Root [DEV] Continuing Triumph ICS Development

Yuck, assembly debugging with gdb... That is pretty cool you can do that, but that would take a lot of time and patience. I guess that is the only way to figure out what is going on in those closed source blobs though. Did that actually help in figuring out some of the camera problems? You are quite the wizard if you had to dig that deep to find the problems.

I think it would be really helpful if you wrote up step by step instructions for remote debugging CyanogenMod from eclipse. I wish I had more time to work on this stuff, because remote debugging has to make the process much less painful.

Sadly, I wasn't able to get gdb to load of any of the shared libraries for /system/bin/mediaserver .

I can work on a step-by-step write-up on remote debugging sometime later this weekend. I'll look into adding it to a wiki of some sort (maybe on Cyanogenmod's wiki).

Whyzor,

I believe I read on another post these drivers won't work unless we upgrade the kernel to at least 2.6.35. That is if this is the same video drivers?

xda-developers - View Single Post - [DEV] Adreno 205 EGL(Graphic) Driver Update (30/12/2011)

Mantera already picked up the necessary kernel source changes here:

https://github.com/mantera/triumph-kernel-msm7x30/commit/46cea7ad007cf38438208ce14dd1c3b4890f70c3

I'm trying to port it to CM7 Reloaded. I cherry picked that commit and the genlock previous to it, got the kernel to compile (not sure if I set the Kconfig flags right). After it boots fine and runs with the original /system/lib/egl/* binaries. But if I replace the egl/* from the link I posted above or from this ICS ROM, it core dumps or refuses to run HW accel at all.

I think this ICS ROM already has the new drivers since nenamark2 reports 24 fps (from one of Mantera's previous posts). On CM7 reloaded currently, I get 12-13 fps with the original drivers so there's room for improvement. Maybe there are even more updated binaries that can get higher than 24 fps if we can find them, since the kernel source works (on CM9 at least).

The drivers from your link actually gives slightly worse performance than the ones that we are currently using already. In the Quadrant2, I'm getting about 2800+ in 0.6.5+ and with the binaries from the link, Quadrant2 dropped to about 2700+.

Also, for CM7 tg reloaded, what do you mean by "it core dumps or refuses to run HW accel at all"? Try cherry-picking my latest commits to the gb branch of android_device_motorola_triumph and see if that works any better.

Thanks, I didn't pick up all the binaries last night. Will try again. BTW, I got this response from edowar regarding the binaries he used:

-----------

The binary which I used is come from sony experia zeus, you can pick from here

https://github.com/koush/proprietary...roprietary/lib

or

here

Newkgsl_driver.zip

but much better you don't use it, because it's very experimental and many users of my rom reported fc's and restart itself when play some hd games.

One problem I've noticed: Some widgets in the default home launcher's app drawer (Trebuchet) overlap, and trying to click and drag them to the desktop causes Trebuchet to force close. The main one I noticed this with were Handcent's widgets, but there could be others.

I noticed this as well, that's why I switched to nova, I highly recommend it

Thats a good starter. I think I started out with a dell dimension my school was throwing away.

This is my set up its takin me about 2 years and next year I'm gonna overhaul everything and shoot for water cooling.

She is all custom from the ground up(built her myself)
Cpu AMD Thuban 1035t Six core overclocked to a modest 3.6ghz 2.8ghz nb
4gb of 1800 ram with 7-7-7-24 timings
mobo is a biostar 990fxe
gpu is an old Nvidia gts 250 but she plays most games at high or better.
And a couple of sata hard drives.

I can build ICS in about 30-40 min and a kernel in prolly under 5.
My biggest problem is the rural internet. I only have a 3mb burst plan.

Mother of God..

Ya I did a build the other day in 37min.
and rebuilds take like 2min.

Wish I could help dev more but I am working at Lowes and going to welding school.

HOLY CRAP! My builds take 2hrs for gingerbread!

I do metal fab as a hobby. currently building a 95 Nissan pickup with Ford 302 and 5 speed trans. I'm a mechanic by trade. I have a computer science degree that I don't use.

There are build threads around here. I would say that discussions on what you use to do that would fit in at those threads. :)

(If you want the posts you made on what you use moved there shoot me a PM, I will be more than happy to do so.)

With this being a development thread we should keep discussion pertinent to the development.

I'm not trying to be a killjoy. Just trying to make it so there are less discussions that veer off topic here. It's not me saying that anyone is in the wrong, just trying to help make it easier for someone to find what they need here.

Let's not argue over Nova and Apex launcher. To each their own. I feel like it's becoming a pseudo-fanboy war (everyone someone says "I use Nova", another person says "I use Apex and it's better" and so on and so forth). Let's stay on topic. Launchers are not on topic. A more on topic thing, though, would be looking at what makes Trebuchet so slow on the Triumph in comparison to Edowar's ROM.
