I would like to see a good e-mail app for Android that will have the following features.

  • Supports Exchange server (ActiveSync or WebDAV, but should display html e-mail even on exchange server 2003)
  • Has a rich-text editor for composing e-mail
  • Supports Hotmail (with HTML mail capability) and displays all the folders and not just Inbox
  • Syncs with server properly - meaning a read e-mail on phone should be in read status in the server too
  • Stores e-mail data on SD card
  • Good mail search and sort capabilities
  • Exchange calendar sync
  • Clean and neat interface

Tried K9-Mail. But found Mail Droid is able to satisfy most of them. But not all of them. I use HTC Desire running Android 2.2.

Any suggestions?

Are there any free apps?
K9 is considered by most to be the best of the free apps and you said you already tried it.

I did have a look at both and Moxier looks more professional. However when I evaluated some time before they do not support HTML e-mail on Exchange 2003 server, as it was a limitation imposed as such by Microsoft on the ActiveSync technology.
Enhanced Email supports HTML and Exchange 2003 and is fully licensed by Microsoft for ActiveSync. I doubt limitations imposed by M$ can be overcome by an email client so I don't understand your complaint. If you have more questions about this try the EE forum. Support by the developer there is excellent.

As K-9 and Mail Droid were using WebDav route they were able to render HTML e-mail and Mail Droid has a rich text composer as well.
Support for rtf is poor in Android in general. Almost nothing opens a rtf document. It's a very old and dying format. Probably would be best to move away from depending on it in the future.

Next, do they really support HTML for Hotmail, I doubt it. Please check and confirm, if possible.
I avoid Hotmail like the plague so I can't help there. Check the EE website or forum for info. My guess is it does.

K-9 mail supports HTML mail for Exchange 2003 as it uses WebDav interface. Mail app of iPhone uses ActiveSync but still tweaks the MS code with license from MS to make sure that HTML e-mail is supported. If EE supports that, I would be happy.

By Rich-text composer, I meant a composer that will support HTML, like the one you'll see in desktop e-mail clients and not the rtf file format. This should allow you to change the font of your e-mail text, align, change color of font, embed images etc. [/QUOTE]
