Camera starts every time I use my phone

On my new Galaxy Nexus, every time the phone comes back from sleep, it starts the camera app. This means every time I use my phone, I have to stop the camera app first, which is very very very annoying. I've noticed that this is an ICS issue, because I've seen it on an emulator running ICS also.
Does anyone know how to change this behavior, how to prevent the camera from starting every time I pick up my phone?

Never heard of this issue before, if you are unlocking the phone to the right, and you haven't got the camera running in the background, and pressing back to exit the camera and not home, then i'd try restarting your phone.

Edit: If you mean it's in the list of running apps, this isn't an issue as it is simply in the memory so it starts more quickly later. I think.

I figured it out. I am left handed. It turns out there's a camera icon that I didn't see because my thumb would cover it. Now I know that I have to make a counter intuitive swipe to the right, rather than to the left.
Thanks for the replies anyway.
There are custom ROMs such as AOKP which let you rearrange the icons (and add more), that may be something to consider.
