Sprint changing Family Plan discount again

Upvote 0
Well, I did it. I called yesterday and asked to cancel my contract without ETF because of the contract change on the January bill. The Sprint Rep was very nice, he asked that for a $50 credit, would I reconsider and I declined.

They let me know that I had to the end of the billing cycle to port my numbers, which I did last night. For the most part, a painless process.

Where'd you go, and what are you paying?

I went to Verizon. The only reason I did was I found out my wife gets a 22% discount, well that and their network here is amazing fast. LTE speeds of 20Mbps.

I actually have LTE coverage at my house, were with Sprint I barely had a 3g signal at all, forget the WiMax, that was no where to be found.

As far as price, initially, it was about $5 less than what I was paying at Sprint, with discounts, but I decided to get the 7GB shared phone/tethering plan which is $20 more than the 5GB plan. I really need the Mobile Hotspot feature for my work.

Yes, you can get out of your contract with out the ETF, BUT, you will have to cancel your line or lines and leave sprint. But you actually have the option to cancel only the lines you want and not all. So I have 4 lines but I want only 1 canceled. they are canceling only that line and the others are still active but still on contract though.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still weighing about my options here.

Thanks to you guys' help I just got out of my Sprint contract with no fees and went to AT&T for the Galaxy Note. I am likely to come back once LTE is rolled out and Sprint has a similar device. Keep enjoying that unlimited data guys!

i'm thinking about doing the exact same thing. how do you like the note? i've played with it and love the size. just wanna hear some opinions from a new owner. thanks in advance!

I just learnt about this a week ago. Lucky for me I only have two lines on my account. After spoken to one of their sales rep, I found out that I will be paying the same amount as I did before. The $129 - $19 = $110. And the $19 that was taken off is now added onto the second line, so basically I'm still paying the same amount. If you want a third or forth line, that would be an extra $20.

These carriers are going to milk us out of every penny we have.
Ps. I don't see a difference going to a different carrier, cause they aren't any better about charging their customers. Plus, Sprint will work with you on a applicable payment plan.

Neither do I see any point in switching. Surely our data service is piss poor right now, but it will improve in due time. I see no reason to switch to another provider that will charge me more, give me less, but provide only a slight increase in services across the board.

You are right that you are still paying the same amount, but anyone that gets a discount on their service is now paying more for the same service because their discount in now based off $110 rather than the full $129. For me I'm paying about $5 more because of this change.

Yeah, I feel you on that. But like probably 99% of the people its about the principle of the fact that they are doing this and squeezing more money out of us. It's just ridiculous.

I can't disagree there, but it would be no different on another carrier. That's just the realistic approach. You pay more on the others and get less. Simple math. My bill is $5 more, but still about $30-40 cheaper than any similar plan on AT&T and VZW. I don't blame people for jumping ship. It is very understandable, but make your choice and move on. Don't keep coming back to stir the pot because you're a disgruntled ex-customer. It lacks class.

As a long term Sprint customer, I can tell you we can't wait to get rid of all 5 phones that we have. We have the worst phone service I've ever seen.

I have contacted Sprint numerous times regarding this issue. They suggested some sort of airwave device for our home (that came with a 2 yr contract, I don't think so). I tried to explain that it's NOT just in our home that the phones aren't working. Four of them are the same phone, the one in CA is different. As well, the discount I was getting through my employer for Sprint has gone down about 5%? The discount with Verizon is still at 22%. I don't get it? The phones are really bad, the service even worse. I found out that it will cost me $50 to cancel each phone so this is what we are working on right now. The icing on the cake for me was when Sprint deleted my hubby's upgrade that he was due last November for no reason? Also, as a NEW Sprint customer, an I Phone cost is $199.99. If you are a CURRENT Sprint customer (of 10 yrs here) that same phone is $649!!!! Since my son was wanting an I-Phone...this issue blew us away. I even phoned and complained about it...Sprint's response.."sorry about your luck". Ok...so service works about 40% of the time, my discount has gone down, and I have to pay 3 times what a new customer would pay for a phone...PLUS my upgrade that was due was taken away. WAY TO GO Sprint....you have the best customer service I've ever seen.

We are all looking forward to actually having phones that work. I'm willing to pay more to actually have good service. One of our best friends is a Verizon manager. He can be sitting in our living room with a full set of bars on his phone...we have 1. I'm so sick of Sprint....

I'm going to check on this change that was made...maybe I'm not too late so I won't have to pay these fees.
