Help ICS: Transformer Shutting Off Mysteriously

lol love Asus supports reply to the issue...:

Thank you for contacting Asus UK.

It is very unfortunate that you are experiencing issues after the ICS update. Our apologies for the inconveniences caused.

We have been made aware of the issues that customers are having after the ICS update. Our R&D department have been notified unfortunately no root cause has been found as of yet. We are still looking into this matter.

At this stage we would like to advise you to back up all your data and perform the reset back to factory settings as below:
1. Press and hold the power button and choose <Ok> to shut down.
2. Remove any SD cards from the Eee Pad.
3. Press and hold the <Volume Down> button, then press and hold the <Power> button. Keep pressing them both until you see white writing on the screen. You may then release them.
4. Wait five seconds until you see an icon in the middle of the screen labeled "Data Wipe".
5. Use the <Volume down> button to highlight "Data Wipe"
4. Press the <Volume up> button to execute the process.
6. After the "Wipe Data" process finished, it will automatically reboot and start normally.

If the above fails to resolve the issue, we can only advise of a repair.

......

lol i just copied and paste the thing in here, spot the numerical error....

so what do you guys think?

I've got one for you, this morning I took it off the charger, surfed the web, undocked, and turned it OFF. I came back from work, hit the on button and it was waiting on the decrypt password. So it had somehow turned itself back on but was waiting input. Sometime in the 8hrs or so I was away.

Weird.

Anyone do that full reset and see if it helps??

Hi Guys!

Having all the same weird problems you guys describe!!!
Never ever had troubles with updates etc; not even Honeycomb OTA...
ICS? Is a mess....

But .. one tries to do something..

So I downloaded the manual update for my TF101; WW version and did an install once again! And ... I must say (did not backup anything before; no factory resets no nothing; just installed it OVER my existing non-functioning ICS) performance is way better now.. very smooth!

Will have to see what happens though..... if the TF stays shut off when I shut if off! If it'll NOT reboot without me 'doing it'.. etc...
So far.. so good...

Manual update you can download for your device at the 'Software tab' from the official asus website!
Goodluck!

Grtz!!

Anybody know if settings>about tablet>status>up time refers to time since last boot or time since unplugged?

Actually it doesn't matter since mine is showing 14:58:45 which would put it around 2:20 a.m and It was not plugged in last night and I wasn't awake, so the sucker rebooted without me knowing, but at least it didn't get stuck. That's something, right?

Interesting...I would never have thought of that. In light of the post from El Presidente (my favorite brandy btw) I'm gonna wait to see if Asus releases a patch

I believe you're correct. I put mine up this morning when I left for the office and left it with the screen saver app active at 35%. When I got home a few minutes ago the screen saver was still active, which indicates it didn't reboot, as that app doesn't start automatically. So the up time is like 9:45 which is quite surprising. Btw, the screen saver app is very useful

My TF 101 with updated to ICS is also did the same thing, reboots itself and locks up with the logo screen. It has happened 4 times so far, I did a hard boot, power & vol down, and it still occurred a few minutes ago.

I have an occasional problem with the power button not responding but the first unit I bought I returned because of constant power button problems. If it weren't for "restocking" fees and it being a Xmas present for my son, I would have exchanged it for an iPad.

So I finally got like 20 hours up time until it shut down on its own. In light of the Ipad3 release, Steve Jobs, wherever he is getting a last laugh.. There's something to be said for his maniacal desire to keep Apple products in a closed garden. The end result is that Apple's products just work.. Something to be said for that

Maybe Apple has some niggling items that cause issues, but I doubt that they would ever release an updated OS with this kind of widespread problem. Hasn't happened and I doubt it ever would.. At least while Jobs was around

So are we comparing Apple to Google or Apple to Asus? Pardon the pun but comparing Apple to Asus is like comparing Apples and Oranges.

Apple is a software and hardware manufacturer. Asus does primarily Hardware. Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world. Asus is not.

If you want to be tied to Apple so much so they tell you what to buy and where to get it and how often you can go to the bathroom, enjoy your Ipad.

Me? I will stick with the android platform so I can choose what manufacturer to buy from and where to get my apps from.

There are always going to be growing pains, but I will dry my tears with all the extra money I have saved by not buying into the Apple Ecosystem.
