Best Calendar and Contacts?

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to my Razr. (It's a Razr Maxx, actually).

I am loving the hardware, but the software is a little shoddy, coming from my old HTC Incredible.

Two things I'd like to change:

1. I don't love the calendar. I'm not nuts about the Calendar Display widget. Also, I don't like how you have to enter dates and times by repeatedly pressing up, up, up. Setting a time for 6:30 is an exercise in frustration, as you click up 30 times! I also don't like that you can't press a date and enter an appointment for that date.

2. Contacts are better, but I wish that I had some flexibility in terms of display. I prefer Lastname, Firstname rather than always having to display Firstname Lastname. I would also sometime like to display the company name rather than the contact's name. I could do all of these things on the HTC, but I can't on Moto's software.

So, can anyone please suggest some good Calendar and Contact apps for me to try in place of the stock Moto apps?

Thanks!

I have found that I like the Pure Calendar Widget. It's a paid app but is very customizable. There's also the Pure Calendar Grid by the same developer.
There's also Jorte which I have seen a lot of people say they like.

I don't know about contact apps. I've always used the one that comes with the phone. (I don't make many calls) Sorry can't point you in any direction there.

Thanks. I should've mentioned, though, that I want something that will synch and create appointments and change contacts in Exchange. I don't use Google Calendar.

I've been using Touchdown on my Droid Incredible for a year and it's great and offer more options then the native Enchange app on HTC anyway. My two favorite Touchdown features are the ability to sync email subfolders and search the server for older emails. I sync email, calendar and tasks but NOT contacts. For some reason, Touchdown, is extremely slow to sync contacts (I have 2700) so I use the native Exchange app for contacts only.

I have a Razr Maxx on order and will try the stock Exchange app first before installing Touchdown.

The ONLY two things I really miss from my DINC, the full screen month view calendar widget and the HTC email program. I know many hated it but I found that email program the easiest and cleanest to use. I had 3 GMAIL and on Exchange account synched to it. All calendars synced flawlessly as well as contacts. I loved how I would open the app to the default account, read messages and then tap the top of the screen and it would give me a list of installed accounts. tap the account and go right to that email account. It kept all accounts separate and easier to read. I do not like the stock Android email app and do not use it at all. I use the GMAIL app now for my 3 GMAIL accounts and K-9 for my Exchange account. If I could port the HTC app onto my phone though I would use it in a flash. I tried it once and couldn't get it to open.

I use JORTE now as a free alternative calendar and have grown used to it. Don't like it as well as HTC but it works and I can have a month view calendar on a home screen which is a requirement for my personal use. aCalendar would be the one I used if it had a month view widget.

For contacts, I use the installed contact app and you can change the view list to last name first by opening contacts, settings, display options. I actually prefer GO Contacts but do not like it's dialer. I have both on my phone but normally just use the stock contact list.

Thank you! I didn't see the option to sort and list contacts by last name. I still liked the way the Incredible handled it better, on a case by case basis, but this is better than nothing.
