Root [CDMA] Couple of questions about hboot 1.5

Hey everyone,

I had a couple of questions about hboot 1.5

I am new to the 3d (came from the 4g) so I was wondering when hboot 1.5 was put on the 3d?

Also I was wondering if anyone had been working on a root method?, (minus the htc route).

After looking into it more I really don't care about my phone having the "watermark" I just think its a hassle to flash roms and all that the way you have to with the htc method.

It's been that way for a little while now. Since the last few updates were put out. Same way it always goes pretty much once an exploit is found where we can run unrevoked or revolutionary they patch it as soon as they can. There is a group of guys on xda working on getting s-off. There's also a new workaround for 1.5 called HTC dumlock and then there is flash image GUI which saves you the hassle of fastbooting your kernel/boot img.

Thanks for the info. I really dont get htc, it kind of reminds me of what at&t is doing to their "unlimited" data customers...capping them at 2gb of 3g/4g speed then kicking them down to 2g speeds.

Same thing with htc..."we will unlock bootloaders".....but they make it a hassle to flash roms or do anything that a regular unlocked bootloader can do.

Yea well they probably figure if we give an unlock method that will allow to flash custom ROM from the same base maybe that would keep the consumer happy. And at the same time its saving them money on bricked devices that people fully rooted then unrooted when they messed it up. Not to mention HTC method not allowing you to flash radios it makes it pretty hard to brick the device. Imo HTC makes securities on the phones from the hackers finding thier flaws. Everytime it gets cracked they patch you would think eventually it will lead to newer devices having unlockable bootloaders.

Tell them you want full S-OFF bootloaders. I did. I also told them that users have problems with the current method (the unlocking method and then problems afterwards) and that they should look at the forums if they want more info, because there's a character limit in that email window.

Personally, I'm not buying another HTC unless I can get it so it's S-OFF. Either by HTC Dev making it so we can have S-OFF or the dev community hacking it to S-OFF. S-ON unlocked is a poor substitute. IMO.

Well I finally did use the htc unlock method, and I am currently running mikrunny. But I did use the link you provided and sent them the following message;

"I hope that you will offer an s-off option for rooters in the near future, I enjoy having my bootloader unlocked, but I feel like I am using an apple product with a tethered jailbreak. Whenever I want to flash a rom I have to connect to my computer."

WoW that sucks, I just got my 3D today and now I find out it will be a pain to root and install new ROMS.

I sent them a letter.

Can anyone give a link on how to root and install a new ROM? I am so use to how I could do it on the EVO 4G.

Yeah, I felt the same way. Had I done more research I probably would've just waited until there was a better way to root. But I am a flash addict so I just used the HTC method.

The HTC method really isnt that hard, there is a guide at the top of the main htc evo 3d root page on here. The biggest pain is that you are in the same boat as an apple product on a tethered jailbreak, meaning if you want to flash a mod/rom you have to connect your phone to your pc and use a cmd window to get to the recovery on your phone. Really makes it pain as I liked to mess with different roms when I have slow nights at work.

Just keep writing/tweeting to HTC DEV and let them know you thank them for the apple products.
