new thread for ics official update release

Just wanted to make a thread for any1 who gets the official ics update without being rooted. so if u get it, post how u got it ( kies or ota) and what network u r on so other ppl know when its available!

Something seams to be happening, I am trying to update but the network is down, the first time I have ever experienced that, hopefully that means that its down while making updates for the distribution of ICS.

My Location is Norway and my provider is Talkmore/Telenor.

What makes you say that? Isn't kies the only way to get official Ics when we do get it? I might be wrong of course but that's what the rumours are :-\

theres 2 ways to get official firmware updates. kies or ota ( over the air), i assume you know how to use kies from ur previous post.
using over the air is far better in my opinion, you go to settings - about phone - software update - check for software update.
you will need to set up an account with samsung, only take 30 secs. becoz after u have done it, instead of loading up kies (which takes about 30 mins), u can use ota and its soooo much faster and less hassle. :D

I don't know why all android devices not getting update at the same time like apple, shame on Android.
Because of different devices having different specs, requirments etc, and different carriers applying their own ICS firmware, which obviously with different carriers will take different amounts of time. Although you would have thought, a carrier would want to get the latest firmware out as soon as possible, for customer satisfaction etc. Its just a waiting game :(

That is understandable, but I wish google change its policy and force all companies to upgrade the frame wear and provide the UI to be downloaded later on the market.

The bigger picture is that when you enter a contract with a network, you are essentially spreading the cost of the handset and air/data time over a long payment period/plan.

You may be getting a subsidised or possibly more expensive option, but in a lot of cases - it makes it affordable for the individual to keep up with new tech.

The network operators put the their own stuff on top of the standard software to try and get customers to buy stuff that they get the proceeds or a percentage.
Its one of the ways they make profit and stay in business, so that they are still there next year to help you spread the cost of your next handset.

It really is nothing to do with Google (other than in a business sense thru partnership deals), and in fact they make sure that there are phones in the market place with pure (or Vanilla) firmware available (Nexus range) for those that want and are able to pay for it, unlike other companies.

Personally, I want the option to spread the cost of my handset, as well as having a phone with unbranded firmware, so I generally flash an unbranded generic version of the firmware - yes it voids the warranty, but hey life's all about choices.

If you want an unbranded phone - save up for a sim free one, if you go the route of a contract, you're gonna have to accept any additions that they generally make - however, blaming Google is a little off the mark ?

Funnily enough I set up a Samsung account earlier today, not really had a play around with it yet through. Sounds interesting and a better option than kies. thanks for the info

As we know, SII is one of the powerful Android Phone from Samsung.
Moreover with this phone, Samsung already got high sale volume and right now it's time for Galaxy Nexus so called first ICS Phone. Again Samsung seem to busy with SIII, so it going to delay and delay for ICS update on SII. Just my wild vision may be...

Agree with sbablool,
Right, Samsung want to launch new phone with new Mobile OS.
But it not copy from apple cause all organization gonna to do like this is the way of usual.

Samsung Phone... Huh! As for me, I don't like apple phone at all so top of that, I gonna to love Samsung Phone, as I have been test others phone that almost are popular in Android phone market but I don't like them cause they never give me better touch capability and performance too.

What happened? Norway here too (Onecall/Network Norway/Telenor :)...
Only update has been from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 on my phone, and I am not happy with that update at all...
