pretty much everything made the last couple years

stay away from samsung ... make em understand with your wallet that you do not put up with inferior shit made in china

Hate to tell you this but Samsung is Korean and HTC is based in Republic of China so that logic goes out the window.

Anyway, mine is fine. It works in the back garden and the garage with a virgin media superhub with is known for bad wifi strength and not had problem with cell signal strength.

I had a HTC Desire, which apparently had the antenna built into the back of the phone. I don't know if the build or design was far superior than the SG2, but it definitely had better network and wifi reception.

Steve

I still have my HTC Desire as well as my newer S2.

Loaded Wifi Analyzer on both.

In my house; with 2 active wifi broadcasters - one Thompson TG784 router and Netgear WAP. S2 and Desire almost the same; perhaps the S2 just slightly better than Desire. Same result whether nearer one or the other

I think in majority of the cases its the wifi, not the phone.

Because if the wifi is fast and line is stable, so are my downloads. If the wifi is slow with poor signal, then net traffic is dodgy.

If it was the phone problem, it would be poor regardless of where you are.

In your case, if you believe it is the phone problem, then try returning and get a replacement because IMHO, the SGS2 is a great phone. And I believe it shows in the numbers....

Cheers

First up, a reminder to everyone.... keep your posts civil please. Differences of opinion are part and parcel of a healthy community, but insults and name-calling will not be tolerated

the S2 is just a heap of crap

I understand your frustration, but I believe you'll get more practical assistance over in the Epic 4G Touch section seeing as your handset is on Boost and is therefore a CDMA device utilising a completely different radio chipset and firmware to the GSM devices the contributors here own.
