Help Overheat - Galaxy S2 i777

I apologize if this has been addressed but I did a search with no luck and read the possible thread that was suggested when I started to post a new thread. I have i777 on ATT's 4GB data plan. It has been great until today or about 2 months. It just started to overheat (just short of being slightly painful to touch by the time I got it out of my pocket and opened) while in a meeting so pulled battery and let it sit. I replaced it after about an hour and shortly afterwards it started to get very warm. No apps were running, WiFi not connected but was up, Bluetooth was activated and paired. I have not rooted to change speed settings or anything that sophisticated. It was not in a case. It is on Android 2.3.6 if that matters
Is it the battery or the phone? Has anyone heard of any problems with these phones?

hi. mine has only overheated when i had very heavy data usage. from what you esplained, since it is only 2 months old, it seems defective to me. i would make a warranty claim, but when at&t does it, they do not send a new battery, so make sure you tell them you must also have a new battery, period. if they say "no new battery", then tell them you will send the old battery with the phone, and do not take no for an answer.

please note: for a warranty claim, you get a refurb phone, but don't fret because it has a 100% new outer case and screen. just the guts are refurb.

if you have insurance, i think you may get a 100% new phone, but again, if not, don't fret as the refurb phones have a 100% new outer case/screen. if you have insurance, they raised the deductable to $125, so, even IF you do have insurance, i personally would, and have myself, just made a warranty claim as i did not want to pay the $125 insurance deductable.

the phone has a 1/one year warranty!! if you have insurance they send a new phone first and a no charge pre-paid return box which means you do not have to go without a phone. i am not sure under a warranty claim if they will send a phone or make you send your phone FIRST, meaning you have no phone.

the warranty number to call is 800-801-1101. if you have insurance call 866-562-8662.

FOR YOUR SAKE, PLEASE DO NOT POSTPONE TAKING ACTION. SOONER OR LATER YOUR PHONE WILL FRY AND YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE A WARRANTY OR INSURANCE (IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE) ANYWAY, SO I WOULD DO IT BEFORE IT IS FRIED.

good luck.

overheating usually only occurs when the phone is running something in the background. You might have an app that is running rogue on you and causing it to overheat. In your situation, i would either:

1) check to make sure you dont have an app thats running in the background. Uninstall some apps that you might not need just to see if thats the problem.

or

2) exchange the battery. Its possible that the battery is bad or maybe even the battery connectors on the phone itself. Since you're still stock, take it back to AT&T and see what they say. They might exchange the phone for you, as well.
